God brings 10 different plagues
upon, or judgments upon Israel, I mean upon Egypt, excuse me.
And here he brings the frogs. After that he brings the lice.
After that he brings a swarm of flies, or a swarm of noisome
beasts. And we see the plagues that's
been brought upon Egypt. The first one was turning the
water into blood. And that was a grievous, grievous
judgment, grievous flag. Not only did it take their water
away from them, but all the fish died. And that was the main source
of their food. And the Nile River was worshipped
by the Egyptians and the Lord took away their idol. Took away
their idol. Now here's the second flag. And
this one here is just like the rest of them. It's directed against
idolatry. You know the Egyptians are like
everybody else. They had lots and lots and lots
of idols. The frog was worshipped by the
Egyptians. And it would be impossible, like
the Romans, it would be impossible to list all the gods that the
Egyptians had. It would be impossible to. And all the gods, they were sacred
to this people. And they would look at something,
they think it being dwelt by a spirit. If they looked at a
frog, or a cow, or a bull, or a crocodile, they said that was
an idol. And they'd take an image of whatever
that idol they had, and they'd create an image, and save that
image, and keep that image. I know up the road up here there's
a congregation up the road up here I noticed it the other day
right outside their their building they got a little area there
and they got it all decorated up and I noticed they had a great
big idol sitting there about that tall sitting outside their
building they just well have it sitting
on the altar set it up there by the preacher it's habitat
but it's an idol and I tell you what they'd make idols depicted
of all these animals And that shows you the natural man, without
God, will worship anything. He will worship anything. And
you keep this and look over in Romans chapter 1. Without the
Spirit of God, without God teaching a man and doing something for
a man, I'm telling you what, he is an absolute fool. And I
tell you, men have always made idols. I'll tell you what, when
there's a cat and one of the greatest idols that Egypt had
was a cat. That's one of their greatest
idols. And they'd make idols all day out of all these animals.
And look what it says here in Romans 121. Now Moses had went
down there and said, this I'm the God of Hebrews, that I am,
that I am sent me down here. And because that when they knew
God, told about God, knew there was a God. They glorified him
not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations
and their foolish heart was darkened. professing themselves to be wise. Oh, we're wiser than everybody
else. We know what to God to do. We'll know what'll happen
to them. We know we're smarter than all these folks that worship
the Lord Jesus Christ, that worship God only and Christ only and
believe in the free and sovereign grace of God, that believe that
God rules and reigns in this world by himself. And oh my,
they became fools. And listen to this, and they
changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image, an image. made like to corruptible man.
We'll make us a man and we'll put him on a cross. That's what
we'll do. And we'll make pictures of him.
We'll make statues of him. We'll call them crucifixes. We'll
call them crosses. And we'll hang them around our
neck. We'll put them on our walls. And we'll put pictures up above
our bed to keep the evil spirits away. That's what we'll do. And
they changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image
made like to corruptible man and to birds, four-footed beasts
and creeping things. Well, what did God do? Gave them
up to this uncleanness through the lust of their own hearts
to the lust of their own bodies between themselves. And listen
to this, who changed the truth of God into a lie. took God's
truth and turned it around in a lie and worshiped and served
the creature more than the Creator who is blessed forever. Amen. And I tell you what, if it wasn't
for God's grace, if it wasn't for God's grace, we would be
in exactly the same boat. We would be in the same, we would
worship, we would worship anything other than Christ. And what if
we worshiped other than Christ? Oh, it'd be a horrible thing.
I can't imagine. I can't imagine not being without
Christ now. But beloved, we'd worship almost
anything if it wasn't for the grace of God. And we have been
revealed to us and God has taught us that the only way for us to
be accepted is in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him, in His atoning
blood, in His righteousness. Not frogs, not snakes, not birds,
not man, not creatures. Oh listen, I tell you what, we
find our sins forgiven and are cleansed by the blood of Christ
Himself. Not the church, not ceremonies.
This is what God said, this is the record that God hath given
to us, His eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Christ, we're complete in Him.
Christ is our life. And bless His holy name, He's
able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him.
And the only thing worse than worshiping a frog is for worship
a man himself. To set a man up and worship him.
And you know what the greatest idol of man has today in religion? And I make no apology for saying
it. Man has made an idol out of his
free will. That's the greatest idol that
he's got in his arsenal. That's the greatest idol that
preachers have in their arsenal. Man worships his free will above
anything in this world. Unless God does something for
him and in the day of his power makes his people willing. And
he's got to change your will, he's got to change your mind,
he's got to change your nature, he's got to change everything
about you. And he don't start on the outside,
he starts on the inside. And oh my, can you imagine the
awful plague to have these frogs in your house? You go to bed
and you got a bed full of frogs? That's what he said would happen,
they'll be in your bed. And you go to make some dough
and they're there and you're kneading stuff. Listen, you ladies
that make biscuits and things, how would you like to have a
bunch of dough going on and a bunch of frogs piled up on your dough?
