What does the Bible say about election?

The Bible teaches that election is the act of God choosing certain individuals for salvation before the foundation of the world.

Election is a precious doctrine found in Scriptures such as Ephesians 1:4-5, where it states that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world. This act of divine choosing emphasizes God's sovereignty and His purpose for salvation. John 6:37-40 also highlights that all whom the Father gives to the Son will indeed come to Him, ensuring that none will be lost. Therefore, election is critical for understanding the nature of salvation and God's grace toward sinners.

Ephesians 1:4-5, John 6:37-40

How do we know election is true?

We know election is true through biblical teaching and the testimony of Christ who affirms that those given to Him by the Father will come to Him.

The doctrine of election is substantiated by Scripture and the words of Jesus Himself. In John 6:39, Jesus states, 'And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing.' This assertion conveys the certainty and permanence of those God has chosen for salvation. Furthermore, the Apostle Paul encourages believers with the assurance that the Word of God is not bound, affirming that it accomplishes what God intends for His elect. Thus, the truth of election is pervasively taught throughout the New Testament.

John 6:39, 2 Timothy 2:9

Why is election important for Christians?

Election is essential for Christians as it assures them of God's grace and guarantees their salvation in Christ.

The doctrine of election is foundational in understanding the security and assurance of salvation. It emphasizes that salvation is not based on human merit but solely on God's purpose and grace. Romans 9:29 reminds us that unless God had chosen a remnant, no one would be saved. This truth provides comfort to believers, assuring them that they are not left to their own devices to secure their salvation. Knowing that God has chosen them can deepen their faith and motivate them to share the gospel with others, trusting that God will draw His elect to Himself.

Romans 9:29, Ephesians 1:4

What does John 6:37-40 say about election?

John 6:37-40 affirms that all whom God has given to Jesus will come to Him and will not be lost.

In John 6:37-40, Jesus articulates the doctrine of election by stating that He will not lose any of those given to Him by the Father. This passage reflects the unbreakable bond between God’s sovereign choice and the salvific work of Christ. Verse 39 emphasizes that Jesus will raise them up at the last day, ensuring their ultimate salvation. This rich promise reinforces the assurance believers have in their election; they can trust that they are secured in Christ's love and will experience eternal life through Him.

John 6:37-40

How does election relate to salvation?

Election is the divine act of choosing individuals for salvation, making it a foundational aspect of God's redemptive plan.

Election is intrinsically tied to salvation in that it precedes it and guarantees it. Ephesians 1:4 speaks of God choosing us in Christ before the foundation of the world, highlighting the significance of this doctrine in understanding God's redemptive purpose. Election indicates that salvation is not random or dependent on human will but part of God's eternal and sovereign plan. Thus, it underscores the grace of God, emphasizing that it is not through our actions but by His mercy that we are brought into a relationship with Him and granted eternal life.

