Right, over to Psalm 45 now. Psalm 45. I did not read this
for the scripture reading because we are going to go down through
every verse. Psalm 45. This is a Psalm written
by David. about the King. This is a psalm
written to declare and set forth the beauty and glory of Jesus
Christ the King. It was sufficient for these things.
But look at the title underneath the psalm. It says to the chief
musician The word psalm means poetry set to music. These were sung, praises sung,
as we read. The chief musician, upon Shoshanim,
for the sons of Korah, a song of love, a song of instruction,
that's what mask will mean, a song of love. David wrote this song, this song
out of love to his king. Who's his king? Who's David's
king? David's the first king of Israel. There was none before him. But
who's David's king? Same one as my king. the son
of David, Jesus Christ. All right, if you're taking notes,
there's four divisions here in this. Number one is his person. Secondly, his work. And then we'll see his ascension
or enthronement. And lastly, his wife and children. This is about the king. If you
love this one David love, you'll love this. You'll love this. He says in verse one, my heart is indicting a good matter. My heart. If you'll read your
marginal reference there, it says bubbleth up. Bubble it up David speaking about
the one he admires the most the one he loves the most. And he says my heart is just
bubbling up. Another place he said it's like
a bottle full of new wine. It must give vent. That's what
love does you know what you remember when you were first married. How that when you just thought
of your loved one. Your heart just seemed to bubble
over. That's what David says here,
my heart is indicting a good matter, it bubbleth up. It bubbleth
up. I speak of the things which I
have made as touching the king. I'm speaking of the king here. As I said, David was a king. David was a lord, or that is,
a ruler, but David worshipped and knew and loved the King of
kings and the Lord of lords. That was who he worshipped, the
absolute ruler and monarch of the universe, Jesus Christ. He says, my tongue, read on,
my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. He says, I'm ready to
tell you about him. He says, I just can't wait. Once again, as we would speak
of one, we love her wife or children, if asked about them, tell me
about your. And you remember when the Shulamite
maiden was asked about her beloved, tell me what your beloved more
than other. Oh, she said. Thought you'd never
ask. Why he's. And went on to describe
him there and song of Solomon chapter five. And this is what
David does. He says, verse two, he's he's
fairer than the children of men. That sounds like Solomon's. Right, and then it's a one that
so much same. He's fairer. than the children
of men. He's fairer than these sons of
Adam. Fairer than the children of men. None can compare to him. Even among the saints. Now God
has had some fine men and women down through the years. I imagine that Abraham was as
fine as they I mean. I'm just certain that Moses was
just an extraordinary man head and shoulders above the rest
of men. As far as men go. I'm just certain
that that Isaac was a fine man. That David was just. Incomparable
among men. But they're all a bunch of sinners. They're fair. They're fair. And that's all you can say about
man, even his best state. He's altogether vanity. Altogether. But Christ is fairer. He's the fairest. There's some fair individuals
right here. There's some fair folk here. He's the fairest among
ten thousand. He's the pharaoh. None can compare,
no matter how lovely someone may appear to us. And I know
some lovely people. I know some people that the Scripture
says the world's not worthy of these people. There's a salt
of the earth. I know some men and women whom
I consider to be just the finest that this on this planet, the
finest. But no matter how lovely someone
may appear, they have thoughts. They have many thoughts. And they themselves would tell
you, if you could see my heart, if you could know my thoughts,
you would not think so highly of me. Right? But Jesus Christ
He has no fault. He had no fault. No false whatsoever. None whatsoever. None whatsoever. It says that
he stood before all of his accusers one time. And said, which of
you convinces me of sin? Could you do that? Could we stand
before any? I know we couldn't do it if our
wife or husband was present. Could we? Eh? Stand up and say, who convi-
If we did that, if I said that this morning, my wife would say,
I've got something to say here. Objection! Who convi- Christ
did that, stood before all men, and said that somebody find one
fault. Can't do it. He has not. Devils. Said Satan came to him, and Satan
comes to us, doesn't he? Shifts us like wheat. And oh,
he finds all sorts of things to go on, doesn't he? Finds all
sorts of weaknesses, all sorts of evil still within us, and
he works on it, doesn't he? And oh, he manipulates us. He
says he came to Christ and found nothing in him. Nothing to tempt
him. He's fairest. He's fairer than
the children of men. Fairer than the children of men.
