John
What does the Bible say about eternal life?

Eternal life is knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent (John 17:3).

The Bible teaches that eternal life is not merely existing forever but is found in knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ (John 17:3). This means establishing a personal relationship with God through faith in Christ. Jesus defines eternal life in this way to emphasize that salvation transcends human understanding and rests solely in knowing Him. In this context, Jesus reveals that it is not just about acknowledging God’s existence; it is about experiencing a transformative relationship that grants believers a share in His eternal life.

John 17:3

How do we know Christ's deity is true?

Christ's deity is affirmed by His authority over all flesh and as the only begotten Son of God (John 17:2-3).

The deity of Christ is established in Scripture where He is recognized not only as the Son of God but as God Himself (John 17:2-3). As Jesus raised His eyes to heaven to pray, He demonstrated His unique relationship with the Father, being the express image of God. This authority over all flesh and the power to grant eternal life underscores His divine nature. Historical doctrinal confessions within Reformed theology affirm that Jesus is fully God and fully man, making Him the perfect mediator between God and humanity. His works, teachings, and ultimately His resurrection provide irrefutable evidence of His divine identity.

John 17:2-3

Why is God's sovereignty important for Christians?

God's sovereignty assures Christians of His ultimate control and plan for redemption (Isaiah 43:13).

The sovereignty of God is a pivotal doctrine in Christian faith, emphasizing His absolute control over all creation and events (Isaiah 43:13). This means that nothing happens outside of God's will and purpose. For Christians, this truth provides immense comfort and hope. It means that our lives are governed by a divine plan that includes our salvation, trials, and growth in faith. Understanding God's sovereignty fosters confidence that He is working all things for our good and His glory, ensuring that our struggles are not in vain but serve a greater purpose under His providential care. Additionally, it encourages believers to submit to God's will, knowing He is sovereign over every aspect of life.

All right, let's go back to.
Gospel of John, chapter 17. John. Chapter 17. And let's read. Again, the first
three verses. John 17. First, three verses
is mostly what we will look at. These words. spake Jesus, and
lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is
come. Glorify thy Son, that thy Son
also may glorify thee. As thou hast given him power
over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many
as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that
they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom
thou hast sent." Someone rightly said of John chapters thirteen through
Sixteen greatest sermon ever preached. And followed by the greatest
prayer ever pray. This high priestly prayer of
the Lord Jesus Christ and that message he spoke to his. Disciples. And John thirteen
through sixteen. And here in John seventeen we
have this prayer. recorded for us, and I am so
thankful. And it says, beginning with verse
one, these words spake Jesus. These words are not mere words
of a man, for he was no mere man. These
are the words of God-man. These words are not up for debate
or argument These words you cannot take or leave. These words are
life and death. These words tell us in no uncertain
term what life eternal is. The Lord Jesus Christ, not man,
the Lord Jesus Christ says this is life eternal. This is what it means to be saved. I'm interested. Aren't you? These
words, our Lord said, shall never pass away. Heaven and earth shall,
but not my words, he said. And it says in verse one, he
lifted up his eyes to heaven. This man named Jesus lifted up
his eyes to heaven, looked into the face of God when he prayed. God whom scripture says Hebrews
twelve twenty nine is a consuming fire. God whom scripture says
no man can approach unto no man hath seen nor can see God that's
the God of the Bible this man looked into heaven into the face
of God. We the practice of bowing our
heads when we pray is biblically scriptural you look back through
the scriptures you'll see God's people bowing their head it's
a good practice also it's fitting that we bow our heads in humility
in unworthiness and in shame. Like the public and came in the
temple you remember that story don't you a Pharisee a man who
did God thought he did. Look steadfastly toward heaven
and God didn't hear a word he said. But the public and would
not so much as lift his eyes to heaven, the scripture says,
but smote on his breath. And we do well also to bow our
heads. But this man looked into the face of God,
who thought it not robbery to be equal with God. And he says
in verse one, Father, this is the only begotten. This is the only begotten, the
express image of God, the well-pleasing Son of God, of whom that's not
said of anyone else. He said, Father, the hour is
come. Glorify thy Son, that thy Son
also may glorify thee. Father, the hour is come, the
hour to which Christ was born into this world. In another place, he said, What
shall I say? Deliver me from this hour? No,
to this hour I came into the world. His finest hour, man's
darkest hour, but his finest hour. And if you're listening
carefully, this was when the sun was at its Zenith, at its
peak, His finest hour, Christ crucified,
when God would be glorified as never before, or since. God would be glorified in His
holiness. If you want to know something
of the holiness of God, look at the cross You want to know something of
the justice of God, God who will by no means clear the guilty,
look at the cross. God is glorified in his love. You want to know something about
love, here in his love. Greater love hath no man than
him. Mercy. Oh, mercy and truth are met together
here. Righteousness and peace kiss
each other here. God is glorified in his wisdom.
