Now once again this morning I
want to take a few moments to speak to the children, but that
of course does not prevent those of us who are bigger children
from listening in as well. Last time we spoke, boys and
girls, we spoke about the Bible. And we learned concerning the
Bible that it is God's book and that it teaches us about God
and about the three persons of the Godhead, God the Father,
God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We also learned that
it was inspired That means that it was God-breathed. That it
was infallible. That means that there are no
mistakes. There's nothing false. There
are no errors in the Bible. That it was instructive in that
we can learn from it. and that it is invaluable, that
it is a precious thing to possess and to read and to know about
as we grow older. Now these points that we thought
about before, I want to, as it were, take them and apply them
immediately to another subject altogether. Because we have learned
that the Bible tells us the truth, and I want to take what the Word
of God, the Bible says, and remind us this morning about this world
in which we live. because we are told in the Bible
this inspired, infallible, instructive, and invaluable book that God
created this world in which we live. God made the world and
all things. Indeed, the Bible tells us that
God created the world in six days, In Genesis, the first book
of the Bible, we read these words in the first verse of the first
chapter. In the beginning, in the beginning,
God created the heaven and the earth. God created the heaven and the
earth. All that we can see, all that
we can see in this world, all that we can see in the stars
and in the moon and in the sun, everything that we can see, God
created it out of nothing. The Bible tells us that God took
six days to create the world. He did it stage by stage. He could have done it in one
moment, but he chose to do it stage by stage. And I believe
that he did this to show us that there are stages in everything
that happens in this world. And sometimes when we think about
the original creation, we are drawn by the word of God to think
about salvation and a new creation. and we are reminded that that
too works in stages. What God tells us in his book
is that on day one, he created light. He said, let there be
light, and there was light. On day two, God created the air
and the clouds. On day three, he created dry
land and the things that grow in the earth. On day four, he
created the sun and the moon and the stars. On day five, he
created the sea creatures and the birds that fly. And on day
six, he created the land animals and man. God created all these
by the power of his word. and the word of his power. God spoke all these things out
of nothing and they came into being. They exist because God
said that they should. And everything that God created,
he declared to be very good. He created it perfectly. He didn't have to take two or
three attempts. He didn't have to try a number
of different options. He created all things and he
created it very good. And the Bible tells us that on
the seventh day of the week, God rested. Now I hope you don't think that
God rested because he was tired after all that work. He rested
once again to teach us, his creation, the importance of a day of rest
and also to point us right at the very beginning of time to
the Lord Jesus Christ, who has become His people's rest. And we rest in Him who has done
all things well, who has accomplished our salvation, and who has bestowed
upon us the gift of His grace and His goodness. There is gospel even in the account
of creation in the Word of God. Now, I want to be frank with
you, children, today, and I want to tell you something that you
will discover as you grow up, and that is that a lot of people
laugh at the idea that God created the world. They believe in what
they call evolution or the theory of evolution and that the world
and all we see evolved. It came to be like it is over
millions and millions of years. But remember what we said at
the beginning. The Bible is inspired It is infallible,
it is instructive, and it is invaluable. It teaches us about
God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and what it says is true. So if people will say that they
don't believe the Bible, then that's up to them. But those
of us who have found God to be faithful, And true, we know that
what God says is right. And it is interesting, I think,
for us to remember what the Lord Jesus Christ said about creation. Since we've been speaking about
the Bible, I want your mums and dads to look in your Bibles now
at Matthew chapter 19 and verse 4. And if you've got a little
one close to you, I want you to point to that verse and I
want you to show the children in the Bible the verse that we're
about to read. Matthew chapter 19 and verse
4. The Lord Jesus Christ was being
questioned about the subject of divorce, marriage and divorce. We might say, well, that's a
strange thing for us to be referring to in the context of creation. But look at what the Lord Jesus
does in this situation. So there we are, find our Bibles,
because that's our practice in this church. We support what
we're saying from the Bible. Mums and dads, point to the verse
4 of Matthew 19, and we'll all read it. And he answered and
said unto them, have ye not read that he which made them at the
beginning made them male and female? And said, For this cause
shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his
wife, and they twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are
no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined
together, let not man put asunder. These verses tell us that the
Lord Jesus Christ believed in Adam and Eve. The Lord Jesus
Christ believed that God, at the beginning, had created Adam
and Eve. And I think, too, that it tells
us that the way and the pattern in which God established his
whole world of Babies being born was through the joining together
of mummies and daddies, men and women, male and female. The Lord Jesus Christ would someday
come through that process of procreation, though mysteriously
and miraculously so. and that he is showing us that
there is a union that exists between Christ, the bridegroom,
and his church and people who are his bride. A union that is
inseparable, that is one flesh, that is husband and wife, and
is an eternal union between Christ and his people. Science has lots
of ideas and theories, but God's word is true. And the same God
who created the world in six days, he forms a new creation
in the hearts and souls of his people. He saves them from their
sin powerfully and effectively. And one creation, the creation
of the whole world and the whole universe in six days by the power
of his word, is just as wonderful and miraculous and marvellous
as the new creation that he makes in the hearts and lives of his
people. Both are works of Almighty God. Psalm 33 in verse 5 says this,
The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word of the
Lord were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath
of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the
sea together as an heap. He layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord.
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spake, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood fast. Amen. May God bless to us these
thoughts.
