of the Savior's love, that heaven
and earth may behold Him. OK, go back to go to Matthew
9. Matthew chapter 9. As I said, we read. Mark's account,
because it's more detailed. And this is recorded three times
in the scriptures, Matthew, Mark and Luke. And. I went back. Thinking that we had looked at
this not too long ago and in fact we looked at this two years
ago to this very date the November second of three. And. This is a blessed story
or stories the two stories here as you. Read with me two stories
they're intertwined take place together. The Stories of a dead
child being raised and a woman with an issue of blood being
healed both of these like every other story is a picture or a
type of salvation. Because all of us until the Lord
raises us up quickens up we're dead in trespasses and sin our
children are dead. until the Lord raises them up
and all of us have an issue. It's in our blood. It's called
sin. And unless the Lord removes it,
we'll die from it. Can the Lord do both of these
at the same time? Can he handle two cases at the
same time? Oh yes, most certainly. read Matthew nine Matthew's account
versus eighteen and nineteen. Says well he spoke these things
unto them behold there came a certain ruler. And worshipped him. Saying my daughter is even now
dead or at the point of death almost dead. But come and lay
thy hand upon her. And she shall live. And Jesus
arose and followed him. And so did his disciple. It is a certain man. Once again,
a certain man. Came and worshiped the Lord,
it says. The first thing he did, does
that sound familiar? The first thing he did before
he asked any favors of the Lord. He came and worshipped him. In Mark's account that we read,
it says he fell at his feet. He prostrated himself at his
feet. Worshipped him. And so it is
with everyone who truly sees the Lord. Everyone who sees the
Lord Jesus Christ, the true Christ, before any favours, before they
ask anything. They don't presume upon him when
they see who he is. They worship him. And before
salvation, actually this is the beginning of salvation, fear,
the fear of the Lord. That's why this man, this man
was a ruler, some kind of a Jewish ruler, maybe a Pharisee or something. He was some kind of a man of
authority, wasn't he? In the synagogue he was a man
that people looked up to he was somebody in religion. But when
he heard of Christ when he came to Christ when he saw Christ
he was a nobody in his own eye and he fell at the feet of one
much higher than himself. So the fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom. He came and did reverence and
worshiped him. Now this man had a great need. He got a great need. Those of you with daughters or children might enter
into this. His daughter was nearly dead,
and he had a great need. And he came to the woman, the
only woman that could meet that need. And you know, I thought
about this, and we've looked, we've seen in our study of the
Gospels every single person that came to the Lord and worshiped
him and begged him, pleaded with him to meet their needs, he met
their needs. Every single one. And the scripture says he's the
same Yesterday, we were reading all
these stories. The leper came down and worshipped
him. What do you need? I want to be clean. So be it.
A blind man came. What do you need? I want to see.
See. Deaf man, dumb man. He's the same yesterday, today,
today. It's the same Lord Jesus Christ. Today is the day of salvation. Today, if you hear his voice,
harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and forever. We're going to need him tomorrow. We're going to need him a month
from now, years from now. In our old age, we're going to
need him, especially need him then. He's the same. That's why
Peter said to come. To keep coming. And we'll find
that he hears. And that he will meet our needs.
He will meet our needs. Anybody in here have a dead son
or daughter? I mean dead and trespassing sins. What about a dead spouse or parents? The only one that can raise them. He's in the raising business. I'm quite sure well I know for
a fact that my parents pleaded for me. They're looking at someone who
was dead. I mean as a young man. No less so than Jerry's. And
trespassing. And I know for a fact that my
parents believe it and believe it and believe it. Did the Lord
hear them? He heard somebody. I believe he raised me. And others. What about you all? What about you all? Well, it
says in verse 19, or verse 18, he said, My daughter is even
now dead. But this man believed that if
Christ was just That's all it would take, or you just lay hold
on her. There's only one that can raise
her, and all you've got to do is touch her. Just lay hold on
her. Lay your hand on her, and she
shall live. Not might live, but she shall
live. And it says in verse 19, he arose,
the Lord arose and followed him and his disciples also. you wrote about it so there is
hope for it. He. He came to the Lord. And fell at his feet and begged
him to come home with him and touch his own daughter. And the
Lord's come. The Lord's come the Lord doesn't
say anything here but he's got. And he's hopeful there is hope.
