Exodus 25:10-22
What does the Bible say about the Ark of the Testimony?

The Ark of the Testimony represented God's presence with Israel, symbolizing His covenant and the demands of perfect obedience.

The Ark of the Testimony, also known as the Ark of the Covenant, was a central element of the Israelites' worship and relationship with God. According to Exodus 25:22, God said, 'And there I will meet with thee,' indicating that the Ark was where He chose to commune with His people. Inside the ark were the tablets of the law, Aaron's rod that budded, and a golden pot of manna. This ark not only represented God's presence but also served as a powerful reminder of His demand for absolute perfection and holiness from His people. The symbolism of the Ark points ultimately to Christ, who fulfills these demands and brings us safely into communion with God.

Exodus 25:22, Numbers 10:33

How do we know the covenant of grace is true?

The covenant of grace is true because it is established in Scripture through the perfect obedience and sacrifice of Christ.

The covenant of grace is grounded in the completed work of Christ, who fulfilled the requirements of the law on our behalf. In Exodus 19, the Lord made a covenant with Israel, demanding their obedience for blessings. However, they broke this covenant almost immediately. In contrast, Christ, as the believer's representative, perfectly obeyed all of God's demands. The essence of the covenant of grace is encapsulated in the blood of Christ, which ratifies the agreement between God and His people, reflecting the truth that our salvation depends entirely upon Christ's righteousness and not our own efforts. Therefore, it is through Christ that we can confidently claim the assurances of this covenant.

Exodus 19, 1 Corinthians 1:30

Why is understanding the Ark of the Covenant important for Christians?

Understanding the Ark of the Covenant helps Christians appreciate God's holiness and the sacrificial system that points to Christ.

The Ark of the Covenant serves as a profound representation of God's interaction with humanity. It stood in the tabernacle, a visible symbol of God's holiness and the means by which He could dwell among His people. The demands of the law within the Ark exemplify God's righteousness, while the mercy seat signifies the place where atonement occurs. For Christians, this understanding highlights the necessity of Christ's sacrifice, which fully satisfies God's justice. The Ark teaches that our approach to God requires reverence, rooted in acknowledgment of our need for a mediator, who is Christ Jesus. Hence, grasping the significance of the Ark allows Christians to see the continuity of Scripture and the centrality of Christ in fulfilling the law and covenant.

Let's open our Bibles to Exodus. Let's go to chapter 25 of Exodus. We ask God to meet with us as
we assemble again. I don't want to presume that
he will bless us and meet with us. I'm thankful for the promise
of God that he has left us in his word that when we're gathered
together that he will be with us. I never presume that he'll
bless me. stand always behind this pulpit
and really in fear and trembling. Because I have a pretty good
understanding of the fact that we're all heading out into eternity. And I want to give out right
information. I only want to say those things
that are correct according to the scriptures. And I often ask
God to filter what I have to say lest I inadvertently utter
error or say something that leaves people confused. I don't want
to leave you confused. That's not going to do any good
if we leave here saying that, well, I know he is excited about
something, but I'm not exactly sure what it was. I've shared
this with you probably before, but when we were in Bible college,
we had chapel every day. Did you have chapel every day?
