What does the Bible say about God's sovereignty?

The Bible teaches that God is absolutely sovereign over all creation, orchestrating everything according to His divine will (Genesis 41, Colossians 1:16-17).

God's sovereignty means that He has supreme authority and power over everything that exists, from the grandest events in history to the smallest details of individual lives. In Genesis 41, we see this exemplified in the life of Joseph, who was placed in power over Egypt precisely because God ordained it. Colossians 1:16-17 underscores this truth by stating that all things were created by Him and for Him, and in Him, all things consist. Thus, God’s sovereignty is not just a theological abstraction; it is a fundamental truth that shapes our understanding of His character and our relationship with Him.

Genesis 41, Colossians 1:16-17

How do we know God's sovereignty is true?

God's sovereignty is affirmed throughout Scripture, including the life of Joseph and the prophesies in Genesis (Genesis 45:5, Romans 8:28).

We can know God's sovereignty is true because it is consistently demonstrated through Scripture and the unfolding of His redemptive plan. In Genesis 45:5, Joseph states to his brothers, 'God did send me before you to preserve life,' indicating that even their malicious actions were under God's sovereign control for a greater purpose. Moreover, Romans 8:28 assures us that 'all things work together for good' for those who love Him, confirming that God's sovereignty governs every aspect of our lives for His glory and our ultimate benefit. This foundational truth reassures us in a world full of chaos and uncertainty.

Genesis 45:5, Romans 8:28

Why is understanding God's sovereignty important for Christians?

Understanding God's sovereignty is crucial for Christians as it assures us of His control and purpose in all circumstances (Philippians 4:6-7).

Understanding God's sovereignty helps us to grasp the full scope of His work in our lives and the world. It brings comfort amid trials and challenges by affirming that nothing occurs outside of God's plan. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us not to be anxious but to bring our concerns to God, who promises peace that surpasses understanding. Recognizing God's sovereignty enables us to trust Him more fully, knowing that He is orchestrating all things for His glory and our good, ultimately leading us to a deeper faith and reliance on His grace.

Philippians 4:6-7

How does God's sovereignty influence our daily lives?

God's sovereignty influences our daily lives by guiding our decisions and controlling events for His purpose (Proverbs 16:9).

God’s sovereignty has a profound impact on our daily lives as it assures us that He is involved in every aspect of our existence. Proverbs 16:9 states, 'The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps,' highlighting that while we may make plans, it is ultimately God who directs our paths. This understanding encourages believers to submit their plans to God in prayer, trusting that He will lead them according to His perfect will. As we navigate our lives, acknowledging God's sovereignty transforms our responses to various situations, instilling confidence that all things are under His control.