And that's what he's talking about. Oh listen, they'll be
in your beds, they'll be in your houses, they'll be in your Newton's
Ross, wherever you go, there's gonna be frogs. And they're not
gonna be one or two of them, they're gonna be all over the
place. Frogs are ugly. And they're smelly. And oh my. And there was no place, no place
that they could go to escape from this flag. These frogs were all over the
land of Egypt. Got in their beds, dwelled in
their, the scourge, that's the scourge of worshipping anything
other than our Lord Jesus Christ. And you know the only place that
frogs are mentioned at in the New Testament? Anybody know where
it's at? We'll show you. Show you just
exactly what it talks about, Frogs. Revelation 16. Revelation
16, 13. Let's look at this together. Revelation 16, 13. This is what
Frogs means. Oh my, what an awful thing. You know, They're just they're just awful
and now I'm getting everything you've got And this shows us
if a man worships anything other than Christ what will happen
to him? but look here in verse 6 13 of Revelation 16 and I saw
three unclean spirits like frogs That's the first thing tells
us about frogs. They're unclean spirits and where they come from
out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast
and listen to this out of the mouth of the false prophet oh
my come from three places come from the devil out of the mouth of the beast
and out of the mouth of the false prophet uncleanness comes out
of him and that is what he is talking about this uncleanness
And all frogs are used to symbolize the power of evil and stands
for uncleanness. And this shows us how the devil
works, that all uncleanness comes from him. Every unclean thing. Oh, he says it comes from the
devil and all the things that he has to do. And he brings filth,
filth, filth into this world. And thank God for his grace.
Listen, I tell you what when a man starts down the filthy
unclean way, there's no stopping him. There's no stopping him
And verse 7 look down here in verse 7 see what happens now
This is amazing And the magicians did so frogs came up and covered
the land of Egypt and the magicians did so with their enchantments
and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt Now you think what? I'm going to tell you what I
think when I read that. They didn't have enough frogs without
them fellas making some more. That just shows you how Satan
can counterfeit things. They've got frogs everywhere.
So listen, we can do that too. So they make them a few frogs.
But one thing they can't do, they can't put them away. They
can't stop them. They can't cause them to cease
to be. They can't put them back in the
river. They can't stop them from getting out of their houses.
They can't keep them out of their beds. They can't keep them out
anywhere that they was. They can make more, but they
couldn't stop them. They couldn't make them quit.
And that's one thing Satan can do. He can imitate a lot of things.
And evil can come out of him. But there's unable to stop the
frogs. And what does this teach us? That the prince of this world,
he can't stop the progress of evil. All he can do is just multiply
it and multiply it and multiply it. He's always working to make
evil greater, making evil more worse, and making things worse
in this world. And oh, I wouldn't it, young
people. He read that tonight back in the study. out of Ecclesiastes
12 on remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth before the evil days come and
young people young people they start they start slow and when
they start down a path of evil start down a path of uncleanness
it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and then
it'll just roll on and on and all by And here's the thing,
people need to trust Christ when they're young. Have young, oh
my, turn to Christ while you're young. And if you don't know
and trust Him, believe me, you'll end up worshiping idols if Christ
don't do something for you. And look here at verse 8. And
Moab and Pharaoh called for Moses. And oh, he said, listen, ask
the Lord to take these frogs away from us. And then you can
go sacrifice under the Lord. Moses said, tell me when you
want it done and that'll be done. He told him tomorrow. Well, he
said, oh, so the Lord, he called on the Lord. And they went out of the villages.
And it said in verse 14, they gathered them together in eves,
and the Lord stank, and the land stank. But now watch what Pharaoh
did then. He said, oh, you all can go now.
But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, that he got surreptitious,
he got, all these things was taken away from him. You know
what he did? He hardened his heart, and he
hearkened not unto them, as the Lord had said. Oh, he ain't gonna
do nothing. He ain't going to do nothing.
That hard heart. Frogs disappeared. And he had
done told them, you can go. You know what this is? He says,
boy, I said, if you save me from these frogs, you go sacrifice
to the Lord. And that's what we call a battlefield
repentance. You know, a fellow gets in trouble,
he starts saying, Lord, if you'll save me from this and save me
from that, I'll serve you. If you let my baby live, I'll
go to church and I'll serve you. Unless God blesses a man, sanctifies
troubles to him, all the trouble is going to be is just trouble.