You want to know wisdom? This is the greatest stroke of
genius ever, how that God can be just, punish, kill, and yet
justify, make alive. God is glorified in his sovereign
mercy. It's of the Lord's mercies that
we're not concerned. and that mercy is seen in Christ
who was consigned. Mercy, love, grace in sending
his son to this earth to do what we could not do, glorify God. To live the life that God demands
of us. With man it's impossible, but
not this man. To die the death as punishment,
the wages that we've earned. this man paid that part. And
save, what he came to do was save some of these rotten rebels
from destruction. And because Christ did that,
he said, Father, glorify me. And God has glorified him, given
him, Scripture says, a name which is above every name, that it's
the name of Jesus. That's not what you call it.
But when you hear that name, what you call him is Lord. What you do is bow the knee and
you confess he's Lord to the glory of God the Father. And because Christ did that,
he not only gave him a name which is above every name, but Scripture
says God gave him all things. To this end, Christ both died,
buried, and rose again, that he might be Lord of the dead
and the living. That means the owner of all things. He said in verse two, Thou hast
given him power over all flesh, all authority. God gave Christ everything that
belonged to him. He earned it. This is his inheritance. God gave him all power, all glory,
all honor, all blessings, All life, all judgment, salvation,
belonged to him. It's in his hands, not ours. Him. And it says there in verse 2,
"...as thou hast given him Christ power over all flesh." How much
power? All power. He said that. One
of the last things he said before he left this earth in Matthew
28 was, All authority is given unto me in heaven and earth." All reign, all rule, the government
is upon his shoulder. The sovereignty is upon him,
the control of all things. He said, as the father judges,
the son judges. As the father can quicken whom
he will, so the son quickens whom he will. He said, I have
the keys in Revelation 1. He said, I have the keys of hell
and death, meaning I decide who goes there. All authority. And this, he said,
the Lord Jesus Christ, this is life eternal. This is what it
means to have this eternal life. It is to know, verse 3, He said,
this is life eternal that day. Who's going to know? Who are
they? What he said in verse two, as
many as the father gave him. As many as he gave life to. And this is life eternal. This
is salvation. This is what it means to be saved.
This is what it means to be a child of God. That they might know. Not so much what. But who. The only true God. And Jesus
Christ. Who he has sent. The only true
God. All right, let's look at this
for a few more minutes, OK? The only true God. The Lord is
saying here that there's only one God who is God. Though many may say so, though
millions upon millions may think such of a God, this God or that
God, he said there's only one who is truly God, true God, the
God of the Bible, the God who declares himself. See, it doesn't
matter what someone, some man says here. Let's look at what
God said about himself. Look at Isaiah chapter 57. We're just going to look at a
few passages of scripture. We would do well to do nothing
but read from here on out. This is how God reveals himself. No man knows God unless he reveals
himself. How does he do that? Well, it
pleased him by the foolishness of preaching. Not the preaching
of fools and not the preaching of foolishness, but what the
world calls foolishness. This preaching of the glorious
God declaring who he is. Let's look at a few passages
that declare God as he, how God describes himself. Okay. That's
all that matters, isn't it? Not what we think. The minute
we say, I think God is, I think this, I think that, we're wrong. There is a way that seemeth right
unto man. It's wrong. Our Lord, when he prayed, it
says he lifted up his eyes to heaven and called upon God. God is in
heaven. We're on the earth. Now, as we
begin to look at these scriptures and describe God, we're also
talking about Jesus Christ because he is God. God manifests in the
flesh without controversy. That's without controversy. But
when our Lord prayed, it says he lifted up his eyes to heaven
and said, Father, to heaven. God is in heaven. This is more
than just his location. This is to tell us just how high
above us he is. I don't mean just in size either.