We did. We had chapel every day, and
it was mandatory. And we had guest speakers come
in, sometimes as professor, and sometimes it was, of course,
we was in Winston-Salem, a pretty big city, so we'd have various
preachers come in and speak. And this guy came in and spoke
to us, and I tell you, he just, he was full of many words that
were hard to be understood. And as we were leaving, exiting
the chapel, my buddy walked out with me and he also believed
Sovereign Grace, by the way, but we were going out together
and he said, boy, that sure was deep, wasn't it? And our Greek
professor was walking right behind us eavesdropping on our conversation. He said, that wasn't deep, it
was just muddy. Well, I don't want to say anything
that muddies the waters, and I'm not deep. I don't profess to be deep. I'm
not a professor of the scriptures. expert on the Word of God. I'm
just a country preacher and trying to be honest with people who
are eternity bound. And I want to speak to you this
evening on the arc of the testimony. And I want you to stay with me
and listen to what I have to say and try to be honest and
simple as we look at what the word of God says. We know the
ark, the ark of the covenant, the ark of the testimony. We
know it indicated and represented the very presence of God with
Israel. In fact, he says here in Exodus
25 and 22, he says, and there I will meet with thee. That's what God said. This is
where I'm gonna meet with you. Exodus 25, 22. And there I will
meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy
seat, from between the two cherubims, which are upon the ark of the
testimony of all things which I will give thee in commandment
under the children of Israel. The Ark of the Testimony. Now,
it is important to remember that the word ark is used in the Old
Testament three different ways. First of all, there was the Ark
of Noah. God looked down from heaven,
all the earth was full of corruption, God said every imagination of
man's heart is only evil continually. Man was vile. It talks about
the sons of God married the daughters of men. The sons of God were
not angels. I know that's how some people
interpret that in Genesis chapter 6, but that is not correct. The Savior set us straight on
that. He said with the angels, they're
neither male nor female. They don't marry. The sons of
God were the sons of Seth. That is, they're the people of
God. That's who they were. They're
believers, people who believed in grace. Who did they marry? They married, they were kind
of seduced by women who didn't know the gospel, who didn't love
Christ, who didn't look to the seed of the woman, who didn't
believe in salvation by grace. They believed salvation another
way. And these married and then the
next generation that came along that grew up, they didn't believe
the gospel and on and on it went till finally God looked throughout
the earth and he said, they're all in a mess. He said, I'm going
to destroy the whole shooting match. But there was a man, Noah,
and he found grace in the eyes of God. God was gracious to him. And God said to that man, Noah,
I want you to build an ark. an ark to the saving of your
house. And into that ark, God brought,
God called into the ark, Noah and his wife, his sons, and his
daughters-in-law. There were also in the ark, of
course, many animals that God purposed to preserve upon the
face of the earth. Of that ark, We know that God
said to pitch it within and without with pitch. If you look up that
word, it means propitiate. It means a covering. It means
a coating. And what it did, it pictured
salvation in Christ Jesus. That ark was a place of preservation. That was a place of safety. God's gonna send judgment. And
that ark had to be sturdy. It had to be strong. It had to
be able to withstand all the wrath of God that he's going
to pour out on the earth. God's going to open up the heavens
and he's going to open up the fountains of the deep. And that
ark had to handle it all. It had to preserve everybody
who was on the inside of it. That ark pictured our Lord Jesus,
our Lord Jesus. God gave him a people and we
were in him. That's the only place of safety
from the judgment of God. And as the wrath of God, as the
judgment of God fell on the ark that Noah built, that Noah made,
and that ark endured it, that ark came through. It went through
rough waters. It went through the very wrath
of God. All the judgment, all the anger
of God toward the wicked, it was absolutely unleashed on that
ark. But I'll tell you what, when
that storm was over, that ark was still standing. It was still
sturdy, still going on, still afloat. It didn't sink. It bore
up under that wrath of God. And that's our Lord Jesus. You
see that, don't you? He bore up under the wrath of
God and we were in Him. God put us in Him before the
world was made, didn't He? We were in Christ Jesus. And
He took absolute responsibility for us. And He propitiated the
wrath of God. He appeased divine judgment. And we were in Him. When the
judgment fell, it fell on us. But we were in Christ Jesus and
he weathered the storm. He endured through it all and
he came out. He came out on the other side.
He arose again because of our justification. And as he came
forth, so we came forth in him. That's the ark, the ark. God established a covenant with
Noah Just like God established a covenant with Christ Jesus. And He's never going to destroy
us, because we're His by covenant grace and covenant love. And
you know, think about it this way, in God sparing Noah, God
spared Noah's offspring. Noah was the one who was, as
it were, the preserver of the race of mankind. Just like our
Lord Jesus, he is the preserver, he is the savior of his people,
of his people. Well, then there's another ark. That's the ark of bulrushes made
by Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Amram and Jochebed. They already
had a boy, Aaron, and they had a girl, Miriam. But Pharaoh had
decreed that he was getting concerned that Israel was getting too powerful,
that it was going to build a big army and maybe overthrow him.