Just trouble. And there'll be no lasting effect.
There's this drunk one time and he got to thinking about his
life. He needed to make a change. He needed his life changed and
his wife was a believer. She said, will you pray for me?
She went to praying for him and said, Lord, help my poor, drunk
husband. And he said, no, wait a minute,
wait a minute. Just tell him I'm sick, don't
tell him I'm drunk. And that's the way people are.
You know, if God don't bless something to a man, an affliction
to a man, all he's gonna do is have affliction. I remember somebody
at a funeral one time, and the son had died, and they was having
the funeral. And the preacher said, he said,
oh my, if this son up here don't cause people to turn to the Lord,
I don't know what would. A person losing their son won't
cause anybody to turn to Christ. You know what causes a man to
turn to Christ? The Son of God causes you to turn to Christ. A tornado won't cause you to
turn to Christ. God by the Holy Spirit taught you to turn to
Christ. And that's what people think. They think if God will
bring a certain calamity on somebody, a certain amount of trouble on
them. There's no telling how many people
have made promises to the Lord today. Today, like Pharaoh did. You can go sacrifice to the Lord
like Pharaoh, but here they come along and they make all these
promises. If you'll do this, I'll do that. But when the thing
situation goes away, the promises is just like the sun. It just goes down. They forget
about it just as quick as they get out of trouble. Now here's
the second plague, and I'll do this one and then I'll be done.
There's one about the swarm of flies. I don't think I'll be
able to get to it. And on in verse 16, look what he said. The Lord said unto Moses, say
unto Aaron, stretch out thy rod, smite the dust of the land, that
it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. And they
did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand
with his rod, smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice
in man and in beast, all the dust of the land. became life
throughout all the land of Egypt. And the magicians did so with
their enchantments to bring forth life, but they could not. So there was life upon man and
beast. Then the magician said unto Pharaoh,
this is the finger of God. And Pharaoh's heart was hardened,
and he hearkened not unto them as the Lord had said. Water turned
into blood, frogs covered the land, He didn't go to tell Pharaoh
to let his people go this time. He never said, went up there
and said to Pharaoh, you need to let my people go. All God
done is said, you just smite the dust. Just smite the dust. And all that dust in Egypt turned
into lice. Lice. And oh, this is worse than
the first two. You know what? I've never had
lice. But I've seen people that have
had them. and to be covered with lice. And they're tiny. They're tiny. About a tenth of
an inch long. And you know how they live? They
get on you and they suck the blood out of you. And when they're
sucking the blood out of you, they secrete some kind of something
into your skin that keeps your blood from clotting and they
just suck, suck, suck until they get fat and fall off. And how would you like to be
covered with them things all over? And they sucking blood out of
you everywhere. I remember one time I was talking
about this. I went into some people's house
and they had some dogs. And they had fleas. Oh my goodness. I sat down in the house. I sat
down in the house like this here. And fleas just covered me up
to my knees. And I said, I said, oh my. I felt so unclean. I felt awful. I says, man, I got to get out
of here. I said, listen. He said, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
But I mean fleas. And I couldn't stand fleas. And oh my. And I tell you what,
and they'll feed till they burst. And when that, what they put
in you causes you inflammation and cause you to itch, itch,
itch, itch, itch. And oh my. So you can see what
a dreadful thing it is to be covered from head to foot by
these parasites. That's what they are. And I tell
you the worst thing that you can have In your heart, in your
life, in your body, in any place else. And that's sin. Oh, listen,
sin's a terrible thing. Sin's an awful thing. And these
lies, that would be bad. I remember my sister, a member
of our family got lies. And I didn't know it, and I was
up there, and she was going day and night trying to clean hair,
and wash hair, and clean people, and get them all straightened
up, trying to get rid of the lies. And it took days and all kinds
of treatments and stuff to kill him and get rid of him. And oh, he smoked the dust in
the dust. The dust became lice and just
fell all over everybody. Got all over the beast. And these Egyptians were proud
people, especially in the matter of cleanliness. And the priests,
they were so taken with cleanliness that every third day they'd shave
themselves. Shave themselves. For fear that
that has some kind of vermin on them and that they wouldn't
be able to do their sacred duties. And you know what that is? That's
a picture of the self-righteous man. Trying to clean himself
and shave himself and get rid of vermin. And he can't get rid
of his vermin. He can't cleanse himself. I tell
you, it'd be like somebody you know covered with all kinds of
lice and all that kind of stuff said, oh listen, I'm in such
good shape, I'm so pretty, I can go to God like this. Oh my. Self-righteous sinner. Oh, he's
worried about his outward acts and religious acts. And men think
they can get rid of the filth of their flesh, and the filth
of their mind, and the filth of their hearts, and the filth
they have towards God. And it can't be done. It just
can't be done. God's the only one. Listen, we became sinners through
another man. It's going to take another man
to get rid of our sin. And I remember, I was telling
Shirley the other day, I said, When we first started seeing
the gospel, first started seeing the grace of God, first started
learning about the grace of God, you look back and you realize
how self-righteous you were. I look back on my life and there
was nobody more self-righteous than me. And then folks start
hearing the gospel and they go out and be around their people
and be around friends and be on their work, jobs and stuff.