I mean in his person, in his glory. Isaiah 57, look at verse 15. Thus saith the high and lofty
one that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is holy. I dwell in
the high and holy place. God, who inhabiteth eternity,
whom Scripture says, and I'm just quoting a few, whom the
heavens cannot contain, who sitteth, Scripture says, On the circle
of the earth. Whom scripture says esteems the
inhabitants of the earth as grasshoppers. Grasshoppers. That's what God
says. He says Lebanon is not sufficient
to burn. If you put them all in the scale
of God's justice and value and worth, said they're lighter than
the dust. Nothing. We're talking about God who is
not like us. That's what I'm trying to say.
He is not like us. He is so infinitely higher above
us in every way imaginable and more. He's not like us. What does that say of all the
descriptions that man uses to describe the incomparable God? Look back at Isaiah 45. What does that say of all these
foolish things that man tries to compare God with? God is like
Hallmark cards. God is like Coke. God is like
your mother. God is like what? All that tells
me is they don't know God. Look at this. Here's what God
says in Isaiah forty five. Look at verse I'm sorry Isaiah
forty six verse five Isaiah forty six. Just read with me. The incomparable
God by verse five Isaiah forty six. To whom will you liken me? And make me equal. Compare me. Whom will you compare me that
we may be like? He says, they try, verse 6, they
lavish gold out of the bag and waste silver in the ballots and
hire a goldsmith and he makes it a little god and they fall
down and gay they worship. But that's a man-made god. And they bear him on their shoulders.
You see, he can't do anything but what they let him do. That's
a man-made god. They have to carry him around
from place to place. And one verse seven says cries
unto him yet he can answer he can't say he's a god that can't
say a god you must let do something he can't save you. He's no god
at all. Read on verse nine remember the
former things of old just look back. Read I am God. And there is none else. I am
God. There is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, things that are not yet done. Saying, my counsel shall stand. I will do what They said to David in Psalm 15,
here's our God. He does what we let him do. Here's
our God. He can only be God if we let
him be God. What about your God, David? What does he do? He said
he's in the heavens. And he hath done whatsoever he
hath pleased. That's the true God. What does this do? If God is
pleased, he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to reveal himself
to worms and grasshoppers. I walk through my yard and some
grasshoppers say, you have no right. Who do you think you are?
Do I have to stop what I'm doing and try to make them understand
who I am? It would be great mercy if I
did. why they deserve to be stepped
on. But God see here's another way
he's not like us. His mercy is higher than the
heavens on you. He reveals himself it would be
great mercy if God spared one of these rebellious worms or
grasshoppers but he's he's spared a number which no man can know
he's gone but no man can know. Let me describe unto you by the
word of God who God is. He just said, I'm incomparable.
You can't compare me to anybody or anything. I'm God. There's nothing else. God is, first of all, our creator. Now, stay with me. This is where you begin. Isaiah
45, go over there and You know, when God wrote this book, what
were the first words out of his mouth? When God wrote this book
to declare who he is, what were the first words out of his mouth
written? In the beginning, God created. Now, if we would stop, if God
would give us A man. And an understanding that we
might know him that is true. We would understand that to be
creator means. He owns it. He owns it he made
it. Have you ever made anything.
From scratch. Did you just say well I'm going
to I don't know what I'm going to do I'm going to make something
just start trying or did you have a purpose. Did you have
a blueprint. Plan all of that. God says I purposed all things.
Made a covenant ordered in all things. All things. My counsel he said. God is our
Creator Isaiah forty five verse five I am the Lord there is none
else. He keeps saying that there is
no God beside me. I girded thee clothed you though
thou hast not known me that they may know from the rising of the
sun and from the way that there is none beside me. I am the Lord
there is none else there is no one in charge of anything. That's
what he's saying it. Keep saying that. Seven, I form the light and create
darkness. I make peace and create evil.