If you wish to follow along,
turn to Genesis chapter 41. Genesis chapter 41. Before I
read, I'll just read a few verses as my text this morning. My title
this morning for this message is bow the knee. Bow the knee. God's absolute
Sovereignty. Genesis chapter 41, let's begin
in verse 37. And the thing was good in the
eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants. Now the
thing that is good is that Joseph is going to take over this thing
of corn and need and supply. And Pharaoh said unto his servants,
can we find such a one as this, a man in whom the Spirit of God
is? And Pharaoh said unto Joseph,
for as much as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none
so discreet and wise as thou art. Thou shalt be over my house,
Now I want you to think about who this man was and what he
was bestowing upon this man Joseph. Thou shalt be over my house and
according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled. Only in the throne will I be
greater than thou. Pharaoh said unto Joseph C, I
have set thee over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh took off his
ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph's hand and arrayed
him in vestures of fine linen and put a gold chain about his
neck and made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. And they cried before him, bow
the knee. Do you see it? Bow the knee. And he made him ruler over all
the land of Egypt. Now in our text, and in the overall
context of Joseph's life, We have God's absolute sovereignty,
both illustrated, it's illustrated here, even in our text, but it's
illustrated throughout the whole context of Joseph's life. We see God's absolute sovereignty,
both illustrated, but we also see it exemplified. We see actual
examples of God Almighty's absolute sovereignty. I have a question. Is the subject of God's absolute
sovereignty important? It is absolutely important. Our Lord said these words, and
you could read them. I'm not gonna go back and read it, but
in John chapter 17, verses one through three, and I believe
it's in verse three, our Lord said these words, and this is
eternal life. Here it is. And this is eternal
life that they, that is the people God had given him to give eternal
life to, that's what he was praying. And this is eternal life that
they might know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom
thou hast sent. To have the wrong God means you
do not have eternal life. Now we have seen, as we've come
through the book of Genesis thus far, that now God is often termed
in this way, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God
of Jacob. If you don't have that God, if
you don't know that God, you do not have eternal life. Now just a couple things briefly
for correct doctrinal purposes Men do not come to know God then
get eternal life God gives eternal life and those who are given
eternal life will then in turn know the true and living God
In other words we are not saved by knowledge and but we are not
saved without knowledge either. It is absolutely important. As we see, the absolute sovereignty
of God is illustrated here in Pharaoh. Verse 37, and the thing
was good in Pharaoh's eyes. In that day and age, in this
time, that's all that mattered. Wasn't it? Now, yes, the servants
agreed, but you know why the servants agreed? Because Pharaoh
was pleased by the matter. Back then, if you went against
Pharaoh, he didn't have to take you to court. He just had your
head removed from your neck. And that's just the way it is.
We see it in verses 41 and 42, and Pharaoh said unto Joseph,
see, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt, and he gave
him tokens of this. In verse 42. That's the absolute
sovereignty of God illustrated. It's illustrated. We read of
this concerning our Lord Jesus Christ through the Apostle Paul
in Colossians chapter one. And I just wanna read a couple
verses. Now listen to what it says, Colossians chapter one,
verse 18 and 19. And this is speaking of Jesus
Christ. And he, this is Christ, and he
is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning. And that's where we started at,
didn't we? Way back there in the beginning. Who is the beginning,
whatever Mason that means. And whenever that actually was,
it was Jesus Christ. He is the head of the body, the
church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things he might have the preeminence. Why? And then Paul answers it
very clearly. For it pleased the Father. that
in him should all fullness dwell. I remember years ago Henry Mahan
making this statement. You remember the account of Mordecai,
the account of Esther? And the king was going to, through
Haman was it not, was going to wipe out the Jews. Ended up the
Jew that he despised the most The king set Mordecai on his
horse, his white horse, to ride in open banqueting before all
the people. And Henry said, why should Mordecai
ride the king's horse? Here's the only reason why, because