And they'd be talking and they'd say, was I that self-righteous
too? They didn't know anybody self-righteous
because they all was. And that's only one righteousness
that we got. I've heard these fellas, you
know, I heard a man say one time, You know, we've got the imputed
righteousness of Christ and the imparted righteousness. We've
got a righteous nature. And he said, you've got to be
careful. You walk this tightrope, and he says, you've got like
a bar, and if you go too far this way, you'll fall off. And if you go too far with your
own righteousness, you'll fall off this way. There's only one
thing wrong with that. We're not walking tightropes,
and there ain't but one righteousness. And the only righteousness we
have is the righteousness of Christ. I've got no righteous
of my own. I've never done a righteous act. If I have, God's caused it to
happen. I certainly don't know I've ever done it. You say, well, you're a preacher.
Oh, that just makes it worse. That just makes it worse. Oh,
listen. Oh, my. I'll tell you this shows
us man by nature, you know, and this is the source of this life.
It came out of the dust You know what? This means man's under
the curse And he come from dust and he's gonna go back to dust
and he's only dirt and he's gonna go back to dust no matter how
mighty he thinks he is and then look here in verse 18 19 and
And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth
lice they could not, so there was lice upon man and upon beast.
Now listen to this. Then the magicians said unto
Pharaoh, finally they had something to say to Pharaoh. This is the finger of God. We
can't do nothing with this. They had the knowledge that this
is God doing this now. He said, this is the finger of
God. Did it say the arm of God? Did
it say the power of God? He said, that's just the finger. Oh, the finger of God. And they
had to admit that the finger of God was more powerful than
all these men combined. By God's permission, they were
able to turn water into blood. By God's permission, they were
able to bring forth frogs. But when God withholds, they
could do nothing. Absolutely nothing. And when
it was all said and done, they had to admit that this was God. And they couldn't do nothing
to stop it. They couldn't do nothing to change
it. And they had to acknowledge it was God. And that's what's
going to happen one of these days. One of these days, every
human being on this earth, and has ever been on this earth,
You know what they're going to do? Including the devil himself.
They're going to acknowledge that God is God. And they're everyone going to
say, Hallelujah, the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. And I tell
you, they're going to admit to God's sovereignty over all things
in this universe. They're going to have to admit
it. They're going to have to own up to it. God will not only overcome
all of the opposers, but he's going to force them to admit
it publicly. And all the people that boast
of their free will today will acknowledge one of these days
that he's the only one that's got a will. That can control
everybody else's will. That he does according to his
will in armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the
earth. And they're going to find out it's the Lord Jesus Christ
that reigns supreme over everything. And everything that's ever had
breath in heaven, earth, the seas, and all the deep places.
He said death and hell is going to come out. And you know what
they're going to say? Jesus Christ is Lord. One Lord. One Lord in this world. It wasn't
me. It wasn't me. It wasn't my will. It wasn't my power. It wasn't
my rights. It wasn't my goods. It wasn't
my merit. It wasn't anything that I did. God gave him a name. And every
tongue is going to confess. Every tongue is going to confess. And they're going to do it before
the world. God went, listen. God's not gonna run a screen
in front of people and should, you know, just show them their
whole life. When they face Him, they're gonna know He knows everything. Open your mouth for something
besides cussing me. Open your mouth besides using
my name in vain. Open your mouth besides ignoring
me. Open your mouth at God that you
refuse to acknowledge. Open your mouth. What do you
want me to say? That Jesus Christ is Lord. And He'll have everyone open
their mouth. And you know why they'll do it? To the glory of
God. Yeah. I'm doing it now, ain't
you? I'm doing it now. Oh my. No man will ever again say God
is trying or if you'll let God, God will if you'll let him. That'll
never be said again. Never be said again. I'll deal
with the other ones next week. You know, there's a, see there's
the swarm of flies and there's a bunch of them. There's the
darkness, oh that darkness. Swarm of flies, the hailstones
and the fire. And this is one time, this is
one time they said, this is the finger of God, Pharaoh, not his
arm, this is a finger, just a finger.