Look at this. Grace is poured into thy lips.
There's some men that I know, and women, who when they speak,
they just, their mouth, they just, they speak graciously. They speak graciously. The scripture says your grace
is poured. into and really it means out
of. He is let pour into him. Why
is it poured into him? Because he's full of grace and
truth. The scripture said, but it just
ushers out of him. Some people show grace, don't
they? Some people are kind and gracious and show you grace.
Some say gracious things, but Christ does nothing but kind
and gracious things and says nothing but. gracious thing. That person whom we think is
so gracious, if you catch them in an off hour, you'd think,
do they have any grace at all? Or as I like to say, lose their
grace, you know. Some say gracious thing, but
catch them in an off time and they won't be gracious things
uttered out of usher from their mouth. Christ did. Poured out of his lips. Everything
he said was gracious. He's grace personified. Why is
that? Because he's grace personified. He is grace. That's his name. Verse 2. Grace is poured into
thy lips, therefore God hath blessed thee forever. God has
blessed him because of who he is, what he's like, the son in
whom he's well pleased. You see why God is not well pleased
with anyone but Christ? Read the article in the bulletin.
He's the only son in the true sense of the word. God can only
be pleased with perfection. And God, his heart was indicting
a good matter. His heart was bubbling up when
he took, you know, we look at our children and our hearts bubble
up and we've got to brag on them, don't we? We just got to brag
on them. Well, it's just, as the saying
is, one worm bragging on another worm, right? But when God took
one look at his altogether lovely son, his heart was bubbling up. He had to give in. He said, well,
pleased with him. As he should be, because he's
all aligned, aren't you? Hear him, I hear him. Therefore,
God has blessed him forever with a name above every name. Verse
three, look at that. gird on thy mighty sword, gird
thy sword upon thy thigh, O Most Mighty, with thy glory and with
thy majesty. Gird thy sword." In fact, in
these days, every monarch in full royal dress wore a gleaming
sword at his side. A gleaming sword at his side. Well, our king has a sword, It's
the sword of the Lord, as Scripture says, and it's more powerful
than any other. What was that old myth about
that? Was it that sword? Was it King
Arthur's sword that was struck in the stone, you know, that's
supposed to have been bigger and more powerful than any other?
Well, it's a piece of metal. Well, our king has a sword. It's sharper than any two-edged
sword. why it's quick and powerful. Quick means life. This sword
is so powerful. You know, kings of old, the swords
they used of old, if they ever used them, they mostly used them
to cut heads off with. This, our king can use his to
put one on. He can heal with it. It's life-giving. Not only will it kill, He has
a saber, a power of life as well. It's quick, it's powerful, and
he uses it like a surgeon's knife, like an extension of his arm.
It is his arm. Do you know what I speak of?
The king's sword. Has it been plunged to its hilt
in your hearts? The king's sword. What is this
sword of the Lord? It's what I'm reading right now. Oh, that he might do it at this
moment, pierce our heart and sinful heart. It's the scripture
says it divides. Divides the old man from the
new boy, he can't get it with that sword. He can just. Not
only draw a line in the sand, but he can draw. He can split
you wide open, separate the old from the new. in a moment. Discern, it says,
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Like a
surgeon's scalpel. That surgeon probes deep, doesn't
he? Hannah and I like to watch that
show on the Learning Channel, The Operation. And it's parental discretion
is advised, because it is gory. But that surgeon, it's not gory
to him. He knows exactly what he's doing.
And boy, when he goes to Whacking with that knife, the untrained
eye thinks, oh, he's wounding, he's killing, he's going to kill.