And I want to begin reading to
you there in that verse, John chapter 6 and verse 37. All that
the Father gives to me, all that He has given to me, He's yet
given now. The Father never changes His
mind. What He's given to the Son in eternity past, He yet
gives to Him now. Election is not something so
old, is it? It's always fresh in the Father's
mind and in his heart. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will in no wise
cast out. For I came down from heaven not
to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this
is the will, my Father's will which hath sent me, that of all
which he hath given I should lose nothing, but should raise
it up again at the last day. And this is the will of Him that
sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son and believeth on
Him may have everlasting life, and I will raise Him up at the
last day." When you and I read a precious truth, I say a truth
in the Scriptures. It becomes precious to us for
different reasons at different times in our life. Election is
very precious to us. It's precious to all God's children
without exception. And it's precious for this reason.
At least one reason is we see how essential election is. We say it's essential because
What if God had not chosen anybody? What if God had not given anybody
to His Son to secure their eternal salvation? You know the Scripture
answers that question for us. And it's a fearful thing to contemplate
the answer that it gives. Because it says this in Romans
9, Except the Lord hath left us a seed, a people, a promised
seed, Except the Lord had not chosen, Paul said we would have
all been his sodom, and we would have all been made lack unto
Gomorrah. There would have been no hope
for the human race. Election is unto salvation. It's not salvation, but it's
unto salvation. What if there had been no election?
There would have been no salvation. Election is as crucial as the
cross. How crucial is the cross? Election
is as crucial as the new birth. You must be born again. Election
is as crucial as faith in Christ itself. I say this this morning
with a measure of trembling in my soul, that if I'm not one
of the elect, If I am not one of those whom God hath chosen
in Christ before time, the cross will do me no eternal good. If I am not one of the elect,
I will never believe the gospel. You believe not because you are
not of my sheep. If I am not His, I will never
believe it. Who was it that Christ laid down His life for? It was
the sheep. I laid down my life for the sheep. See how essential election is? It's only in this election that
the cross becomes effectual. And if I'm not one of His elect,
I'll never come to Him. I'll never believe on Him. Who
is it that comes to Him? All that the Father gives to
me shall come to me. See how crucial election is.
Just as crucial as the cross, or the new birth, or faith in
the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus said, you believe
Me not because you are not of My sheep. Believing never made
anybody a sheep. But people come to believe because
they are one of His sheep. None but sheep are given life
eternal. And none but sheep come to the
Lord Jesus Christ to be saved by Him. Now, I don't say this
this morning to be harsh. And I sure don't say this that
somebody may look upon me and say, well, Bruce, you're just
glorying in yourself. No, election strips us of any
glory in ourselves. Because by nature, we're all
alike, aren't we? We're all children of wrath by
nature. And I don't say this this morning
to discourage anyone from coming to Christ. I say election is
essential and there's no eternal benefits apart from it because
it's the truth. It's the truth. And to show you
and I how essential it is, that election, took place. All the
blessings of God are wrapped up in this act of God. He's chosen us in Christ before
the foundation of the world. Why? To bless us. He hath blessed us according
as He hath chosen us. If there's no election, brothers
and sisters, there's no cross, there's no new birth, there is
no coming to Christ. Because all these blessings are
in this nutshell of God's holy election. And since election
is so essential, don't you suppose that you and I should hear a
little more about it than we do? You've heard people say,
well, election is just being preached too much. Let me ask
you this question. How long has it been, if ever,
That you've turned your TV on some religious station, and you've
sat there and listened to some preacher expounding upon this
truth. How long has it been since you
turned your radio off, and you were just flipping through the
channels, and you just happened to come upon a preacher expounding
the doctrine of election? Has it ever happened? Have you
read one sentence in your newspaper about it? Have you gone to any
of the local churches in this area and just happened that the
pastor got up and he says, I want to preach this morning on God's
electing grace? I, for one, don't believe it's
being preached too much. And I think probably you would
agree with me on that analysis. And verse 37 here contains something
that makes this truth of God's election a very precious truth