the king said so. because the king said so. But
do you see the absolute sovereignty of God also exemplified here? Here now is Joseph being given
Pharaoh's ring, fine linen, and pure gold about his neck, and
being put over all the land of Egypt, and that's exactly what
God had ordained to be done before the foundation of the world. So we see not only the sovereignty
of God illustrated here in Pharaoh, we see it exemplified in Pharaoh. God purposed it. God purposed
this very act. This thing took place some 5,
6,000 years ago, whenever it was, Joe. And God purposed every
single event before the world even was. And God controlled
everything up to this point and everything at this point for
this particular purpose. And God manipulated everybody
else around. He manipulated, and that's right. Somebody said, I don't like that
word with God. That's just too bad. Because God, well look,
God manipulated men and women to bring this event to pass. And then God actually brought
it all to pass. So much so that in chapter 45
and verse five, we read these words. Chapter 45 and verse five,
and we've already looked at this, but look, now therefore be not
grieved. This is Joseph talking to his
brethren. Remember, they just found out who he really was.
Can you imagine the shock? Can you imagine the utter fear? They knew what they'd done unto
him. And here he is, Pharaoh's right-hand
man, we might say. Now therefore be not grieved
nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me thither. Remember,
they first sought to kill him. God manipulated Judah and kept
that from happening. Why? Because God's sovereign
purpose will be fulfilled. Somebody says, oh, men are just
totally fighting against God. Yes, they are in here. But even
when men fight against God, they are but accomplishing the sovereign
purpose of God. Look, that ye sold me hither,
for God did send me before you. Do you see that? God did send
me. God did send me before you to
preserve life. And right at the end, when their
father has died, when finally Jacob has died, the brothers
say, uh-oh, daddy's gone. Now Joseph may well retaliate. You know what he said? He said
concerning his brother's evil, you meant it for evil. But God,
and here's the word he used, but God meant it for good. I am saying those who preach
the only true and living God must preach, if they are preaching
the only true and living God, that God is absolutely sovereign. He is sovereign over everything. From the greatest cataclysmic
events in the universe to a speck of dust that floats in the air
through the sunbeam. He ordains and controls and manipulates,
Joe, it all. You may not have seen it, but
there's dust floating here. And that dust was just floating,
so I blowed on it, Joe. God ordained before the world
began that at this moment, I turned around and moved that dust right
toward Jack and Ellen. He said, I don't believe that,
then you don't believe the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob. God brought it to pass. Now consider this. This will
be another illustration and then we're gonna look at examples.
This is another illustration. Consider the second chariot. I hope maybe all of you have
read through the book of Genesis and especially the life of Joseph
here recently. And I wonder if you were like
me, I read that and I thought uh-oh, is there anything there? Oh yeah. There's something there. A second chariot. Isn't that
a redundancy? Isn't that a redundancy? A second
chariot. Absolute sovereignty, isn't that a redundancy? You
see, if someone is sovereign, then you really shouldn't have
to say they're absolutely sovereign. It's like saying that water right
here is wet. Duh, or it can't be water. When it's frozen, Mason, we no
longer call it water. What do we call it? We call it
ice. Now, pardon me for taking a drink
of that wet water. Men say, why do you have to say
absolute sovereignty? Because men hate God so much. They'll agree to sovereignty
to an extent. but they will not bow the knee
to God in absolute sovereignty. And generally, we will allow
all the sovereignty of God that could possibly exist as long
as it personally benefits me. If God has me in his good favor,
I want all the sovereignty I can get. But what if God then turns
his ire toward me? Well, that just can't be. And you know why that is? Because
we really think we deserve God's favor. That's how depraved we
are by nature. A redundancy, yes it is. Why
did not Pharaoh just put Joseph in his own chariot? I'll tell
you why. Because everybody that would
have bowed, when one chariot come through, Joe, and they bowed,
here's Pharaoh and here's Joseph, and everybody bowed, what would
everybody say? Well, they're bowing to Pharaoh.
Joseph could be just a guest. Do you see what I'm saying? This
second chariot seems to be a redundancy, but it's not. It has a purpose. I guarantee you when the first
chariot came through with old Pharaoh in it, people did what?
They bowed the knee. But at best, when that second