That something going to. The Lord's going to do something
for his daughter. But, in Mark's account, it says,
much people thronged the Lord. In other words, this great crowd
of people just swarmed him. And in this crowd, in this throng
of people, Jarius lost sight of the Lord. The Lord was right
behind him. He's leading the way to his house,
as if the Lord needed But he's leading the way and the Lord
was right behind him and he start walking in this crowd of people
presses in and he turns around he can't see the Lord anymore.
He's gone. You understand the significance
of that? We have people that we know and love who are dead
and we plead for them and it looks like the Lord is going
to do something. Opportunity seems to present
itself. They hear the gospel. They might
come to service with you or something. And or they listen to you speak
to them about the gospel. It seemed a little hopeful. They
might listen to you or whatever. And so you hold that hope that
maybe the Lord's going to do something. And it is done. You lose hope. Jarrett's lost
hope. He thought, oh no. He's not coming. He's not coming. Just hold out
hope, Jairus. While there's breath, there's
hope. While there's life, there's hope. While there's a Lord, there's
hope. And much people thronged him. And it appeared the Lord
was sidetracked somehow. It appeared that the Lord was
purposed to go with Jairus, but somehow he was sidetracked. Oh no, no, no, no. Whatever the
Lord purposes, he will do. He will carry it out. You can't
prevent him from doing his will. No crowd is going to keep him
from his destination. He's coming, but in his time. The Lord works in his own time.
And we've got to remember that there may be other pressing matters. There may be other people. with
more urgent cases. Somebody else with the need before
he does something for one of our own. And it's not selfish
necessarily to want the salvation of one of our loved ones. It's
love. It's love. But I would say this,
that if we could be just as concerned And just as joyful when the Lord does something
for someone else as one of our own. I pretty much think, at
least that's the way he is in the scripture, that the Lord
does something for us. But, you know, can we rejoice
in the Lord doing something for someone else's child and not
our own? Nobody deserves it. Nobody. And the Lord waits. He always
waits for his greater glory. Always. Whenever the Lord waits,
it's always that he might receive greater glory. As in the case
of Lazarus, remember, the Lord waited. He waited four days so
that everybody would know beyond a shadow of a doubt. He's dead. He's so dead he stinks. Now, who can do anything for
a stinking dead man? Anybody? Nobody. And the Lord
steps up. And he waited for this girl,
for it to be obvious that she's dead. She's dead. And he waits,
so he waits for his greater glory and he waited for this man's
patience. Let patience, remember this,
let patience have a perfect work. The Lord in due time, he works
in due time, in his own time. Scripture, not scripture, but
there's an old saying that the Lord's providence, the wheels
of the Lord's sovereign providence move slowly. The hands of the big old clock.
The workings inside of the big old clock. You really can't see
them moving. They're moving. All on time. God is not a creature
of time like we are. We want everything now. And if
something isn't done now, we get worried. We get worried.
Well, the Lord waited for this man to pay, and behold, verse
20, a woman Mark's Gospel says a certain. A certain woman. With which was disease with an
issue of blood twelve years a certain woman. There are no chance meetings
with our Lord our Lord never met anybody by chance it was
all on purpose. People say that don't mean all
men deserve a chance to be saved. A couple problems with that. nobody deserves the fact. And number two salvation is not
a chance. Salvation is on purpose and it's to the unworthy, to
the guilty. But there are no chance meetings
with the Lord. has he had that he is a very good Chapman said
on purpose of a very young part of your every another very. Well
it was on purpose. Is that it is on purpose to bring
you back. He had a certain woman at a whale.
Come to a whale a certain time certain whale certain woman because
everyone the Lord crosses and we have been foreknown by him. predestinated and everyone he
predestinated he will call and everyone he calls and you repeat
the rest of it he justified and everyone he justified he glorified
he glorified make some hope says this woman had this issue of
blood twelve years twelve years disease with this issue of blood
a dying woman What it was was her flow of blood would not stop. And she had this issue. It was
in her blood. It was on the inside. And she's
dying from it. Same with all of us. We have
this issue within us. It's in our blood. We're born
with it. And we'll die from it unless the Lord does something
for us. It's called sin. It's called sin unless the Lord
stops us. Unless he stops us in our wild career, unless he
puts an end to us, crucifies us, and our sins in Christ, we'll
die. We'll die. And that's the issue.