And so he said, well, I tell you what, I want all the little
boys drowned in the river. You can save the little girls,
OK. Them little boys, they grow up to be soldiers, so I want
those done away with. Well, Amram and Jochebed, they
had a little boy. His name was Moses. And Moses,
he had been here three months. And Jochebed made an ark of bulrushes. And she dabbed it within and
without pitch. That was his protection. That
was his preservation. And she put that little three-month-old
boy in that ark of bulrushes. And that was his place of safety.
And I don't know whether it got caught up in the reeds or exactly
what happened, whether it floated for a little bit. It must not
have floated very far, because Miriam was kind of keeping an
eye on him. But I know this. He was safe
in that ark. And I'll tell you, to all of
us, We're safe in the Ark of Christ Jesus. He's the Ark of
Bull Rush. He's our place of safety, just
like Noah's Ark, and just like the Ark that Moses was in. There's
our preservation, there's our safety. There's no safety anywhere
else. You see, our Lord Jesus, He's
the Savior of sinners. He is the only one who can preserve
us. He preserves us from the wrath
of God, and He preserves us from our enemies. And so Moses was kept safe. So you have the Ark of Noah. In that Ark of Noah, they were
absolutely shut in by God, and watch this, they were shut in
with God, too. Weren't they? They were with
God, because the Lord said, come into the Ark. Well, that leaves
us with the understanding that He is in there already. You come
into the Ark. God shut them in and God was
shut in with them. They were shut in with God. And
then the Ark of Moses. But there's another ark. The
Ark of the Testimony. That's what I want to talk to
you about this evening. But before I go any further,
I want you to remember what I said a little bit earlier. The word
ark is used in a three-fold way. Noah's ark, an ark of bulrushes,
and the ark of the testimony, the ark. But it's never in the
Bible, it's never called arks. Ever notice that? It's always
one ark. It doesn't say three arks, it's
always one. Because every ark pictured Christ
Jesus, He is the only Savior. You see, the Bible is very specific. in its language. It doesn't lead
us to say, okay, three arcs. No. One arc set forth in three
different ways. You see, our Lord Jesus is the
one way to God. He's one door. He said, I am
the door. By me, if any man enter in, he
shall be saved and go in and out and find pasture. One door,
one way to God. One place of safety. One refuge
from the judgment of God's wrath. Our Lord Jesus, He is Noah's
ark. He is the ark of bulrushes. And
He is the ark of the testimony. Each ark was itself a place of
absolute safety. And this is where we find our
safety is only in Christ Jesus. Let's talk about the ark, the
testimony, which was within the tabernacle, the tabernacle in
the wilderness. We know the entire tabernacle
spoke of Christ Jesus, our Savior, very ordinary looking tent. Looked like any other tent. If
you were up on a hill, you'd see all these tents down there.
There's one of them right in the middle. But it looked rather
drab. Wasn't anything special looking
about it. It looked like all the rest of
the tents. But on the inside was unusual, exquisite beauty. Because you see, that tabernacle,
that Old Testament tent, it pictured Christ Jesus. You see, everything
about that tabernacle pictured Him. They were all shadows of
Christ Jesus, of which He's the substance. He's the one who casts
the shadows. And everything about the tabernacle
pictured our Lord Jesus. The tabernacle had, as you know,
seven pieces of furniture. Just inside the entrance at the
eastern side was the brazen altar. That was the place of sacrifice.
That was the very basis of Israel's worship. You can't worship God
without sacrifice. You can't worship God without
blood. There's got to be a life, a life
that is to be taken in order that those who have committed
evil against God, be spared. And so right there, the very
first thing stood big, big, you couldn't miss it. When you looked
in the gate of the tabernacle, right there, it was the brazen
altar. It was a bloody, location. Wherever it was, it was bloody. When they broke camp, they'd
moved that brazen altar, but then when they reestablished
their camp, that brazen altar was set up again. There was a
tabernacle just inside the tabernacle. There's that brazen altar. And
if you wanted to worship God, that's where you came. That's
where you met God. That's where God met with men.