chariot came through, they didn't just clap. Mason, they stayed
down on their faces because they were made to acknowledge this
man stands at my right hand. Do you see that? Do you see why? Mac, even the second chariot
was needful. Because Pharaoh was going to
let everyone know you will bow the knee to him just like you
bow the knee to me. And I'm here to declare this
morning that if you have not bowed to the Lord Jesus Christ,
you have not bowed to God Almighty. Because he indeed is God Almighty. What a redundancy. Absolute sovereignty. That's what Scott Richardson
said years ago. That's what made me think of
the illustration. He said we talk about free sovereign grace.
He said that's like calling water wet. He said but we're so rebellious
that we have to be told over and over and over again that
God's sovereignty is absolute. There is no such thing as partial
sovereignty. There are those that are saying
today God's mostly sovereign. They are. And there are those
who are using, people I would have never thought would have
used the word sovereignty. It's become a really popular
phrase concerning God now. But the God they're talking about,
you don't listen to him. But if you did listen to him,
you'll hear this. What you'll really hear is this. God is mostly
sovereign at best. But the truth of this book is
this. God is either absolutely sovereign
or he is not sovereign at all. This is quite clear from the
actual text. Bow the knee. Joseph was not
a guest in Pharaoh's chariot. Joseph was in the second chariot. and you bowed the knee to the
second chariot, just like you bowed the knee to the first chariot,
to make sure there is no misunderstanding, Joseph stands as high as Pharaoh
himself. You need something from Pharaoh,
to whom do you go? You don't approach Pharaoh. You
go to Joseph. Now, Go back to Colossians chapter
one and let's read the rest of the context of what that said. What the Apostle Paul wrote under
inspiration of the Spirit of God. Colossians chapter one,
he's talking, he's praying here, this is actually a prayer. But
he puts it this way in verse 13, talking of God the Father
in Colossians one, who hath delivered us from the power of darkness
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. You see, the old Jews had no
problem with the kingdom of God. They just had a problem with
who was the king in the kingdom of God. That was the problem
they had. And that's the problem we by
nature have today. Men don't mind the kingdom of
God, as long as they think you get your bellies full. clothes
on their back, roof over their head, nice piece of land to live
on, nice job to help me get through, but they don't want the king
who says, I am the bread of life. They don't want that. Look, who
hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated
us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption
through his blood, and then, the even's okay, but no, this
is an explanation of redemption through his blood. The forgiveness
of sins. You see, when he shed his blood,
and he only shed his blood once, when he shed his blood, forgiveness
of sins was accomplished. Accomplished, and let's look
at who It was, it accomplished this redemption, this forgiveness
of sin, who is the image of the invisible God. The firstborn
of every creature, for by him were all things created that
are in heaven, that are in earth, whether you can see them or you
can't see them. visible or invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers, and that takes the whole plethora
from evil to good. From evil to good. I mean look,
all things were created by him and for him. And he is before all things. And by him all things are what? Held together. They consist. And he is the head
of the body. Do you see it? Do you see it?
Why is Joseph in the second chariot? Because Pharaoh said so. Because
Pharaoh said so. And the reason men don't want
Christ to reign over them is because they hate the reigning
God. They hate the reigning God. There are so many illustrations,
but I want to consider eight actual examples of God's absolute
sovereignty. And as I give these things, I
won't be able to show all the connections, and there are far
more than eight. We only have a limited amount
of time today. But I want us to consider eight
actual examples of God's absolute sovereignty, and all of them
are connected together. Roy Jr., if one of them was to
have failed, the whole thing would have come crumbling down
to nothing. To nothing. And you know what
I thought about? I thought about first giving
a definition of absolute sovereignty. And there's nothing wrong with
that. Don't get me wrong. But you know what? Examples are
far better than definitions. You know what I mean? Examples
are far better than definitions. God's, God, Here are these eight
things. God is absolutely sovereign even
in men's dreams. Just think about that for a moment.
I'm not gonna try to wax theological and eloquent here. But God is
