If all you've got is dry, dead churchism, you don't have much. We want to experience God! We want to be able to say, "my God is real"!

This past Sunday, Pastor Kent W. Clark shared with us his experiences growing up, how he would experience God in the most random moments; he would feel a calling to preach the Gospel. But when he attended seminary, there was a general deadness; he would preach at many Churches across the country, but not many of those Churches he visited were alive, filled with the Holy Spirit.

Here at Grace Gospel Fellowship, we can't deny how present God is, in our Church, in our community, and in our city. We've seen the miracles, we can look back at what He has done, where we've come from, how lives have changed, how communities have been restored, and how the city is turning around; at the center of everything, we know that God is at work.

There is a real awakening taking place, and we are so blessed to be a part of it!

What we do here is, we say to God, "You are welcome here. Come and take over this place! Move into our hearts and lives, make yourself known. Here's what we promise you, we will give you all the honor and praise".

In Kent Clark's sermon titled "God, You Are Welcome Here," the main theological topic addressed is the pursuit of experiencing God's tangible presence in believers' lives, which contrasts sharply with a life marked by spiritual deadness. Clark reflects on his personal journey of faith, highlighting the emptiness often found in traditional church settings and his longing for a vibrant spiritual awakening, underscored by his experiences of divine communication and revelation. He cites the scriptural promise of God's presence found in Matthew 18:20 ("For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them") as a foundation for his invitation to God to manifest among His people. The sermon emphasizes the practical importance of actively seeking God's presence, not merely through theological knowledge, but through heartfelt worship and communal faith experiences, which ultimately can lead to revival and transformation in both the church and broader community.

What does the Bible say about experiencing God?

The Bible encourages believers to seek a real and personal relationship with God, longing for His presence in their lives.

Experiencing God is a theme that resonates throughout Scripture, emphasizing the importance of a personal and vibrant relationship with Him. The Psalms are filled with cries for God's presence, showcasing a deep yearning for connection. In John 10:27, Jesus states, 'My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me,' highlighting the closeness that believers can have with Him. Living in a world marked by spiritual deadness, it is vital for Christians to seek the Holy Spirit's power actively and to express a deep desire for God's visitation in their lives. This pursuit is not merely about emotion but rooted in a desire for genuine transformation and eternal communion with our Creator.

John 10:27, Psalms

How do we know God's presence is real?

God's presence is validated through personal experiences, the testimony of congregations, and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.

The reality of God's presence can be known through personal experiences that believers recount, reflecting moments of felt divine interaction in their lives. The historical accounts of revival, such as those celebrated in the ministry of figures like the Wesley brothers or Spurgeon, provide testimony to God's active presence among His people. Additionally, the transformative impact seen in the communities around grace-filled congregations—where lives are changed, hope is restored, and miracles happen—demonstrates God’s tangible activity. In a culture often marked by despair, the presence of the Holy Spirit is vital for igniting revival, stirring hearts to long for more than mere religious formalism.

Ephesians 2:22

Why is seeking God’s presence important for Christians?

Seeking God's presence is crucial as it leads to spiritual awakening and life transformation, empowering believers to fulfill God's purposes.

For Christians, seeking God's presence is essential for spiritual vitality and growth. The act of inviting God into our lives cultivates an environment where the Holy Spirit can operate freely, leading to awakening and transformation. As seen in the Apostle Paul's writings, particularly in Ephesians 3:16-19, knowing the love of Christ and being filled with all the fullness of God brings depth to a believer’s walk. Christians are not called to live in a mere state of religious observance but to actively seek God, experiencing Him in profound ways. As the church flourishes in His presence, it impacts the community positively, leading to revival that not only changes individuals but also the culture around them.

You know, when I was a young
boy, I was converted at eight years old, but when I was a young
boy, I began to read about God visitations here in America. I read about the Wesley brothers
and Whitfield and Spurgeon and so many others that experienced
God. Listen, if all you got is dry,
dead churchism, you don't have much. I want to experience God. I want to be able to say my God
is real. I don't want to offend him. So early on, I began to feel
that God had called me to preach. I think I probably knew that
by the time I was 15. I had experiences with God at
the oddest times. I can remember once I was going
on a date, sorry Miss Pam, but I was 16 years old and I was
taking a shower and I remember sensing God speak to me. I can
remember being on the football field at Lincoln High School
in a four-plant stance with a few hundred people in the stands
and God speak to me about preaching the gospel. I was experiencing
God. And then at 18, I left and went
to the cemetery, seminary. There's no death like being in
seminary. They're always talking about
God. There I learned, I tried to learn a little Greek and a
little Hebrew. And now I know a little Greek. He runs a Greek restaurant and
a little Hebrew runs a cleaning, cleaners. But at any rate, it
didn't get better. in seminary, things got really
worse. There was a general, what I would
call a deadness. I was blessed of God to have
opportunities to preach all across this country. innumerable churches
I preached in and I cannot remember going into a church that I could
say was alive and desperately the Holy Spirit was there in
power. You know the truth is that the
only spirit that can deal with the spirit of this age is the
Holy Spirit. I would come back from preaching
at churches on Sunday evening late at night and go up to that
little room, a widow lady, Miss Scott, owned the house, and I
rented that room for $25 a month. And me and Hoffman, the rent,
the rat, there was a big rat in my room. He and I shared that
little room. But I can remember oftentimes
lying on the floor with my hands pounding the floor and saying,
there's got to be more than this. I want to experience God. Do
you think about where we are? We're in downtown Pontiac. This
place has been bankrupt since I've been here for 33 years.
This whole city is turning around. I saw in the Detroit News this
week, an article about Pontiac revival. It wasn't talking about
a spiritual revival, but a business revival that's taking place. The silver dome is gone and a
huge monstrous business is moving in. There's some great things
happening. And I'm going to tell you, nobody
did that but God. And I'm gonna tell you something
else. I believe little old grace gospel fellowship had something
to do with that. We've seen the miracles here.
Look at us sitting in this saloon, praising God. Look at what's
happening all around us. Think about, I've never been
in a church that owned 52 houses in a city. Where people are getting
married and getting their children back and wonderful, happy things
are happening. Where you're getting your life
back. Where once you sought a high through a chemical, now you know
there's no high like the most high. Here's what I've noticed
over 75 years. I've been praying for awakening.
And you know what I realized yesterday? Kent, you're in one. Do you think all that stuff happens
without me? God said that to me. You think
all of that happens without my presence? So what we do here
is we say to him, you are welcome here. In fact, come and take
over this place. Move into our hearts and lives. Make yourself known. And here's
what we promise you. We will give you all the glory
and praise. You know what I believe? I believe
this. I want to give hell more trouble
than hell gives me.
