Faith, belief, really trusting, believing, having faith in God; faith is the way that we receive God's power!

God is all around us, and He is able and powerful enough to do all things!

Many of us can get hung up when things don't go our way. We may walk around in fear, anger, and bitterness, all the while God has been good; He's been working, protecting, and guiding us, but we don't see it!

We don't experience His joy because we don't see Him, we don't have faith.

This past Wednesday, guest pastor, Darin Weiss, dove into the topic of faith, and what it's all about!

In this highlight, he gives some examples as to what faith is, and why it's so important!

God has an incredible living message for us. But in order for us to receive it, in order for us to experience it, we have to have faith!

Here's a highlight from our Wednesday service!

Darin Weiss's sermon, "Why Is Faith So Important?" addresses the vital role of faith in the life of a believer as a means of receiving God's power and grace. Weiss argues that faith serves as a necessary conduit for experiencing the fullness of God's blessings, likening it to a mouth that allows one to enjoy food or a bank that receives wealth. He emphasizes that God's existence and capability do not automatically translate to the believer's experience of His goodness—this experience requires active faith. Key Scripture references hint at faith’s transformative power, suggesting that without it, one may struggle with fear and bitterness despite God's ongoing goodness. The practical significance of this teaching is that believers must cultivate faith in order to truly connect with and experience the life and joy that God offers.

Key Quotes

“Faith is like my mouth. It's the receptive way that you're able to receive God.”

“In order for you to actually live in it is to believe in it, to trust it, to have it, to hold it in your heart.”

“God does have an incredible living message for you. But in order for you to receive it, in order for you to experience it, you have to have faith.”

“You can still walk around in fear, and anger and bitterness, all the while God has been good.”

What does the Bible say about faith?

The Bible emphasizes the importance of faith as the means by which we receive God's grace and power.

Scripture reveals that faith is crucial in the life of a believer, as it serves as the channel through which we receive God's grace and blessings. For instance, Ephesians 2:8-9 states that we are saved by grace through faith, underscoring that faith is not just a mere belief but a trust that connects us to God's promises. This faith is not something we generate in ourselves, but is a gift from God, enabling us to embrace the fullness of what He offers.

Moreover, faith acts as the necessary vehicle by which we access spiritual treasures, as illustrated in the analogy of having a bank account to hold great wealth. Without faith, we are unable to engage with the great spiritual riches that God has in store for us, leading to a life lacking in the joy and peace that comes from knowing Him. This connection between faith and experience is highlighted throughout the New Testament, where believers are called to trust in God's goodness even in challenging circumstances.

Ephesians 2:8-9

How do we know faith is true?

Faith is validated by the promises of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in believers' lives.

The truth of faith is anchored in the reliability of God's promises and His faithfulness throughout history. As believers, we see evidences of faith's validity through transformative experiences in our lives, marked by growth in holiness, resilience during trials, and an increasing understanding of the Scriptures. Romans 10:17 affirms that faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ, reminding us that our faith is built upon a firm foundation of God's revealed truth.

Additionally, the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts affirms the reality of our faith. The Holy Spirit not only convicts us of our sin but also assures us of our standing before God, producing in us the fruit of faith-filled living. The changes in our attitudes and desires reflect the genuine nature of faith, confirming that it is more than a fleeting sentiment but a profound trust anchored in God's character and His salvation plan.

Romans 10:17

Why is faith important for Christians?

Faith is essential for experiencing and living out the fullness of God's promises in our lives.

Faith holds a central place in the Christian life as it enables believers to experience the goodness and power of God. Without faith, individuals may walk in fear and doubt, missing out on the joy and assurance that comes from fully trusting in God's capabilities and promises. Hebrews 11:6 explicitly states that without faith, it is impossible to please God, indicating that faith is not merely beneficial but essential to our relationship with Him.

Moreover, faith serves as the means through which we are united with Christ and partake in the blessings of salvation. It allows us to affirm God's sovereignty and goodness, providing the assurance needed to navigate life's challenges. Faith enables us to connect with God, similar to how a device connects to the internet; without it, no communication or growth can occur. Therefore, cultivating a robust faith is fundamental for spiritual development and experiencing the abundant life that Christ promises.

You may be in this situation
now where you're going, I don't understand why he doesn't just
do it. Like, why does he require me to believe? Like, why is faith
so important? Faith, belief, like really trusting,
believing, having faith in God, it's the receptive Faith is the
way that you receive God's power. A lot of you guys know, I feel
like probably every time I speak, I talk about a Reese's Peanut
Butter Cup. And so today will be no different, especially given
that it was Halloween and I've had a thousand in the last week.
But seriously, or kind of seriously, a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup,
right, is this joyful, beautiful, grand, right, piece of food, let's say, that
has all of the wonder, like all this substance and joy is in
the Reese's peanut butter cup. But if I don't have a mouth,
I can't enjoy it. You get what I mean? Like I actually
have to eat it. I have to be able to taste it
in order to have all of its joy. And faith is like my mouth. It's the receptive way that you're
able to receive God. It'd be sort of like me saying,
hey, I've got $10 billion to give you. And if I was going
to give it to you, I'd say, where are you going to put it? In order
for you to actually receive that, you need a bank to put that in. The bank has no worth in and
of itself. All of the treasure is in the
cash. But you need a way to actually receive it, to hold on to it,
to have it, to make it yours. And that bank doesn't have any
of the treasure, but that bank is faith. It's the way that you
actually are able to receive the treasure of God. In order
for you to actually live in it is to believe in it, to trust
it, to have it, to hold it in your heart. Be sort of like connecting
your, you know, you could come in here and there's Wi-Fi in
here, and you could have a computer in here, but unless you connect,
You aren't able to draw all of what the internet, what the web
has into your computer, right? Unless you actually are able
to connect to it. Like you have to have the password, right?
It's like God does have an incredible living message for you. But in order for you to receive
it, in order for you to experience it, you have to have faith. In
order for you to connect to it, you have to have faith. So it's
very possible. So God exists, and God is able,
and God is powerful enough to do all kinds of different things.
The point is, you can still walk around in fear, and anger and bitterness, all
the while God has been good. All the while God has been working,
all the while God has been protecting you and guiding you, been good
to you, but yet I don't see him as good. I don't experience the
joy from that. Why? Because I don't see him.
Because I don't have faith.