absolutely sovereign even in men's dreams. You remember the
first two original dreams? Who dreamed them? Joseph did.
That didn't pop out of a hat. That was God Almighty showing
Joseph what was going to come to pass. And when Joseph passed
it on to his brothers, they didn't like it at all. God is absolutely
sovereign even over men's dreams. You remember a butler and a baker?
They actually were Pharaoh's top butler and top baker. They
got in trouble. And when you're in trouble with
Pharaoh, bless God you're in trouble. And they both dreamed
dreams. Very similar dreams. And it troubled
them. One of them, though he didn't
know it, had reason, real reason to be troubled by his dream.
Well, nobody could interpret, but guess what? Joseph happened
to be right in the midst here. He said, I'll tell you what this
means. And he told him what it meant, and guess what? I want
you to, I wanna turn and read it. Turn to chapter 40, I believe
it is. Let me look and make sure this,
yeah, chapter 40 and verse five. Let's talk about this butler
and this baker. And they dreamed a dream, both of them, Each man
his dream in one night, what a coincidence. No, no, this is
the absolutely sovereign God at work here. In one night each,
now notice, notice how it says it. Each man according to the
interpretation of his dream. We read dreams and then we go
look for the interpretation. God is telling us that the interpretation
existed first. Do you see what that just said?
They dreamed according to the, now they didn't know what the
interpretation was yet. Nobody did. But the absolute
sovereign God. You see it? And think about this.
Both these men dreamed dreams. One of them was restored. The
other one lost his head. God Almighty is absolutely sovereign,
even when our dreams affect our very physical existence in this
world. Do you hear what I'm saying?
One of them lost his head, the other one was restored to his
place, and God Almighty determined which was which. Isn't that amazing? And Pharaoh, right around the same time, had
two dreams himself. Joseph is on the scene. Now I want you to think about
this. Somebody says, well preacher, what do my dreams mean? I'll
tell you exactly what your dreams mean. Here's what your dreams
mean. I'll give you the interpretation
of your dream. You're an absolutely corrupt, filthy wretch in God's
sight. I've just given you, it probably
took Freud years to learn all that, and I've just given to
you that in just a few words. How many of us, even when we
dreamed that we're somebody else, was it always about us? I mean, I know I don't know all
the dreams of the world. I've even had dreams where I
was preaching the gospel, Joe, and it was still all about me.
You ever had a dream like that? No, all of our dreams are like
that, unless God Almighty manipulates us for some other reason. You
hear what I'm saying? I mean, I had the dream one time
that I killed Elvis Presley and buried him in the leaves in the
woods. And I woke up in a cold sweat. Now we laugh, and I mean
for us to laugh, but Joe in that dream, it was real. And I was
doing everything I could to keep it hid from the rest of the world,
because I knew if they knew I killed Elvis, I'm a goner. But you know what that shows
me? How wicked and corrupt I am by nature. And Joe, had God not
manipulated these men's dreams, it would have been just another
dream like anybody else's dream. Do you hear what I'm saying?
That's number one. Here's number two. God is absolutely
sovereign even in unbelievers' actions concerning believers'
circumstances, whether they be good or evil. Chapter 37, verse
28. Then there passed by Midianites,
merchantmen, and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit
and sold him. What a coincidence. No. This is the absolutely sovereign
God. Look at verse chapter, or let
me look, chapter 39, I'm sorry. And look at just a couple verses
here, verse one. And Joseph was brought down to
Egypt. Coincidence? No, the absolute
sovereignty of God. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh,
captain of the guard of the Egyptian, he bought him. And then his wife
lied about Joseph and he ended up in jail. Well, that's exactly
what God had ordained to take place. Was it not? So that a
butler and a baker and a Pharaoh would all have dreams. Do you
see it all connect? Even in these seemingly very
random acts, Look at verse seven. And it came
to pass after these things that his master's wife cast her eyes
upon Joseph. And she said, lie with me. But listen, God had a place to
put Joseph. And God used what means he was
pleased to use to put Joseph in that place. Do you ever, we
never, I don't know what happened to Potiphar's wife. I have no
idea. And neither do you. But I do
know this, we never find, when Joseph became top dog, that he
ever retaliated against anybody. Now you talking about forgiveness.
You talking about some grace and mercy, David Wright? That's
our Lord Jesus Christ. People hear us talking about