to us. Not only that we see how essential
it is, that there's no salvation apart from it, that salvation
is to the elect of God. They come. They believe. But
here's another thing about this that makes it a precious truth,
and it's this. When we see Hear from verse 37
how election encouraged our Lord Jesus Christ. He was the prince
of preachers, you know. He wasn't ashamed to be a preacher.
And He was preaching here to this multitude of people. And
He begins by telling them He had fed this multitude with the
bread and the fish. And they came across the sea
looking for him. And the first thing he says to
them, he says, you don't seek me because you want me to save
you. You seek me because you want to eat some more of my loaves
and my fishes. And he rebukes them. He says,
don't seek this meat which perishes, but seek that meat which endures
to life everlasting. And then he begins here in this
context to teach them. He said, I'm the bread that comes
down from heaven. My Father has sent me here to
give life unto the world. And he says, seek me. Seek me
for life eternal. And he says, here's what he says. And I can imagine his heart somewhat
sinking. I can imagine he's somewhat discouraged
when he says this. He says, but you're listening
to me preach. You saw the miracles that I've
done. You see me." But he says, none
of you believe on me. None of you come to me for me
to save you and give you life. Not a one of you believe on me.
And we see that from this chapter as we go on reading through this
chapter. You can see it. He was talking about his blood
being drank indeed and his flesh being meat indeed. And he says,
does this offend you? Are you offended at this? Of
course they were offended. And the Bible tells us in this
chapter that they went away and walked with him no more at all.
Never heard him preach again. Can you imagine how somewhat
discouraged he was about that? He was a preacher. Who wouldn't
be discouraged about it? You've seen me. You've heard
me preach. But you don't believe on me.
You will not come to me that you might have lies. And then
suddenly, just almost out of the blue, he quotes verse 37. He says, you haven't come to
me. You don't know me. You have no need of me. And you're
not going to come to me, he says. But then he says, listen to me.
All that the Father hath given to me, those that He gives to
me, they shall come to me. Can you just feel his soul begins
to rise and be encouraged by this? I tell you, that's enough. When
I consider this alone, this is enough for me to say what a precious,
precious truth this is. That Jesus Christ Himself rejoiced
in this and was encouraged by this. Oh, he looked at him and
he said, you won't come to me. But he says, God has given me
a people. And they'll come. They shall
come to me. I want you to look at a couple
of places. Look over in Isaiah chapter 49. Old John chapter
36. And look in Isaiah chapter 49. So often, the Lord Jesus preached
to these Jews And so often they twisted His
Word, falsely accused Him, wouldn't believe the miracles
that He did. And you know, in the end, instead of the Lord's
ministry profiting those Jews, it just brought them under a
greater condemnation. Ain't that what He tells us?
He said, it would have been better if you never had heard Me and
seen Me. than to treat me like you've
treated me." He says, I've preached to you, but it's been in vain. I have labored on your behalf,
and it's not profited you at all. It's done you no good. Look
what he says here in Isaiah chapter 49. We know that he's speaking here
of the Lord Jesus. Listen, and verse 1, O islands
unto me, and hearken you people from far. The Lord hath called
me from the wound, from the bowels of my mother, as he made mention
of my name. His name shall be called Jesus.
This is Jesus speaking. Ain't that amazing? And he hath
made my mouth like a sharp sword. In the shadow of his hand hath
he hid me, and made me a polished shack. In his quiver hath he
hid me. And he said unto me, You are
my servant, O Christ, O my Son, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. And look here what the Lord Jesus
says. He complains about something.
And I don't know what other word to use but complaining. It may
not be complaining like we do, but he complains about something.
Here is what the Lord Jesus said. I have labored in vain. I have spent my strength for
nothing and in vain. Yet he says, surely my judgment
is with the Lord, and my work is with my God. I'll commit myself
to my Father. And now saith the Lord that farmed
me, He farmed me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob
again to Him, though Israel be not gathered The natural Jews
were not deathly, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of my Father,
and my God shall be my strength. And the Father said to his dear
son, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved
of Israel. I will give you for a light to
the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation unto the ends of
the earth. And look in verse 8. Thus saith
the Lord, in an acceptable time have I heard thee. In a day of