I, the Lord, do all this. Say, I don't understand. It doesn't
matter. No, you can't understand God.
I can't understand God. We're not called on to understand
God. If we could understand God, He'd be like us. Charles Spurgeon
said, I don't want a God I can understand. That means He's just
like me. I need someone I can understand whose ways are past
finding out. Scripture says. And God giveth
not an account of his matters to any man. Scripture says. He
doesn't have to. That's what makes him God. I don't want to preach this with
a frown on my face. This is the believers peace and comfort and
joy and and that hell or come hell or high water. Satan's not
God. Man's not God. Man's not ruling. Man's not reigning. It doesn't
matter who's in the office up there. God put them there. Be
it Ahab and his wife Jezebel or Josiah. It doesn't matter.
God reigns. Say unto my people, he said,
for their comfort. Comfort ye my people. Tell them
I reign. Not a figurehead. I reign and
I rule among the armies of heaven, among the inhabitants of the
earth, and none can stay my hand." Aren't you glad? God's people
are glad. This is life eternal. This is
how you can live in this world and not be afraid of it. He's our Creator. Look at verse
12 of Isaiah 45. created man upon it. I, even
my hand, have stretched out to heaven, and all their hosts,
and have commanded." What does that say about what man says
that God cannot do? Man is an utter, complete, ignorant
fool. The God who made the heavens
with his fingers. Heavens declared it to God. And yet man in all his utter
ignorance says, God cannot, there's something he cannot do. To be
creator means he owns us. And he said himself, cannot I
do with my own what I will? Didn't he? If you made something,
you own it. And didn't he say in in this
same chapter. Look at it. Verse 9. Do not take
my word for it. Verse 9 says, Woe unto him that
striveth with his maker. Let the pot-shirred strive with
the pot-shirred of the earth. But shall the clay say to him
that fashioneth it, What makest thou of thy work? He hath no
hands. God hath no hands but your hands. He hath no hands. I'll tell you
what the Scripture says. of mankind. What Daniel said
to old Nebuchadnezzar, God says to all mankind, that God in whose
hands your breath is and all your ways, thou hast
not glorified. As what? As God. That's what Romans 1 says. They
weren't thankful, neither glorified him as God, neither were thankful,
so God gave to a reprobate man a man void of judgment and they
create all sorts of imaginations of God and the first one is he's
like a man. He's like a. Just like a no he's
not God said in Psalm fifty thou thoughtest I was altogether such
a one of yourself. God needs nothing wants nothing
needs nothing for man to be God means he's independent of anything
or anyone. Not depending on anyone. To be
God means everything depends on Him. He said, if I were hungry,
I wouldn't tell you. I created the cattle. God doesn't
need our pot pies, baked sales. He said, if I needed money, I
wouldn't tell you. All the gold and all the silver
in the mines are mine. Wouldn't tell you. What kind
of God do you got anyway? What kind of God do men have
anyway? Scripture says in Psalm 24, the
earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and the inhabitants
thereof. I own it. He said, I own it all. That is the true God. God is immutable, unchanging. If something changes, it either
changes for the worse or the better. That's the reason He
changed. God doesn't change. He said,
I am the Lord, I change not, Malachi 3 said. I change not. Being absolutely perfect in wisdom
and power and holiness, he need not change. His decrees are unalterable. His will, his purposes are set.
His covenant is ordered in all things and sure. And he won't
change it. And to the sinner, who's in Christ,
that's the best news he's ever heard. He said, I am the Lord.
I change not. Therefore, you sons of Jacob,
he said, I'm the God of Jacob. Happy is he that hath the God
of Jacob. Therefore, you sons of Jacob, changing, fickle, finite,
failing, fallible, sinful creatures that you are. Worm, fear not
thou worm, Jacob. I change not. And I have loved
you with an everlasting love and I will not change it. There's
nobody in hell whom God loves. God's love cannot fail. God's
love is unchanging. God's purpose is unchanging.