But you must not go there without bringing an animal that's got
to die because blood's got to be shed. Without the shedding
of blood is no remission of sins. That's what Scripture says. That's
why over and over again the Bible keeps before us blood. Blood. The blood of an innocent victim.
Not the blood of a diseased animal. Not the
blood of a crippled animal. But the blood of an animal without
spot or without blemish. Because they all pointed to the
Lord Jesus. God's perfect sacrifice for sin. There's the brazen altar. Then
there was the labor of brass, and that's where the priests
washed their hands. Christ, he's the cleansing fountain. He's the one who washes us in
the water of the word. Then he got to the tabernacle
proper, 15 foot wide, 45 feet long. had two kind of rooms or compartments. First of all, the holy place.
As you walked in, to the left's a golden candlestick. That's
Christ the light of the world. To the right, table of showbread. 12 loaves of bread on that table. Christ the bread of life. And
then, right in the middle, Right in line with the brazen altar,
right in line with the laver of brass, there was the golden
altar of incense. That's where priests prayed,
burned incense to God. It typified the work of Christ
Jesus, our great high priest. And then there was a veil. You
couldn't go behind that veil. Nobody could go behind that veil
but one man, the high priest, and he only one time a year,
then not without blood. On the Day of Atonement, the
high priest would go behind that veil, and then behind that veil,
there's the Ark of God, the Ark of the Testimony. And then he'd
add a lid on it of pure gold, the mercy seat. And there's all
the furniture of the tabernacle. and everything pictured Christ
Jesus. You see, there is no understanding
of the reason of the tabernacle and the way the pieces of furniture
of the tabernacle were made. There's no understanding of all
of that if you take Christ Jesus out of the equation. The only
way to understand all of the Old Testament and the only way
to understand the tabernacle and every piece of furniture
about the tabernacle is to consider this sets forth our Savior in
some way or fashion. Everything pictured either who
He is or what He did or what He would accomplish. That ark, the ark of the testimony,
just a little box. a chest, three and three-fourths
feet long, like a kind of a cabinet, two, two and a quarter feet high. Box made of wood. The scripture
says made of acacia wood or shitum wood. It had to be that kind
of wood because it had to be a wood that was durable. Wood
that lasted. And that was the longest lasting
wood they had. But that wood had to be covered
with gold. Gold. So that's all you saw was
the gold. And that pictured our Lord Jesus.
The wood was that picture. His humanity. The reality that
he's a man. The gold pictured his deity.
The ark had four rings of gold, kind of at the bottom of it,
and through that was put, they made two poles, cut out two poles
of shittum wood that covered them with gold. And they put
those, they shoved those poles through those rings on either
side, and they never took them poles out. Because nobody could
ever touch the ark. The only thing they could touch
was the poles. There were men designated the
Levites. They're the ones who carried
the Ark of the Covenant. Nobody else could carry it. And even they must be very careful. Don't touch the Ark. That's holy. There's the presence of God.
You can't come to God. You can't approach God. God's
a consuming fire. Ask Uzzah about that later in
the Old Testament. As the ark was being, at David's
orders, being moved, it was on a new cart. David thought he
was doing God a favor. And that ark got to shaking when,
I guess, the cart maybe dropped in a hole or something and Uzzah
went to touch it and God killed him. You be careful about the
things of God. God's righteous and holy in all
of His doings, and you better treat Him with reverence. I know
He meant well. He meant well. But He did wrong. You see, in this matter of religion,
in this matter of dealing with God, you can mean well, you can
have good intentions, but be wrong. And that's so a false
religion. It's one of the things I brought
out of my Sunday school class this morning. There are a lot
of people who are sincere, who mean business. You know, our
Lord said to His disciples, He said, they're going to beat you,
they're going to put you out of the synagogue, they're going
to put you to death, and here's what they're going to say, we're
doing it for God. That right? That's what He said.