That's the issue. Mark's gospel said this woman
tried many positions. So she tried many positions.
And as you've heard this so many times before, But that's a picture
of how people try religion. People are church lookers, you
know, looking for, they say that we're looking for a church and
they hop here, church hoppers hop here and they're looking
for a place to go for whatever reason. And they hear from different
preachers and so forth, try many positions. And Mark's gospel
says she's spent all she had. She spent everything. She gave
her all. And there are many sincere people
in religion. Many sincere people. They give their all. They join
some place, and the crooked preacher puts them to work, thinking if
he can just keep them busy, keep them occupied, it will keep them
happy. spot on some board or committee or something. Keep
them busy. She spent all, all her time and certainly all her
money. Preachers saw, these poor physicians
saw to it that she spent her money on them and all her effort.
And Mark's Gospel says that she was nothing better, nothing better. Nothing better in no way, shape,
form or fashion was she any better. at all, but it says she was only
worse. Religion won't make you better,
it'll make you worse. It says she grew worse. Our Lord
one time said, if the light that is in you be darkness, how great
is the darkness. How great is the darkness. And
she grew worse. As many in religion do, they
only become, not only were they sinners, Now they're self-righteous
sinners. That's a hard case. Well, it
says, Mark's gospel says, when she heard of Jesus, she had heard
from somebody or somewhere, she heard the story of the Lord Jesus
Christ. Somebody told her, or she overheard
it from somebody, of this one who heals all who have need of
healing. Remember that? The Lord healed
everyone that came to him in one place, all that had need
of healing. She heard about this. The one
who heals every issue, if you can just come to this one great
physician, he will take care of every issue, blindness, deafness, Now, everybody else that she
went to was trying to tell her what to do. Anybody, does that
sound familiar to any of you, trying to tell her what to do?
And if you'll do this, old brother Jack Shanks, you remember hearing
those doctors that he kept listening, that people go to, Dr. you be baptized. Dr. you be baptized. Dr. F, you quit that. If you quit
that, it'd be Dr. join a church. And then on and
on he went with that. You know, that's comical, but
it's true. It's true. All these other physicians
kept telling her, you do this, you do that, you take this, you
take that, try this, try that. And it's no different today.
People try, I see it everywhere, don't you? Try Jesus. Try this,
you do this, you do that. That's God. Somebody told her, you just need
to come to Christ. You just need to get to the Lord
Jesus Christ. Come to him, look to him, he's the only one you
need. Don't do anything, just get to him. Well, she did. It says in verse 20, in Matthew's
gospel, in verse 20, it says she came behind him. She's unworthy,
see? She doesn't come, she doesn't
feel worthy to come up to him face to face. She's a shame. She doesn't feel worthy, and
she's thinking within herself, he doesn't need me. This is the
great Lord and Master. This is the cry, he doesn't need
me, she's thinking within herself, and he might not see me. She's thinking within herself,
he might He might not hear me, and he might not stop for me.
He doesn't have to. But I'm going to do what I can
do. I'm going to lay hold of him. Sink or swim, the old saying
is. I go to him. It says in verse 20, she came
behind him and touched the hem of his garment. Reached out. We sing that song. And. Reach out. As he's passing by. You'll find. Center he's not to. Hear your heart cry he's passing
by this moment. Your needs to supply. Who's that
about. And by for me. Reaching. and touch the Lord. The only
people the Lord stopped for were blind people, women with issues
of blood. But He stopped. She reached out,
and what was that garment? What do you think that represents,
that garment that she touched? Christ's righteousness, which
she so desperately needed. That's what we need. That's sinners
we need to cover up with His robe. Spread your skirt upon
me, Ruth said to Boaz, spread your skirt on me, I'm naked,
I'm your handmaiden. And she reached out to touch
the hem of his garment, for she said within herself, verse 21,
this is self-confession. See, a person's not going to
come to Christ until they come to themselves. Like the prodigal son. He didn't
see his need of a father and mercy and so forth. until he
saw himself in that. And the Lord was the one that
brought him to himself to see himself what a mess he was in
what a worthless hopeless no good sorry thoughtless thankless. Good for nothing. Damn the dead
and dying son he was that's what the Lord brought him to say came
to himself like this one she said within herself. She said
within herself, if I may but touch his garment, she saw who
Christ was, saw his sufficiency, saw his ability, and saw her
need, and said within herself, I've got to get to him. I've got to get to him. If I