God's will is unchanging. God changeth not. This is the
truth. God is holy. He is so holy that no man knows
even how to describe what holiness is. Except how he described it. He
said, I dwell in light which no man can approach unto. Charges his angels with folly.
The heavens are not pure in his sight. The angels in heaven,
the holy angels, it says, cover their sight. We sang it. We just
sang it. All veiling their sight. The
holy angels cover their eyes from the face of him and cry
day and night, holy, holy, holy. This is God's chief attribute.
This is God of the Bible, immaculately, unchangeably holy. If the angels
cover their faces, what does that say about the impudence
of man and his pride and his familiarity with God as if he
were just a man? It says he doesn't know him. Here is the beginning of wisdom.
God said, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And
it never leaves his people. They always fear him. God is sovereign. I've already
been saying that. We've already been looking at
that. Sovereign. This is what makes God, God.
This is what makes God, God and Satan not. This is what makes
God, God and us not. us man. God will do exactly what
he will do. God has done exactly what he
will do and ever shall. He is in absolute control of
all people and all things and all events. God said in Isaiah 43, 13, I
will work and who will let it. This is the true God. And as
we said, this knowledge, this understanding of what little
we have, this faith, let's put it that way, to know and believe
God is a gift from God, whom he gives it to, whom he will. God is love, but it's not like
they say it is today, love him and leave him. Whoever he loves,
he saves. He has power. And if he loves, you're loved. For ever I have loved thee with
an everlasting love. Therefore, with loving kindness have I drawn
thee. Savior. God saves whom he loves. God's mercy. God is merciful,
full of mercy. Thank God. And whoever he shows
mercy to scripture says it's for ever. Aren't you glad? Gracious God of all grace. What
do we have that we have not received by the grace of God? We are what
we are. Have what we have. Know what
we know. Faith. Repentance. Whatever it is. Material
things. Especially spiritual things.
All things come from above. A man can receive nothing except
it what? Be given him. grace. And here's the chief, here's the chief thing, how we
may know this God. Verse, in our text, he says,
this is life eternal that they might know thee the only true
God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. We wouldn't really know God unless
Christ came. We wouldn't know that God was
love, truly love and merciful and gracious had not Christ come. We would know that God would
receive us and accept us had not Christ come. He sent Christ. It says the sent
one. This is life eternal that they
might know that Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. If you send
somebody somewhere that means you have something in mind and
a place in mind to send them. Jesus Christ was sent to this
earth with a covenant to fulfill, with a purpose to fulfill, God's
purpose, called the everlasting covenant, ordered in all things. Come down here, Christ was sent
down here to glorify God as a man, not to show us how, though he
did, but he did it for his people as a substitute. to fulfill all
righteousness on their behalf. Not him and them, him. The work
that he was sent to do was to establish this everlasting righteousness
and charge it to their account so that God would receive them,
accept them, justify, consider them holy, unblameable, and unreprovable
in God's sight. not for what they did, not by
works of righteousness we had done, but for works of righteousness
which Jesus Christ did. You see? Some of you do. This
is the work. And he was sent to pay the penalty
of their sins, which was death. The soul that sinneth must surely
die. Isaiah 53 said God made his soul an offering for sin,
not an offering to man to accept or reject. No, sir. God made
this. Christ made this offering to
God on behalf of his people and everyone for whom Jesus Christ
died, God Almighty justifies them from all things. Their sins
are gone and will never have to pay for. Isn't that good news?
If you trust Christ, it is. He said, I've finished the work.
Verse four, I have finished the work thou gavest me to do. The
last words on Calvary tree were this, it's is finished. Just like God in Genesis finished
the work, there's nothing more to be done. It's done. Rest. God, Christ, God manifest in
the flesh said it again. It's finished. The work of salvation
is finished. And he sends the Holy Spirit
to round them all up. How? Not asking, not begging,
not pleading, not bribing, just declaring. Just declaring this
God, this Christ, this gospel. He said, watch me bring them. You'll know, this is how you'll
know the excellency of the powers of God and not of man. Just declare
who I am and I'll bring them. He said, I finished the work.