And he's probing deep and getting down to where he needs
to work. He knows what he's doing. He
has skill. He's done it before. And you know this sword, we have this treasure in earthen
vessels. This sword right now is being wielded by one like
young David who says, I haven't tried it. I haven't proved it.
I've got Saul's armor on, as it were. It's a big sword. It's a mighty sword. And these
young whippersnappers and greenhorns like David must be and have taken
this sword before and just... But now, really, it's not in
his hands at all. Because the Lord said, my word
will not return void. It'll accomplish what I've sent
it to do, even in the hands of young ruffians. And you think at times I've cut,
they'll never be back. I've cut their head off. You're wounded deep now. You've
offended terribly now. Well, if it's God wielding the
sword, you haven't offended nearly enough. Because the wound goes
deep. When God uses the sword, it goes
deep. It pierces. It divides. It discerns. What a sword. He can kill with
it. He can make alive with it. Look at verse 3. Continue. Gird
thy sword upon thy thigh, O Most Mighty, with thy glory and thy
majesty. O Most Mighty. Don't you love
these terms? And thy glory and majesty. The glory of God is in this King
the majesty that's really not despise the terms that they give
these. Pinhead princes. Don't you I
despise the terms that they give these measly monarchs today they
call this wrinkled old woman in in. London, Queen, Her Majesty the
Queen. Have you ever seen on boxes of
goods sent here from Great Britain, it'll have H.M. the Queen. They, what's the word? They abbreviate
it, Her Majesty the Queen. Everything that comes out of
that country is H.M. the Queen. Folks, she doesn't
have a bit of majesty. She's just a sinner like the
rest of them. There's only one who deserves this title, Her
Majesty. And folks, I would not call her
that, either, if I saw her today. I wouldn't. I couldn't. I couldn't
in all good conscience. I'd call her Mrs. So-and-so.
That'd be more fun. fitting, wouldn't it? Or ma'am,
but not Her Majesty. So there's one who alone deserves
this title of His Majesty, and that's our Lord Jesus Christ.
Verse 4. Here's His work now. Now, He's
got this sword at His side. That's His person. Mighty, gracious,
fairer than men, grace poured from His lips. regal and royal in his being,
a sword at his side. Verse 4, And in thy majesty,
ride prosperously. Ride prosperously. I love that term, don't you?
The pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. This is
a picture of a king of old who rides through the land on his
big white royal steed with his sword at his side vanquishing
whole countries. You know, I like to read some
of those stories, like Alexander. I've read the story of young
Alexander who rode Bocephus was his horse's, his steed's name,
and he'd ride through and he just conquered everybody in Napoleon,
you know, and so on and so forth. But they got beat. They got whooped. somewhere down, even our most
illustrious Robert E. Lee, road traveler through his
battles. He had a sword at his side, didn't
he? He got whooped. Bad. He was defeated, wasn't he? Hung
his head in shame as he signed the surrender paper. Not this
king. Why, you'd think, you'd think
As these fellows who are supposed to be his ambassadors today talk,
you'd think that he got whooped on Calvary, wouldn't you? Oh, no. He rides prosperously. He rides
roughshod anywhere he wants. You know what that roughshod
means? Just trampling over everything in sight. Roughshod. I let, there's a story over in
2 Samuel chapter 5 that I love. It said that there were some,
who were they? One of those Ites, one of those
Ites back then, whichever one it was, that was, they were in
possession of Jerusalem at the time. And David was coming to
get it. And those fellas said, they had
the audacity to say this. They were hollering from the
wall. They said, you can't come in here. They had their walls
up, you know, and the gates barred, and they had little gods sitting.
They had little idols sitting all over their walls, you know,
that were going to protect them. And they said, David can't come
in here. The next verse says, and David
took it. He didn't even answer them. Why Jesus can't do anything.