election and predestination and they get angry. You better hope
that God Almighty elected and purposed, predestinated to forgive
somebody else none of us will be forgiven. Thank God our God
is plenteous in mercy. He delights in showing mercy. Now if you don't need mercy then
that means nothing to you. But if you know you're a butler,
a baker, a potifier's wife, then you know when that man hits the
throne, Joe, I need mercy. I need mercy. Look at chapter,
no, we could go on. Let's just stop. Even unbelievers'
actions concerning believers' circumstances, good or bad, They're
all ordained and controlled by the absolutely sovereign God.
You cannot escape that in the life of Joseph unless you just
bury your head in the sand. And the whole time you cut your
head buried in the sand, each grain of sand around your head
reeks with pride and rebellion against God. Number three, God
is absolutely sovereign even over all nature. Fat years. The wheat, they wrote core, they
translated it, it's wheat. Fat years, but fat years only
in Egypt. Think about that. Lean years,
lean years everywhere. Even in Egypt. This is the absolutely
sovereign God. He can say to the wind that's
storming in a hurricane, peace. Be still. And immediately there
will be a great, a great calm. Why? Because it has no other
opportunity, no other choice, no other option, because this
is the absolutely sovereign God. Think about how many people probably
perished in this ordeal. I mean, the famine was everywhere. The only place there was great
fat years was in Egypt, and there happened to be a man named Joseph
who knew what to do. Isn't that amazing? God is number
four. God is absolutely sovereign over
one person as opposed to another. I've already mentioned the butler
and the baker. Chapter 40, and let's just read
it so we'll get it. Chapter 40, and I hope these
are correct. Oh yes, it is. Chapter 40, verse
20. And it came to pass, the third day, which was Pharaoh's
birthday. Not a good day to get on Pharaoh's
bad side, is it? Pharaoh's birthday, that he made
a feast unto all his servants, and he lifted up the head of
the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. And
he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again, and
he gave the cup unto Pharaoh's hand, but he hanged the chief
baker as Joseph had interpreted to them. You see it? God Almighty was absolutely sovereign. Why weren't both spared? Why
weren't both killed? Because God said so. Because
God said so. We know why the butler was restored,
don't we? Read the rest of the account.
But even after the butler's restored, what's he do? He immediately
forgets Joseph. But he's not gonna be able to
forget him forever. Because the butler ain't in charge. Pharaoh
ain't in charge. The absolutely sovereign God
is in absolute sovereign charge. Number five, as we've just seen,
God is absolutely sovereign even over men's forgetfulness. For
it says, and it came to pass at the end of two full years.
What if he remembered Joseph too early? You see how it all
fits. Chapter four, and it came to
pass at the end of two full years that Pharaoh dreamed and behold
he stood by the river. And now he gets this dream of
what's going to come to pass. But he don't know what it is.
Here's number six. God is absolutely sovereign even
over demoniac powers. The magicians, according to 41
in verse eight, could not tell Pharaoh what his dream meant.
That's right. Exactly. Jack Mattis couldn't
have God give them Pharaohs the same insight that he did Joseph?
He could have. Yeah. But he did not. You see,
this is what men do not understand. God Almighty is in absolute sovereign
control, even over Satan and all his minions, and every false
prophet, and every false preacher, and every apostate that ever
walked the face of the earth. The devil couldn't touch Job,
lest God give him say so. And the devils, remember those
devils that were in this one man? And Christ said, he came,
and they knew what was coming down the pike. They knew, because
Mason, even the devils have more smarts than men do by nature. They said, we know who you are.
You're the son of God. Are you come to torment us before
our time? They said, give us leave to go
into the herd of swine. It wasn't up to them, Joe. God Almighty is absolutely sovereign
even over the most wicked reprobates that walk the face of this earth. Somebody says, I don't believe
that God, then you don't know the true and the living God. But God's absolute sovereignty
extends even to bowing down to Christ. Did you know that's actually
taught in the book of Genesis? Turn to, well, first of all,
let me give you this. First of all, here's number seven.
Remember, God's absolute sovereignty extends to bowing down to Jesus
Christ. It means bowing down even in
natural life. You see, whether you bow to Jesus Christ or not,
he is your sovereign Lord. The scripture connects salvation
with confessing him to be Lord, not whether he's Lord or not.