God Almighty chose a people Scripture says throughout the word he chose
a people verse six says and they were and now gave us them. God
Almighty chose a people the foundation of God stand assure having this
seal the Lord know of them that are here. How does he know for
whom he did for know he did predestinate whom he did predestinate he called whom he called, he justified.
Whom he justified, he glorified. And he gave these people whom
he chose to Christ to come to this earth and save them. And
in verse 12, Christ said, none of them is lost. Don't call his
name Jesus if he loses one sheep. Don't call his name Savior if
he loses anybody for somebody he cannot save. He's not a good
Savior, is he? call his name Jesus. God said,
why? For he shall save, who? His people. Who are they? Those
that God gave him from their sin. And he manifests God to us. Verse six, I manifested them
unto the people, the men, which thou gavest me out of the world.
Verse eight he said I've given them the word which thou hast
given me and they have received them. What do you think about
everything that's been preached this morning? If you'll go back
and listen to it I think you'll find that at least forty percent
is reading or quoting scripture. What do you think about it? What
do you think of these things? This is the word of God. This
is how God declares himself and his son. What do you think? What
think you of Christ? Christ said, I've given them
to the men you gave me. I've given the words to them
and they've received them. And he said, the world hates
them. If you believe the truth, you believe the true God and
the true Christ, the world will hate you. They'll call you a
liar. They'll call it doctrines of devil. But rejoice, so they persecuted
the prophets before him. Our Lord said, Rejoice when men
say all manner of evil falsely against you, for my name's sake,
my glory's sake, my work's sake, my power's sake, my authority's
sake. Rejoice. They hated me. He said, They'll
hate you. It's a good sign. I've given them thy word, and
they've received it. This is the true God. and eternal life. This is how
John finishes his epistle in 1 John. Let me just read it to
you. John said in 1 John 5, verse 20, And we know that the Son
of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we
might know him that is true. And we are in him that is true.
How do you know you're in him? Do you know this God? Do you
believe this God? Do you rejoice in this God? This
God. Not another. This God. True God. Do you love this God? Or are
you like that person said, people have said to me and others, I
hate your God. He has given us an understanding
that we might know him that is true, the true God, the only
true God, and we're in him that is true. That's how you may know.
Even in his son, Jesus Christ. How may you know you're in Jesus
Christ? All your hope of salvation. I mean all of it. I don't mean
some of it. I mean all of it. Your only hope
to stand before this holy God someday, be accepted, for God
to allow you into his kingdom, your only hope is not your repentance,
not your baptism, not your consecration, not your dedication, not your
church attendance, not your works, not anything that has to do with
you. It's everything to do with him.
Is Jesus Christ all to you? I mean A-double-L. all your hope,
is it? And you're in him. That is true. This is, John says, the true
God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourself
from idols. Idols. Let the world pray to a God that
can't save. Don't join them. This is the truth. This is the
God you believe. Van Ogles is the God you believe.
Christ you believe. Ed Berry is the God you believe. You didn't always, did you? Vicki
Patton is the God you believe. Christ you believe. Juanita Baldwin
is the Christ you believe. Scott Stanley is the God you believe. There
is no other. This is Christ, the gospel. You want to confess him in baptism
this morning? The Lord said, Go into all the
world and preach the gospel. Come here, Scott. The Lord said,
Go into all the world and preach the gospel, this gospel. There is no other. He said, He that believeth, not
just the head, but with the heart, man believeth, and is baptized
shall be saved. Baptism is commanded by the Lord. The Lord said that. The Lord
Jesus Christ is the one who commanded it. Not an option. Unless one like the thief on
the cross is physically unable. We are commanded to do so. There
is no saving power in getting in this pool. It has absolutely
nothing to do with your salvation. Nothing. It has no changing power. You're
going to be the same person when you come out, you're going to
be the same person that went in. It's just water. That's what
John said, and I just baptized with water. It's symbolic. Baptism is a symbol. There are
only two symbols which the Lord Jesus Christ gave us to observe.