Yours might not, but mine rides roughshod. He takes whom he pleases,
thank God. He does as he will, with whom
he will, where he will, when he will. He's the King of kings
and Lord of lords. He rides prosperously. Prosperously! Everything he does
prospers. He's never failed once to do
all that he set out to do. We call that invincible grace. Invincible. He came down here
with a mission to accomplish. Did he do it? Hanging on that
cross, he said, Done! Finished. A covenant to fulfill. Was it
all fulfilled? Every jot and tittle, or must
we keep part of it? All fulfilled. By his knowledge
shall my righteous servant justify me. A battle, a war. We often sing, you know, the
battle has not been won, and the war has it now. No, really,
come on now. And how much fighting do we do?
We're not wrestling with flesh and blood. We're wrestling with the one
that Adam couldn't tangle with. We're wrestling with the one
who only wanted greater than he can handle. And he said, Satan,
that desired you, but I've got him in chains. I've got a leash
around his neck. Aren't you glad about that? Because
I'm no match. He rides prosperously. Oh, how
Lindsay, that dude, said that Satan is alive and well on planet
Earth. No, he's not. He's on a chain,
and he's got a sentence that he carries. He's going to die. Because of
truth, read that, ride prosperously because of truth, because of
truth, according to God's will, according to God's word, according
to God's way. Christ is the truth. And he came
down here to do this work according to the truth. According to God's
word in meekness, Christ is the truth. But in meekness. In meekness, can you imagine
approaching King David back then? Solomon is a better example,
Solomon says that he was greater than all the kings before or
after him. Solomon and all the it says when
when Sheba saw Solomon there was no more spirit left in her.
Now Sheba was Queen. Deborah Sheba she commanded many
servants and and people but when she says when she saw Solomon
and all his attendant and his royalty and his power and he
his ascension to the throne and he heard his past is no more
spirit left. Well, I'm telling you. Well,
David is telling us that there's a greater than Solomon. If you ever see him, you'll say
there's none like him. He's a king of kings. Yet Christ
said, learn of me. I make. Why he got down off his throne
and came down to where we were just to talk to us. He's approachable, Joe. That's
the point I'm trying to make. You just couldn't just come up
to David or Solomon. You can't. You do it with fear. You do it with reverence. You
do it with respect. But you can do it any time. And you know, you try to say,
have you ever met some famous person? And back when I was 18
years old, I met Jack Nicklaus. You know who he stands favorite
athlete. I'm just kidding. Stand that like golf. He thinks
it's food. And it is. At any rate, I met him back when
I was 18 years old. I remember I was at this tournament,
pro tournament. I remember come walking up the
stairs. There he was. I about ran right into it. Brandon,
I about knocked Jack Nicklaus down. I went You're you're you're

what makes a person—one who's truly great now is truly humble
and meek. And he doesn't have to go around
saying it. You just know it, don't you?
And it's no—it doesn't lessen his person when he comes down
to the level of a peasant. confident in his kingship. He's meek. Isn't that a glorious
picture of him? And righteousness. Righteousness. That's why Christ came. in meekness, because of truth,
because of the gospel, in meekness and righteousness. Christ was
obedient or meek unto death, even the death of the cross,
and righteousness, it behooved Him to fulfill all righteousness
for me. He didn't have to. Christ didn't
have to come down here to live 33 years as a man. He didn't
have to do that. But He is righteousness. He didn't
have to prove He was righteous. He is righteousness. But He did
it for me. Because I can't do it. And he
did it for me. And after he did it, boy, now
here is humility and here's greatness. He gave me all the credit for
what he did. Now that's greatness, isn't it,
Nancy? How many of us could do that? Work 33 years doing something
and give somebody else all the credit. That's greatness. That's what Christ did. That's
what Christ did. He gave me his righteousness.
Then he took, what about take all their blame? What about take
their blame? Give them all the credit for
what you've done and take all the blame, the shame, and the
penalty that they owe on your side. That's what Jesus Christ
did. You ever wonder why he didn't
open his mouth at Calvary? Because he was guilty. He was
guilty because he was me. How many of us can stand, could
stand and take it as somebody hurled insult after insult, false
charge after false charge? That's what Jesus Christ did.