salvation have I helped thee. I will preserve thee and give
you for a covenant of the people to establish the earth and cause
to inherit the desolate places, that thou mayest say to the prisoners, And they will. And you may say
to those that are in hiding, show yourself. And they will.
They shall feed in the ways, and their pasture shall be in
all high places. They shall not hunger nor thirst,
neither shall the heat nor the sun smite them. For he that hath
mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water
shall he guide them. And I will make all my mountains
away, And my highways shall be exalted. Behold, these shall
come. They're far off, but they shall
come. And lo, these from the north, and these from the west,
and these from the land of Sinai." What's he saying? He's saying,
my dear son, I know the Jews are going to uproar you. I know
that you're going to labor in vain as far as they're concerned.
But I've given you a people, and you're going to say to those
people, you're free! Show yourselves! Come to Me! And all of them are going to
come. They may be afar off, but they're
coming. They may be in the north, south,
east, and west, but they're coming! They're coming! The Lord Jesus
must have remembered this verse. Because he said, you know something?
All the Father gives to me, they shall come to me. They shall
come to me. The Apostle Paul was put in prison.
When he was out, they kept a soldier by his side, kept him in a chain. And he got a hold of this doctrine
of election. And it so encouraged his heart.
He said, I am a prisoner. I don't have my liberty anymore
to go preaching like I used to. But he said, you know something?
The Word of God is not bound. You can't bind it like you bind
a physical person. I'm here in prison and I'm in
this chain, but the Word of God, when it's preached, it goes out
and nobody can hinder it. And he said, therefore, I endear
all things for the elect's sake, that they may obtain that salvation
which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." They're coming,
he said. They're coming. How encouraging
is that to every child of God as he preaches and teaches and
goes out to witness? You may do it with utter weakness,
but you know what? You speak the Word to one of
those that God has given His Son, you know what's going to
happen? They're coming to Christ. They're coming to Christ. This encouraged the Lord Jesus.
This encouraged Him. When I say it encouraged him,
that he was encouraged by election, I mean he was encouraged by the
certainty of it. All that the Father gives to
me, He shall come to me. He shall. Unavoidable. Inescapable. He shall. He shall. Not He might. There's no ifs. There's no well buts. He shall. He shall. The most positive word
in all of our English language. He shall come to me. Election is fixed. It's unchangeable. It's unchanging. Therefore, the
Lord Jesus said, I take great comfort in this. I take great
courage. And brothers and sisters, what
encourages our Lord and Savior? What encourages us? But the third
thing about this, not only that it's an essential truth, and
not only is it encouraging to Christ the Prince of Preachers
Himself, but think about this. This makes election precious
also, when you think of this. There's never been a person,
I mean man or angel, that had it in his heart to do sinners
as much good as the Son of God did. And what election does,
it assures him that those desires that he has will be satisfied. I want to do sinners good. Well,
God his Father said, I'm going to give you a whole mass of people
that you can do good to. And that just rejoiced his heart.
How often the Lord Jesus went about lifting up His voice to
this end, that sinners would come to Him so He could do them
good. Don't He say that often? Come
unto Me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, I'll give you
rest. Though your sins be as scarlet,
come now to Me. I desire to do you good. I desire
to wash you and make you whiter than snow. I desire to do you
good. Come to me. If any man thirst,
let him come to me and drink. I'll quench your thirst. I'll
do you good." And he attaches with that one of the greatest
promises this world could ever hear. He that believeth on Me,
as the Scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
of living waters." You come to Me, I'll not only quench your
thirst, I'll put within you a river of living water. I desire to
do sinners good. And here in verses 39 through
verse 40 in our text, I think sometimes the Lord Jesus just
almost stopped here and said, I want to tell you all the good
that I'm going to do my chosen people. I've just got to tell
you. And He has to reframe Himself. He says here in verses 39 through
verse 40, He said, here's the good that I'm going to do to
you. All which He has given me I should
lose nothing, but raise it up again at the last day. I'm going
to do you good. I'm going to raise you up from
the dead, He said. Make you holy, embodied, just
like Me. And in verse 40, And this is
the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the
Son, and believeth on Him, I'm going to give him everlasting