We're doing God a service. And Uzzah thought he's doing
God a service. I'm doing the good thing here.
I'm going to steady the ark. He's dead man now as soon as
he touched the ark. It's not good enough to have
good intentions to mean well. Well, I mean well. I'm sure you
do. I'm full of sincerity, preacher. I'm sure you are. But still there's
only one There's only one gospel. You've got to do things God's
way. That's what we've got to take
away from this. The Ark of the Covenant. On top of it was the mercy seat. A lid of gold. Stained with blood. Inside the
Ark. God's law, Aaron's rod that budded,
a golden pot of manna. Now what about this ark? Well,
it's called here the Ark of the Testimony. In fact, it's said
to be that in Exodus 25, 16, And thou shalt put into the ark
the testimony which I shall give, the ark, the testimony which
I shall give. And then in the 22nd verse, I'll
meet with you there at the ark of the testimony. What does the
word testimony mean? Witness, or literally the record
of God's demands and God's will. You see, that's what's inside.
There's the law of God. I know there's Aaron's rod that
budded and a golden pot of manna, but there's the law of God in
there. That's the mind and the will and the demands of God. Thou shalt, thou shalt, thou
shalt. That's what's in there, those
two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, written
in rock. This is God's demands. What does
God demand? Absolute perfection. That's what
God demands. And you read those laws set forth
in Exodus, the 20th chapter. They're not suggestions. They're
not, God didn't say, this would be a good thing for you to live
by. No, no, no. This is the ark of the testimony. The word testimony means this
is the will of God, this is the witness of that which our God
demands. And here's the way you just kind
of sum it up this way. Perfection. That's what God demands. What does the Ark of the Testimony
say? God demands perfection, God demands
holiness, God demands righteousness, and He's not gonna settle for
anything less. And if you break every one of
them laws, James says you've broken the whole thing. Now what'd
he say? You've broken the whole thing. So there's a reason the Ark is
called the Ark of the Testimony. Because that's a record of God's
will and God's demands for perfection. And then let me give you another
reference. Look at Numbers chapter 10 and verse 33. Here's another
one. It's also called the Ark of the
Covenant of Heaven. The Lord. The Ark of the Covenant
of the Lord. It's the Ark of the Testimony.
I'm going to give you here several names that this Ark has in the
Scriptures here. The Ark of the Testimony, the
Ark of the Record, the Ark of the Will of God. And then secondly, the Ark of
the Covenant of the Lord. Numbers 10 and 33. They departed from the mount
of the Lord three days' journey. And the ark of the covenant of
the Lord went before them in the three days' journey to search
out a resting place for them. What does the word covenant mean?
Well, it means an agreement, a contract, or a treaty. You
could just write those words down. That's what a covenant
is, a contract, an agreement, or a treaty. That ark is the ark of the covenant
of the Lord. You see, go back with me to Exodus
19. Here the Lord made a covenant
with Israel. He entered into a contract. He entered into an agreement
with Israel. And this is what it was. Look
at Exodus chapter 19. Look at verse 4. Are you there?
Exodus 19 verse 4. I'll read the third verse. Moses
went up unto God, went up in the mountain, and the Lord called
unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to
the house of Jacob, and tell the house of Israel, You've seen
what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bear you on eagles'
wings and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if, that's a mighty and powerful
two-letter word, if, if you will obey my voice indeed and keep
my covenant, whose covenant is it? It's God's covenant. So this
is God, an agreement, a treaty, Here's a contract God's entering
into with Israel, okay? If you'll keep my covenant, then
you'll be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people, for
all the earth is mine. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom
of priests and an holy nation. These are the words that thou
shalt speak unto the children of Israel. In other words, the
Lord said this to Moses, and now you tell him. This is a treaty,
this is a contract between me and them. Which basically breaks down to
this. If you obey me, all will be well. But if you disobey me, you're
gonna be in big trouble. So Moses, verse seven, he came,
he called for the elders of the people, the representatives.