do, I'll be whole. I'll be whole. Look at verse
22. And she did, she touched him.
Mark's Gospel says that she touched him and it says straight away,
immediately, the fountain of her blood dried up. And it says
that she felt in her body that she'd been healed. Now, here's
a good point. I need to bring this up. Mark's
Gospel says she felt that she'd been healed. But you don't wait
for a feeling to come to Christ. Don't wait for a feeling. Well,
I wait when I feel sinful enough, or I wait when I feel like I have enough faith, or
I wait when I... Oh, no, no. You come as you are. You come, just come. And when
you do, then you'll make me feel His touch, then the virtue. And it says in verse 22, Jesus
turned him about and when he saw her. And again, Mark's gospel. Mark's
gospel said virtue, the Lord knowing that virtue went out
of him. See, what was it that healed
this woman? What was it that dried up her issue? What was
it that removed her problem? What was it? Was it her faith
really? Was it her coming to him? It
was the virtue that came out of the Lord Jesus Christ. And
we're saved by virtue of the Lord Jesus Christ's blood shed
for us and righteousness charged us. That's how we're saved. We're
saved by virtue of him. Virtue is power. We're saved
by his power, by his sovereign power. That's how we're saying,
but it says here, he saw her, he turned and looked upon her.
He looked upon her with great mercy, great grace, great love,
pity and compassion. And he spoke to her. He didn't
say anything to old Jairus while he was gone. But he did this woman. And the
Lord doesn't have to answer our prayers, does he? You'll get
great comfort if you just if we will get great comfort if
we just come to realize that the Lord hears us. It doesn't have to answer. He says he hears. He says he
hears his people. But he spoke to her. And look
at what he said. When he saw her, he spoke. He
said, daughter, Does that sound familiar? Huh?
It's the same Lord. Said to another man earlier on,
son. Who is this? He's only 30 years
old. No, this is the mighty God. This is the everlasting Father.
Speaking to one of his daughters. Psalm 47 said, Let Zion rejoice,
and let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of his judgment,
because of his merciful dealing with the daughters of Jerusalem.
Daughter, be of good comfort. Be of good comfort. Thy faith
hath made thee whole. Whole, complete. That's what
that means. Is Jesus Christ all we need? To get to God, to get to glory,
to have life, is Jesus Christ all we need? We need something
better. Is there something better? Is there something else? Is there
a second baptism or something like that we need? He said to
her, this woman who came to him and him alone, this woman who
laid hold of him and him alone, he said to her, you're whole.
You need nothing else. When you're whole, you don't
need anything else. I'll tell you who Christ is all
to, those to whom Christ is all to. I'll tell you those who are
complete in him, those who are happy, those who are satisfied.
People are looking for all sorts of things, aren't they? Well,
they evidently haven't come to the Lord Jesus Christ. They haven't
heard of him. They haven't heard his blessed
voice say to them, daughter, you're complete in me. You're
whole. But all who have, they find great
comfort in that. This is their source of comfort.
that they are complete in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith? What is faith? It's coming to
Christ. That's what it is. It's in a
person. And the woman was made whole from that hour. When is
a person made holy before God? When is a person? That moment. That moment. It's a new birth, scripture said,
a new creation that never existed before, a new creature in Christ
Jesus, Quicken. What does Quicken mean? Raised
from the dead. Brought up from darkness unto
light. And that happens now. That happens now. And while it's
a mystery that no one of us can really explain, it's the truth. Twenty twenty three says the
Lord when he came to the ruler's house now right before this in
Mark's Gospel. It says that somebody came to
Jairus. And said to him. Your daughter's dead. She's hopeless
now. So there's no sense in troubling
the master. Don't bother. Your daughter's dead. There's
no hope for her. Just forget it. Go on home. There's nothing
can be done for her. And Jairus thought, I know he
thought, I knew it. It's too late. No, it's not. It's not too late. Look at verse 23. It's never
too late. It says when Jesus came to the
ruler's house, he came, he found his way. Though he was strong,
he found his way. And he came to the ruler's house
and he saw the minstrels and the people making the noise.