life. And I'm going to raise him up at the last day. I'm going
to do him good. All that the Father giveth to
me, He shall come to me. And I'm going to do Him good.
I want to do Him good. I desire to do Him good. It's
in my heart to do Him good. I'm going to do Him good. I don't
care who He is. I don't care what He's done.
I'm going to do Him good. I'm not going to cast Him out.
Did you notice that? He has it in His heart to do
these elect sinners so much good. He said, I'm not going to cast
one of them away, no matter who they are or what they've done.
Upon coming to Me, He said, I'm going to open my heart to them,
and I'm going to embrace them and bless them and save them. Do you know anybody that can
do you as much good as the dear and blessed Savior? Do you know
anybody that wants to do you as much good as He does? Well,
election assures him that he'll have that opportunity to do it.
And Budge, you give him the opportunity and he'll do it. He does it.
They shall come to me empty to be filled, naked to be clothed,
filthy to be washed, ignorant to be taught, lost to be saved,
hungry to be fed, wounded to be healed. They shall come to
me. Listen to what he says in Zephaniah.
This is one of the most amazing scriptures. You'll find this
in Zephaniah chapter 3. Listen to this. This is absolutely
astounding. Here's what God said. Sing, O
daughters of Zion. Shout, O Israel. Be glad and
rejoice with all your heart, O daughters of Jerusalem. For
the Lord hath taken away your judgment." The judgment that
was upon you, the guilt, He has just taken it away. He has cast
out your enemy. The King of Israel, even the
Lord, is in the midst of you. You shall not see evil anymore. And in that day it shall be said
to Jerusalem, Fear not, the Lord your God in the midst of you
is mighty, He will save you. He will rejoice over you with
joy. He will rest in His love. He will joy over you with singing. Now, can you imagine the living
God and Savior singing all the time that He is saving
you? Everything that He did to save
you from His shameful death upon the cross, to His calling you
to Himself, to Him keeping you through this world and bringing
you to heaven, all the time He's saving you. And you think He's
having such a hard time doing it. And you think just any time
He's going to cast you away because He's weary with you and He's
tired of you. And all the time, what's He doing?
He's singing. He's rejoicing over you to do
you good. Oh, Lord, I've sinned. Be merciful
to me. What does He do? He just rejoices.
Not over your sin, but over forgiving you of it. I can't hardly picture God rejoicing
over me. Can you? I think more I can see
Him being awfully burdened over me, but rejoicing over me. I tell you, He's not like us,
is He? His heart's not like us. Jesus Christ is full of compassion,
and He wants to manifest it to His people. Election just gives
Him that opportunity to do it. And when He does it, He just
goes at it with all of His heart, singing. You ladies go around
the house vacuuming your room and washing your dishes, how
often do you do that and you sing? You just sing. That's hard
work, but you're singing. You men off working on your jobs,
it's hard work. You're laboring, but you're singing.
You enjoy it. That's the way the Master is.
That's the way He is. Oh, what would it cost Him?
What would it cost Him? But He rejoices with joy. But you take away election. You
take away election. You take away the certainty of
this. He may or He may not save anybody. But election makes it certain,
you see. That's why it's precious. Something
else, fourthly, is this. Something else makes election
precious. It shows us the value the Heavenly Father puts upon
the objects of His love. How much does the Father love
His elect people? How much does He care for them? How can we possibly estimate
such a thing? If you've got something that's
valuable to you, what do you do with it? You protect it, don't you? You've
got something that you don't care that much about, you'll
throw it up on a shelf and you won't think anything else about
it. Because it's not valuable to you. You'll forget about it.
You may lose it. But if you have something that's
valuable to you, I mean, it's the affection of your heart.
You think about it. It's like that treasure that's
hidden in a field, and a man went and found treasure hidden
in a field, and he couldn't get over it. It was so valuable to
him, he went home and told his wife. He said, we're going to
sell the house? We're going to sell the farm,
the cows? I found a field over there that's got some precious
treasure in it. And she said, baby, you can do
that. You can't sell a house I've known yet. So they laid
down, but he couldn't get it off of his mind. And he walked
around and said, Sweetheart, I've got to do this. I can't
sleep. And he comes the next morning.
Boy, he goes out and he puts everything on the market. And
he sells it all just for that treasure that he found in the
field. When something is precious to
you, what do you do with it? Oh, you value it so much. You
put it in a safe place, don't you? You're not careless with
it. You take out insurance on it.