Only two. The wearing of crosses and all
this other stuff, paraphernalia, is graven images. The Lord said
don't do that. But he said these two things
observe. And these are things these are
symbols you can't wear. Baptism and the Lord's table. But they're symbolic that's all
they are the symbolic these things show our Lord says all you do
these things the Lord's table you do show. Symbolically the
death of the Lord Jesus Christ until he come and baptism is
is a symbol of the death burial and resurrection of the Lord
Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism
is a public confession. This is how the Lord said to
publicly stand before all men and women and confess him. This
is it. The public confession of Jesus
Christ and this is what we say when we get in this pool to be
baptized. in the water, and baptism is
not sprinkling, and you don't do it to infants. He that believeth
in is baptized. Here's what we are saying when
we get into this pool to confess Christ. I believe this Jesus
Christ, the Christ of Scripture, that he is indeed the Christ,
God manifest in the flesh. And I confess him for all men
that he is my sovereign Lord and master, my salvation, my
substitute, my mediator, my intercessor, my daismon, my redeemer, my all
and in all. I confess his person. I confess
his work as all my salvation. I confess I am a sinner and nothing
but a sinner. I'm very. And when he rose. I was quickened
with him. And now I walk by faith and by
the grace of God. Peter called baptism the answer
of a good conscience. That's all it is. Christ said,
confess me in baptism. A good conscience says, OK. Most every believer in this room
and Let me say this in closing. Most every believer in this room
grew up in religion and was baptized early on. I would ask for a show
of hands, it would shock you how many. They were baptized,
grew up in religion, were baptized early as a mere ritual, not knowing,
not knowing what you were doing, not knowing the true God. Most
everyone in here believed a God who was not God. believed the
Christ who didn't finish the work, and you confessed another Jesus,
didn't you? But in God's good time, he revealed the true God to you. He revealed the true Christ to
you, and you had to confess him. You had to. Every time someone
does this, I want to do it over again myself. I want to tell
them now you baptize me. It's a great privilege. This
is the true God. And this is eternal life. True
Christ. All right. And this morning,
Brother Scott Stanley comes to confess this God and this Christ
in Believer's Baptism. All right, Brother Gabe. Let's turn to hymn number 497. Stand again. 497. When I can read my title clear
to mansions in the sky, I'll bid farewell to every fear and
wipe my weeping eyes. And wipe my weeping eyes And
wipe my weeping eyes I'll bid farewell to every fear And wipe
my weeping eyes Should earth against my soul engage in fiery
darts be heard Then I can smile at Satan's rage and face the
crowning world And face the frowning world And face the frowning world
Then I can smile at Satan's reign And face the frowning world Let
tears like a wild baby's come and go Oh, may I but safely reach my
home, my God, my heaven, my all. My God, my heaven, my all. my God, my heaven, my all. May I but safely return home,
my God, my heaven, my all. There shall I bathe my weary
soul in seas of heavenly rest, And not a wave of trouble roll
across my peaceful rest. across my peaceful breast, across
my peaceful breast, and not awake a trouble roll across my peaceful
breast. I don't put anybody on the spot. I know how difficult it is to
say anything. Preaching the gospel is our confessional duty. And you
give your assent by saying amen. but your love and your belief
of the truth, I say amen. And Scott and I talked, and he
said to me that this is what the Christ in whom the gospel
is believed. And I think this is what we want to say. And you rejoice
to receive Brother Scott. and to the membership of this
church, rejoice in what God has done for you. I say amen. Amen. Scott Stanley, in obedience to
the divine command of Christ Jesus, my Lord and our Lord. And upon your confession of faith
in Him, I baptize you, my brother, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Ghost. Amen. Hi, I'm Brother John Bakers,
would you please dismiss us in prayer. But we can't go to the top line,
right? Because we're looking for problems. And we're looking for a solution. And we can't defend the work
that we're doing. We've done all that. and doctors, and all of us are
good doctors. Thank you for encouraging me
to be able to go in. There's always the evidence to
prove that. Thank you for the blood and blood. So we pray to God that this day
may be a gift to you, to give you the power of faith,
to believe, to do good, and God bless you. God bless you. God bless you. God bless you. God bless you. So I'm happy to be here at this time. But we may as well say that we get off the hook and
continue to get to business. you