Kind of like a charismatic meeting or something going on. At any
rate, there was a great morning is what it was. Great morning
over this lost daughter. No hope, everybody mourning,
weeping as those sorrowing as those who have no hope. And people, we sorrow. Now I'm
talking now about our children who are dead and trespassed in
sin, no matter how old they are. We sorrow for them. This is why
we want the Lord to lay hold of them in their early days.
Remember that I created the days of value for the evil days come.
And Lord had mercy on some of our young people at an early
age, but we've got we've got quite a few more concerned about
the world gets a hold of. Get out there in. And we sorrow, but not as those
who have no hope. not as those who have no hope. I can only tell you what the
Lord has done for me. I'm a pretty good example of
that. I heard the gospel all the years
I was growing up. What is the word of God called? It's called the power of God.
It's called the seed, is it not? The incorruptible seed. He said,
My word will not return to me void. It will accomplish that
where to. It's the sea were born again
by the incorruptible sea the word of God which live it and
abided for ever. This is the word which by the
gospel is preached. I heard that gospel. Growing up for years I heard
it just like our young people like Davis and Elizabeth and
Lauren. I heard it. And then I left. I couldn't wait to leave. I had
no interest in the gospel. But, like that prodigal son,
the Lord brought me to myself, brought me back to hear the gospel.
And I distinctly remember a time, and I'm not putting any, you
know, I don't put any stocking experiences or anything like
that, although it was real. when I heard the same word that
I'd heard so many times as a young man. Same word. But I heard it as if the Lord
himself spoke to me personally, out loud. And it broke my heart. And I believed quickly, right
there. And from then on, and now here I am. And that word is his power. It's
the seed. The seed is sown. If the seed
is sown, we plant, we water, but the Lord must give the increase.
If the seed is sown, we sorrow, but not as those who have no
hope. What is our hope? In God's mercy
and grace and his word, OK? He said he came to this house
and they were sorrowing and making a great wailing, weeping, wailing. Verse 24, he said, give place.
The maid is not dead, but sleeping. And, you know, the same is said
about so many daughters of the king right now. They're not dead,
but sleeping. Verse 24, give place. And they laughed him to scorn.
They didn't believe him. But the Lord put them out of
the place, like always. When the Lord deals with somebody,
he deals with them. The Lord is not going to save
our children through us. He's going to save them through
a direct confrontation. They're going to have to, the
Lord's going to have to lay hold of them personally. And he got rid of
these people. And he went in and took her by
the hand. And the maid in a robe. And the maid in a robe. And the
fame hereof went abroad unto all that land. Again, Mark's gospel says that
they were astonished with a great astonishment. And what the Lord
truly does, when the Lord truly does something, it's evident.
It's astonishing. It's astonishing. The change
that the Lord brings in a person, it's astonishing. The blind man,
you remember the blind man that was healed, his friends all met
him later on and said, well, I think it's him. No, it can't
be him. And when the Lord does something,
it's truly astonishing, the change that is wrought in somebody by
his sovereign power and sovereign mercy. Truly astonishing. And as the disciples marveled
earlier, When he still that. Ocean. Ever since they said what
manner of man is. Master of the sea and yes he
raises the day how do I know this is a Christ. Because he
raises. The only one that can do that. And we sorrow. But come to the
Lord with these. dead children of ours and with
every issue that you have come to the law plead with him he's
in the saving and raising business all right stand with. My father
thank you thank you thank you for. The gospel the good news
of Christ. Who is like thank you. He'll. Dead Dying Center. Thank you,
Lord. For calling us, those of us who
felt your touch, virtue has gone out from you. We thank you, Lord,
and do it for someone else, we pray. We bring our, not only
our children, but our spouses, our parents, friends, loved ones,
neighbors, bring them to you before you in prayer. Ask him
If it could be thy will for thy glory, that you would raise them. We give you great honor and glory. Thou art worthy. And we pray these things for
Christ's sake. Amen. You're dismissed. Okay.