And he opened not his mouth. Why? Because he was me. And he took it. and righteousness
gave me his righteousness read on verse four and I right hand
shall teach the terrible things his right hand has taught me
terrible things as it done done it to you his right hand. His
right hand. Some have a Jesus who has no
hand don't I mine has to right and left. And in his right hand
is salvation itself. Read on. Verse 5. Thine arrows,
the scripture says, are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies,
whereby the people fall unto thee. Thine arrows. Have you
felt his arrows? You were by nature children of
wrath, even as others. You were an enemy, weren't you,
at one time? Hating this God by nature, hating
this Christ, hating this gospel, weren't you? And then he came
along with an arrow and pierced your hard heart that
says the people fall under him. That's the reason we don't beg
people. That was a bow. You've been bowhunting, haven't
you? Not this year. Not this year, but you have been
bowhunting. You've shot many arrows, haven't you? Never hit
one yet. I didn't mean to bring that up and embarrass you, but
the point I'm trying to make here is, and you will, I mean,
I'm confident a good hunter is, he will, but the point I'm trying
to make is man's arrows, man's words, man's attempts and so
forth miss the mark, don't they? They're blunt. Man's word. But,
Rick, if God Almighty has his heir appointed to the man, is
he going to hit him? Is he going to take, take him? Huh? There's a story, I love this
story of a, there was a young, back when Ahab was king. Ahab
was king and It says that the enemies were fighting against
Ahab, and they couldn't make any headway, so they all had
given up. And they were on their way home,
and it says some young fellow with a bow, you know, he had
a new bow, and he didn't get to shoot anybody, and he was
disappointed. It's kind of like, I remember
when I got my first gun, you know, four-tenths. And I went
out squirrel hunting, and I didn't shoot anything. And you know,
he said, all shucks, and you're about to leave, and you want
to shoot something, so you shoot a tree, you know. Right? Well, that's what this young
fellow, this boy, said, all shucks, I ain't hit nothing. He killed Ahab, the king. And if God Almighty, and I ain't
shot nothing all my life. Rick, I've been shooting all
my life. I ain't shot nothing. Don't ever expect to, but when
God has the arrow. Here he is. Hope he gets you in his cross
sight. He takes them all. I hope this
error is coming home. Oh, if I could do it, I'd do
it right now. Oh, if I could do it. He can. He does. Every time. Every time. His arrows are sharp. In the king's hand. They're sharp
in the heart of the king's enemy. That's what it does first. It
pierces the heart, convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Read on. It says, Thy
throne, O God, the people fall under thee. Thy throne, O God,
is forever and ever. Now God's talking about, that's
what Hebrews 1, Paul said, God said this. He did. God said this
about his son, John. God's the one that said that,
concerning Jesus Christ. Who's God? Jesus Christ is God. God the Father even said that,
that he was God. Thy throne, O God, is forever
and ever. The scepter of thy kingdom is
a right scepter. Well, I like this analogy. Scepter. Don't you, Deborah?
Remember the story of Ahasuerus and Esther? Y'all remember that
story? You don't? Well, we'll have to
preach that Wednesday night, won't we? Ahasuerus, the king,
had a scepter and nobody could come near unless he held out
the golden scepter to him. scepter of right, a scepter of
old. A scepter is that which a king carried. It was a symbol
of his power, a symbol of his authority. He ruled with it.