The scripture confesses being saved, to confess that thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. But he's Lord, and he's raised from the dead, whether
you confess it and believe it or not. Get it? But it's even in natural life.
Go back and look at chapter 41, verses 55, 56, 57, you'll see
that. Go back and look at chapter 43,
verse 28, you'll see that God Almighty has control even over
men's natural lives. The apostle Paul preached in
one time, put it this way. In him, that is even in Christ,
we live, and move and have our being. But even more than that,
it means even bowing to Christ as Lord. And it was prophesied
by Joseph's father hundreds of years ago. Look at chapter 49.
49, verse one, and Jacob called his
sons and said, gather yourselves together that I may tell you
Somebody said, but that's Jacob speaking. Yeah, but Jacob is
speaking for God. And when God sends a man to speak
for him, you best listen to every word he says. Don't disdain God's ordained
means. Paul told the Corinthians as
though God did beseech you by us. Is that not what he said?
Jacob said gather yourselves together that I may tell you
that which felt shall befall you in your last days Is that
what that says? No, it says in the last days
Jacob was not prophesying what was going to happen at the end
of these 12 boys lives Jacob was prophesying what's
going to happen to God's people and all that they are, even right
up to the last, what? The last days. The New Testament
scripture's quite clear. We are in the last days. And what did he prophesy? Look
at verse 10. Talking about Judah. The scepter
shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver between his feet. Now Judah himself was dead long
before this happened. Do you get the drift here? The
scepter shall not depart from Judah nor lawgiver from between
his feet until peace come. But this peace is given a name.
Shallow. Shallow. And men say well, they
really act like Jacob was just up there in some kind of trance
saying words and had no idea what he's talking about. I believe
he understood exactly what he was talking about. I believe
he knew exactly what he, I believe he knew who he was talking about.
He didn't know his name as Jesus of Nazareth. He knew him as who?
Shiloh. Shiloh. And look, look. And unto
him shall the gathering of the people be. You see that? They gonna bow. You know what
he's saying? That's what he's saying, Mason. The people, what
people? God's people. And to him shall
the gathering of the people be. Look what he says about Joseph
in verse 24. But his bow abode in strength,
and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the
mighty God of Jacob. And look, from thence is the
shepherd, the stone of Israel. You see, now Joe, now I'll say
what you was gonna say to me. Jacob knew him cause he'd wrestled
with him here a while back. You see? You see? Don't ever think these Old Testament
believers were a bunch of bunch of just a bunch of idiots walking
around killing a few lambs and shedding some blood and roasting
them. They had some idea of who was
coming. They had some, even Adam and
Eve looked for that seed to come. And he's come. And Joe, he's
the mighty God. The everlasting father. The prince
of peace. The government shall be upon
his shoulders and of his kingdom, there shall be. It ain't gonna
be a thousand years. And of his kingdom, there shall
be no end. You see, this is the God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob. Any less, he is not God at all. Now, Joe, you could put a whole
lot more to this than I've given you, but you drop any of this,
you lose it all. You hear what I'm saying? You
drop any of it. You could add everything else
I haven't mentioned right into the mix, but you can't start
dropping off parts. Because when you drop off one
part, you got no part at all. And thus Paul, and I'm just gonna
read this, and then we'll have a song in closing. Turn to 2
Thessalonians chapter one. The apostle Paul put it this
way. 2 Thessalonians chapter one. And to you who are troubled,
and let me say, for any reason. You know what I'm saying? People have, there's commentaries
that actually argue about what the trouble is. You know, it's
like, come on. Mac, if the trouble were a particular
trouble and no other trouble mattered, he'd have told us what
the trouble was. You understand? And to you who
are troubled, rest with us. Don't just rest. Oh, I believe
in Jesus, but I'll be my own person. I'll go do my own. No,
you better rest with God's people or you ain't resting at all.
Rest with us when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven
with his mighty angels in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them
that, what's it say? No, not God, and that obey not
the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why? Because it pleased
the Father. to have it this way. All right,
let's stand in scene number eight in the folder. Elder, would you
play through one verse for us?