He laid before their faces all these words that God had commanded
him, the Lord had commanded him. And all the people answered together
and said, all that the Lord has spoken, we will do. Here's what
they did. They entered into a contract
with God. That's what they did. It's just
like a man shaking hands. If I go to you and we agree,
I'll do this if you do that. We both shake hands on it. We
got a contract. We got an agreement. We got a
treaty. The Lord said to Israel, if you
obey me, you'll live, you'll be a nation above all other nations
because all the nations of the world are mine. And with this came promises of
physical, physical blessings, that is, mercies. If you do everything I tell you
to do, I give you all of these mercies. And Moses said, now
this is what God said, now what do y'all think? What do y'all
say? And they said, you go back and tell God, Everything he says in the law,
we will do. And it's like they shook hands
with God. They entered into a contract
with God. Look at chapter 24, verses seven
and eight. 24, seven and eight. He took the book of the covenant.
He read in the audience of the people. And they said, all that
the Lord had said will we do and be obedient. And Moses took
the blood. He sprinkled it on the people. He said, behold, the blood of
the covenant which the Lord hath made with you concerning all
these words." It's covenant. Here's the exchange of promises. And that's sealed with blood.
The covenant is ratified. And you know how long Israel
kept the covenant? Not long at all before they broke
it. And in that ark, there's the
law of God that all of them said, we'll keep it. We'll keep it. That's why it's called the Ark
of the Covenant of the Lord. We'll keep that law. Everything
you've said, we'll do. But they broke it. Now, thank
God for another covenant. a covenant of grace made with
a better representative, Christ Jesus. And I love the terms of
that covenant because all the conditions for the blessings
and the mercies of that covenant were conditioned upon the obedience
of Christ Jesus unto his death. He did everything the Father
told him to do. As far as the law of God's concerned,
he kept it perfectly. He is Himself the Ark of the
Covenant, because in Him God's law was safely preserved. He obeyed every jot and tittle
of it. And then He answered on our behalf,
He answered the demands of the law by giving His life a ransom
for us, because the law says the soul that sinneth shall die.
There's a penalty to be paid. It isn't enough for Him to also
keep the law for us. He's got to pay the penalty for
us breaking the law. The law's got to be satisfied.
The law demands... I've got to have retribution.
That's what the law of God says. Somebody's got to die. Somebody's
got... some blood's got to be shed.
It's got to be the blood of an innocent victim. If you can't
find a substitute who's suitable, you're going to die and perish.
And Christ Jesus said, here I am, take me and let all my people
go. You see, this is why it's called
the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. It's the Lord's covenant. It's the Lord's covenant. Then
in Joshua chapter three, look at this, Joshua chapter three
and look at verse 13. Joshua chapter three. And verse 13. And that's just
when they're getting ready to go into, into Jericho. And marching around. Now here
we go. Joshua 3.13, and it shall come
to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that
bear the ark of the Lord, Isn't it interesting how it has different
names? It's still the same ark. It's not a different ark. But
it's identified using different words, different terminology. The ark of the testimony, because
in it is the will of God. The demands of God are in there.
It's the ark of the covenant of the Lord, because that law
of God, that's what they promised to obey. And they didn't keep
their word. But I'll tell you this, God kept
His word to them. He roughed them up something
awful for their disobedience. And that's called the ark of
the Lord. The ark of the Lord. You see, That is the ark of Jehovah, our
Savior. Notice the spelling there in
verse 13. It's the ark of the LORD, in
all caps, then the LORD, capital L, lowercase o-r-d, of all the
earth, the master of all the earth. But who is he? He's Jehovah,
Savior. This is the ark of Jehovah, our
Savior. The one who is represented by
this ark is the only one who can save us. He's in that ark. God was in Christ, reconciling
the world unto Himself. He's in that ark. God our Savior. And then, go quickly to 1 Samuel
chapter 3. 1 Samuel chapter 3. Watch this, 1 Samuel chapter
3, it has another name. It's the Ark of the Testimony,
it's the Ark of the Covenant of God, it's the Ark of the Lord,
Jehovah our Savior, and now it's called the Ark of God. 1 Samuel
3, 3 and 4. This is when The lamp of God, verse three,
ere the lamp of God went out in the temple, in other words,
it's still night, where the ark of God was, Samuel was laid down
to sleep. And a voice came, and that voice
came forth from the ark, the ark of God. This is the ark of
Elohim. See, it's not, it doesn't say
the ark of the Lord in all caps, that's Jehovah's Savior. But
this time it says the ark of God, the ark of God. That's Elohim, that's the creator,
that's the sustainer. And that's who Christ Jesus is.