He made decisions with it. He granted favors with it. He
bestowed honor with it, as dubbing a knight. You know, a knight
would come in and he'd say, I dub thee sir this or sir that. And
he decreed with it, death or life. What's this scepter? Well, it's
a what and a who. It's both. It's the Word of God. It's the Word of God. Again,
it's the Word of God, but who's the Word of God? Jesus Christ
is the Word of God. He's the one whom God rules with,
doesn't He? He's the one who is God's power. He is the one whom God makes
all decisions through. He's the one whom God grants
favor through and because of. He's the one in whom we are accepted,
the scepter. of God, of thy kingdom, is a
right scepter, or a scepter of righteousness. And when he holds
it out, we're accepted. When Christ comes to us, we're
accepted. And it's a right scepter. I love
this term. It's a right scepter. What shall
not the judge of the earth do right? Yes, he will. Yes, he does. And everything
he does is right. It's right. Read on. Thou lovest
righteousness and hatest wickedness. Christ loved to do the Father's
will. He said, it's my meat and my
drink. The Scripture says that can the
Ethiopian change his skin? Can the leper change his spot?
Neither can we be good with your customs doing evil. The Scripture
says, the sun and the moon don't shine, they're not pure in His
sight. How much more abominable and filthy is man that drinketh
iniquity like the water. Is that you? That seems to drink
in iniquity like the water? That that seems to be our natural... Scripture says here that Christ,
His meat and His drink was to do God's will. Sin was a foul taste to Him. That was his meat contract. And
therefore God loves him. Therefore, look at it, verse
7, God, thy God, hath anointed thee with oil and gladness above
thy fellows. You're going to like this, John
David, if you're still with me, if there's anybody still with
me. Jesus Christ, it says he's anointed him above his fellows.
Jesus Christ is above all others. He's given a name above all others. He said it himself. He said,
you're from beneath, but I'm from above. Christ is above approach. He's above sin. There's some
things that it seems like I'm never going to get above. Don't
you? There seems to be some things
that I'm never going to rise above while I'm in this life.
Some sin. We sang that song, Joe, that
says, Away from the mire and away from the clay. Do you feel
mired in sin, like you can't get your feet set? Have you ever walked in muck
and mire? Sure you have, with those big
rubber boots on. Muck and mire, that's sin, that's
me, bound down by precious blood, all that. And what he's going to have to
do is just lift us right out of our boots. He's above all that. He's above
his fellows. Nancy, you're going to like this.
Verse 8. All thy garments smell of myrrh,
aloes, and cashew. Have you ever smelled somebody
that smelled real good? You ladies, you do it all the
time. You put on this perfume and you walk by and men just
melt. Wow, what was that? But you know
it's a cover-up. Oh, yes it is. It's a cover-up. It's pretended aroma. It's not
natural. It's not natural. You know what's
natural to us? Absolute stench. Yes it is, people. How long does it take you after
you've taken a shower to start feeling grungy again? Talk about
brushing your teeth. Let me give you a real good example. How long does it take after you
bust your teeth that you don't want to talk to anybody face-to-face?
You know, the Scripture goes deep. It says our mouths are
like an open sepulchre, our throats. I believe that's alluding to
not only the filth that comes from our old being, but the very
breath that's within us is dead, death, stinks, doesn't it? You know, I don't believe Christ
had bad breath. I know he didn't. He had sweet breath. Grace came out of his lips. Oh,
yes. Sin. Bad breath is the result
of sin. Oh, yeah. Oh, my. We have a pretended perfume,
don't we? Everything about him smelled
sweet. He didn't need perfume. It was natural. My grandfather
used to wear Old Spice, and it's my favorite. And ever since I've
told John and Earlene about it, I'll get one every birthday and
every Christmas, a bottle of Old Spice. I think they really want to give
it to me out of niceness. But then again, there might be
a hidden message behind it. At any rate, my grandfather,
oh, he'd always smell the myrrh and old spices. Well, that's
Christ. Myrrh. What's myrrh? It's a sticky,
sweet substance. Old-fashioned stuff. Sticky,
sweet to women. Just a touch. He had it all over
him, like honey. Aloe. Aloe. Or aloe, however
you want. Aloe has a healing, soothing
quality about it, doesn't it? Cassia. That was the bark of
a tree, much like cinnamon we have now. Sweet-smelling cassia. He's a tree of life, isn't he?