And you watch it carefully with your eyes. The elect are nothing in and
of themselves. No different from and no better
than anyone else. But their worth lies in this. They are the objects of the Father's
everlasting love. They're His vessels of mercies.
They're His precious jewels. He loves them. He cannot endure
to lose even one of them. So to show us the worth that
He places upon them, He refuses to leave them to themselves. He doesn't even trust them with
Himself. He doesn't even trust them with angels, but who does
He trust them to? His only begotten Son. I've got these people that I
love. And if I even think about losing one of them and they perish,
oh, my heart is grieved. I can't lose one of them. My
father, what are you going to do with them? My son, I'm going
to give them to you. I'm going to give them to you.
I'm going to give them to somebody that loves them as much as I
do. Somebody that cares for them and someone that is concerned
about them just as much as I am. Somebody that will never be discouraged
or disappointed until they have did everything that's necessary
to bring them home to me, to my house, and set them right
here before my face, every last one of them. Now, ain't that
precious? You didn't think you were so
precious, did you? No, you look at yourself and you go moping
around. Oh, wretched man that I am. As
well you should. But oh, here's the way to estimate
your value, dear elect child. How much does the Father regard
you? How much does He love you? That He give you to His Son to
save you, to secure your everlasting salvation. Ain't that a humbling
thing? I tell you, that just strips
all the props up and under me and leaves me laying on my face
before the Father in heaven. I can't imagine such love as
elective love. This is the will of Him that
sent me, that of all that He hath forgiven me, I should lose
nothing. See that? Here's why He entrusted
them with me. Because He knows that I will
never lose nothing. Not a one of them. Not a one
of them, Lord Jesus. I'm telling you, He says, if
I've got just one that goes astray, I'll leave the rest of these
over here in the fold. I'll go after him until I find
him. Not one of them. Not one will
I lose. I tell you, it's not only that
they're precious in the Father's eyes, they must be precious in
Christ's eyes too. I ain't going to lose on one
of them. Oh, what an awful thing it is
for some to tell us that a child of God could go to hell. That
a child of God could perish in the hell created for the devil
and his angels. Isn't that awful? An object of
the Father's everlasting love, one of those that He has entrusted
with the Son for them to perish. One man even wrote a book on
it, Can a True Believer Be Lost? And he said, yes. Remember that,
Bob? How awful. And it's awful for this reason.
The Lord Jesus said, all that He's given me, I'll not lose
anything. Not a one. I've got to bring
them all. Got to bring them all. Only you
can estimate what it's going to cost you. Humiliation, the shame, the sweat,
the rejection, the blood, his own death, his life laid down. It cost me everything, he said.
Everything. It will cost me myself. But he
said, I will not lose a one of them. Not a one of them. Is that precious or not? Election
is precious, brothers and sisters. You know it's not easy to be
responsible for people. Let me show you just a couple
of scriptures. Look over here in Numbers chapter
11 right quickly. Look at Numbers chapter 11. It's
not easy to be responsible for people. Numbers chapter 11. When you say, I accept the responsibility
for this person or that person, man, that's a load, ain't it?
The Lord sent Moses to deliver the children of Israel, and said,
now you take care of this people, and you bring them into the land
of promise. And boy, he couldn't do it. He got so mad. He got
so upset, then he just despaired. Look here what he said in Numbers
chapter 11. And verse 11. Numbers 11, 11. Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore
have you afflicted your servant? And wherefore have I not found
favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people
upon me? Have I conceived this people?
Have I begotten them, that you should say unto me, Carry them
in your bosom as a nursing father? Beareth the suckling child into
the land which you swore to our fathers? Whence should I have
flesh to feed all these people? For they weep unto me, saying,
Give us flesh that we may eat. I am not able to bear these people
alone. It is too heavy for me. And if
you deal with me, then kill me, I pray you, out of hand, if I
have found favor in thy sight. And let me not see my wretchedness. Wouldn't that be an awful burden? Now look at this passage of Scripture
in Isaiah chapter 40. Look in Isaiah chapter 40. This
is speaking of one greater than Moses. This is speaking of the
Lord Jesus, the Shepherd. Just this one verse. Look what
it says in Isaiah chapter 40. And look in verse 11. And you know this is speaking
of the Lord Jesus. You study the context. John comes preparing
the way before Him. And look here what He says. You
can go on and on. I'd encourage you to read this