And the voice came, the voice that this young man heard came
out of the ark. It's who speaks to us for God? Christ Jesus speaks to us for
God. I've said it lots of times and
I'll continue to say it. God's not gonna speak to nor
be spoken to by any son or daughter of Adam except through a mediator. And here is a young man, Samuel. And a voice, a voice, it comes
out from where the ark of God is. The ark of the one who sustains
us. This is the one who speaks for
God. If God has something to say,
I want him to say it through a mediator, don't you? God's a consuming fire. I want
Him to deal with me through a third person. Here's God. Here's me. I need somebody. I need somebody
to stand between me and God. You understand that, don't you?
There's one God and one mediator between God and me and the man
Christ Jesus. Samuel! Samuel! Where'd the voice
come from? It's the ark of God, the sustainer
and the creator. He speaks. God speaks through
Christ. And then, my time's gone, but
if you're taking, keeping notes, you can look at this one, write
it down. 2 Chronicles 6, 41. It's called the Ark of God's
Strength. The Ark of Thy Strength. That
is the Ark of God's power. Who is the power of God? Christ
is. He's the power of God, and he's
the wisdom of God. He said to His disciples, go
ye into all the world and preach the gospel. All power has been
given unto me in heaven and in earth. I've got all power. You go therefore and preach the
truth. It's the ark of thy strength. That ark, that little box. Had a little box made of shit
and wood covered with gold with a solid gold lid on it, the mercy
seat. It speaks of our Savior who has
all power in heaven and earth to do God's will and to rescue
all those that God gave him in the covenant of grace. And I'll
give you another one, 2 Chronicles 35 and verse 3. It's called the
Holy Ark. It's called the Holy Ark. There's none holy but Christ
Jesus. When the archangel came to Mary,
he said, that holy thing that should be born of you shall be
called the Son of God. It's a holy ark. There's nobody
holy but Christ Jesus. And thank God he's our holiness.
Because 1 Corinthians chapter one says, Christ has been made
of God to be our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.
Christ is my wisdom, Christ is my righteousness, Christ is my
sanctification or holiness, and Christ is my redemption. And
according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory
in the Lord. And then this ark's got one more
name. Revelation 11, 19, it's called
the Ark of the Testament. The Ark of the Testament. I told
you this morning, the word testimony, which is very much akin to this,
means report or record. It's the Ark of God's report. It's the Ark of God's record. What is the record of God? It's
the record of salvation found in Christ Jesus only. This is
the Ark. The ark. And you know, it was
the assurance that God was with the people. How do we know God's
with us? Because we have Christ Jesus.
There's our assurance. We have Christ Jesus. The ark
was the glory of Israel. We have the glory of God with
us because all the glory of God's in Christ Jesus. We see God's
glory in him. And wherever the ark was in the
Old Testament, the enemy was conquered. I tell you, we're
more than conquerors through Him who loved us. I'll tell you
something else about that ark, and I'll quit. That ark had a
crown of gold around it. You know, crowns are for kings
to wear. That ark, that ark of the testimony,
the ark of God, All these that I've mentioned to you, it's for
the king. It tells us about the king, tells
us about the one who reigns, the one who governs, the one
who has gained the victory over all of our enemies, and he wears
the crown. Thank God there's a way to draw
near to the Father. And we draw near to Him through
Christ Jesus, who is the ark, the ark of the testimony.