Read on. Out of our ivory palaces whereby
they have made thee glad, rather made me glad, the house of the
Lord, the gospel of Christ, has made me mighty glad. And you,
I've got a whiff of him, and he's melted me. He's walked by,
and I've smelled him. And you, sweet-smelling Savior
of Jesus Christ, and he has made me merry. And we did. He's away now. But I'm going home to him one
of these days. Well, here's his wife and children,
and I'll quit. Verses nine and followed. The
king's daughters were among the honorable women. Did you know
that's what you were, Roberta Sword? King's daughter. You thought she was just Henry
Sword's wife. You're the king's daughter. King's daughter among
honorable, honorable, are you honorable, Roberta? Anything
honorable about you? He even made you so. How? Because you're his. That's why. That's the only thing that makes
us honorable. Because we belong to him. Read on. Verse 10. Harken, old daughter. OK, listen
to me, Bert. I'm talking to you. Old daughter,
consider. Think about that. Incline your
ear, OK? Turn up your hearing aid. Forget
your own people. Forget that guy beside you, just
for a little while, in thy father's house. I know you call him unforgettable,
but forget him for just a moment, okay? In your father's house.
Why? Somebody desires you. Verse 11. The king. Jesus Christ. Your maker is your husband. You've
got a better husband than this one. No offense, Henry. No offense taken, right? There's
a better than thee. The king, you're the king's bride,
the king's daughter. He greatly desires thy beauty.
Thy beauty? Yeah, you're made beautiful through
his coming. He's thy lord, worship him. Verse
12, the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift. This world,
God gave this world for the sake of his people. Even the rich
among the people shall entreat thy favor. The king's daughter
is all glorious within. Her clothing is of wrought gold.
Wrought? Who wrought it? Read on. Verse 14. She brought into the
king an arraignment of needlework. Who did the work? Christ himself did the work.
He did the work. The virgins, her companions that
follow her, shall be brought unto thee. That's Christ. I mean,
that's the angels. that he's given charge over thee,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." Verse fifteen, "...with
gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought." This gospel
will make you glad. "...they shall enter into the
king's palace. Instead of thy father shall be
thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth."
Some of you, by God's grace, are going to see your children
have seen your children marry this same one. Nancy wouldn't
you love to be able to get to get a husband for Shannon just
like that fellow right there. Huh. That's what they say. You know they say that a woman
if she could order a husband for her daughter if she has a
good one that she ordered one just like the one she married
wouldn't you do it Nancy just like him. Well, God has over
there in Psalm 47 said, chosen your children's inheritance for
them. They've been betrothed, Sam and
Steve and hopefully Shannon, have been betrothed to the best
husband. Oh, they'll never leave him.
He'll never leave them. Read on. I'll make thy name. Verse seventeen, David says,
any time I stand up as one I want to remember, as one I want to
talk about, as one that fills my heart. Verse seventeen, I'll
make thy name be remembered in all generations. The people shall
praise thee forever and ever. David talking about himself,
oh no, oh no, oh no. Do you remember that time that
David stripped himself nearly naked and put a little thing
on himself and went dancing before the Ark. And his wife got embarrassed. He said, You sure made a spectacle
of yourself. She didn't know his king, did
she? She didn't know his king. She'd
never seen him. And that's what David said, he
said, every time I get to speak as one subject, I'm going to
take. Old brother Gary Vance said this,
he said, David has seen Christ best, preach Him best. Those that hadn't seen Him, they
don't preach Him at all. Spurgeon said this, listen to
this, and I'll quit with it. Have I got you for five seconds? Spurgeon said sermons are only
valuable as they point to Christ and speak
of Christ. He said a Christless gospel or
message is no gospel at all. And it calls forth merriment
among devils. Satan is just delighted to hear
all this that's going on today. There's no gospel in it. But when Christ is preached,
high and lifted up, devils are vanquished. God's people are
smitten. He prospers. He's praised and
honored and glorified and Christ is praised.