whole chapter. But look here in verse 11. He shall feed His flock like
a shepherd. That's the Lord Jesus. He shall
gather the lambs with His arm. And he's going to carry them
in his bosom and gently lead those that are with John. And you know something? It's
not a burden to him at all to do it. He says, I'm going to
accept the responsibility to do this. I've got some sheep. I'm going to gather them. I'm
going to be so patient. All the mountains that they've
wandered on, I'm going to gather. Those little lambs, I'm going
to take them and carry them in my bosom. And those who are tender,
I'm just going to be so gentle and patient with them and lead
them along. God said, I want you to be responsible
for all my elect people. And the Lord Jesus says, Father,
I'll do it. I'm just the person to do it.
I accept that responsibility. If this congregation started
to grow very much, I'd probably resign as the pastor. I can't
accept that responsibility. I can hardly be responsible for
my wife and my kids. But he said, I'll accept the
responsibility for a number that no man can number. One last thing. Back over to
our text. One last thing. One more minute. Something else. And this is conclusion. And this
is what makes the doctrine of election a precious thing. Election
assures every believer that his end will be not only well, but
glorious. Election assures every believer that his end will not only be
well, but glorious. The Lord never tells His people
that the Christian life is easy. He doesn't say, boy, this is
going to be a lot of fun now. He never tells us that. It's
right the opposite. You better study yourself, He
said, because you're in for some rough waters. In this life, you're
going to have some tribulation. All that will live godly in Christ
Jesus shall suffer persecution in dear hardness as a good soldier. But he does tell us this, I have
fixed your outcome. I have determined your end and
it will be well. Ain't that what he says? All
the Father gives to me shall come to me, and what's going
to happen at the last day? When the life is over and the
end of time has come, what's going to happen? I will raise
them up. Every last one of them, I'll
raise them up. I'll change their body, I'll give them a glorious
body, and they'll be with me forever. That's the end of every
elect soul. It's fixed. Well, I tell you, if you see
that this morning, you see yourself in Christ, and you see that election
is unchanging, unchangeable, that your destiny is fixed, your
eternal destiny is fixed, what else matters? What else matters
is what you have to suffer in this world. It doesn't matter. Bring on the fiery furnace, Nebuchadnezzar. Open up your den of lions, O
King. Heat up your boiling oil, you
enemies of my soul. Nothing else matters. My eternal
well-being is fixed. I'm one of His. And He'll raise
me up at the last day. Now, brother, that's precious.
That's precious. I thought about this last night.
I got so burdened over something, and oh, I got so down. And I
just thought of this, and I'd just been studying on it, and
it didn't dawn upon me until I was laying there meditating
on it. I thought, oh, what a glorious thing. I'm His. And no matter
how I'm feeling right now, in the end, it's going to be well.
As sure as God is God, it's going to be well. And, oh, my soul
would just lift it up in heavenly pleasure. Are you one of His? I heard a man say one time when
Paul wrote to Timothy and said that God has saved us and called
us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but His own purpose."
That man said that was just talking to Paul and Timothy. That didn't
mean anything about him. I heard another man say, when
you talk about election in the Scriptures, that's just for the
Jews. Well, here's the way to settle that. Have you come to
Christ? Have you come to Him? Have you
cast your soul upon Him to be saved by Him? Do you see Him? Everyone which seeth the Son,
do you see Him in His Word? Do you see Him through the eye
of your understanding, faith? Then you are one of His. I don't
care who you are. I don't care if you are Jew or
Gentile. I don't care what color of your
skin is. I don't care if you are male
or female. I don't care who you are. There is no distinction
in this. If you've come to Christ, you're
His. And here's what He says to you,
and He'd have you to believe it and live in the assurance
of it, that your end is fixed. And it's a glorious end. Unless
you would think not being raised up with Him is something that
ain't going to be glorious. And being like Him, and being with
Him. Oh, don't you love election? I mean, if you're here this morning
and you say, I ain't one of them, you'd have to say, well, it's
glorious anyway. It's glorious. You want to be
one of them? Well, you can't make yourself
one of them. But you can prove you are. And how do you do it? Come to Christ. Come to Christ. That will answer all your questions.
I want to know if I'm one of His. Well, come to Christ and
that will tell you. I want to know how it's going to be with
me in the end. Well, come to Christ and that
will tell you. It's all in Him. It's all in
Him. Let's pray.
