If God will enable me, I want
to talk to you this morning about an intensely personal matter. We turn into Zechariah chapter
12. An intensely personal matter. God's great salvation is an intensely
personal matter. Repentance toward God is an intensely
personal matter. Faith in Christ is intensely
personal. The new birth is intensely personal. If ever you come to experience
the grace of God in Christ, you will find it a very personal
thing. If ever you come to know the
Lord Jesus Christ, and experience the blessedness of sin forgiven,
you will find it an intensely personal matter. Turn with me
now to Zachariah, and let me show you. This entire book, all
14 chapters, is focused upon one great day, not a 24-hour
day. but this gospel day, this day
of mercy and grace and salvation. In fact, it is twice called in
the book of God, the day of salvation. Isaiah speaks of it that way.
And again, the apostle Paul speaks of it that way, both in the old
Testament prophets and in the book of first Corinthians in
this day, it is called the day of salvation. Now we've seen
this before, but I want you to Go back to chapter 2 of Zechariah,
and let me show you how this phrase is used repeatedly throughout
these 14 chapters. Zechariah is focused on one great
day, that day that began with the incarnation of Christ and
continues to the end of time. Zechariah chapter 2, verse 11.
Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day. And they shall be my people,
and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know
that the Lord of hosts has sent me unto thee. Chapter 3, verse
10. In that day, saith the Lord of
hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbor under the vine and
under the fig. This day of grace and salvation,
when you come to experience it, is a day of joy and feasting,
joy and feasting upon fat things, wine upon leaves well refined. Chapter nine, verse 16. The prophet has just spoken about
our Lord Jesus coming in his redemptive glory. And he says
in verse 16, the Lord their God shall save them in that day as
the flock of his people. For they shall be as the stones
of a crown lifted up as an ensign upon his land. Chapter 11, verse
11. And it was broken in that day.
And so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that
it was the word of the Lord. In that day of grace, God's people
are taught to wait upon him for grace. Chapter 12, verse 3. In that day will I make Jerusalem
a burdensome stone for all people. It will be a day of judgment.
Great judgment, spiritual judgment upon those who know not our God. Verse four. In that day, saith
the Lord, I will spite every horse with astonishment. Chapter
12, verse six. And that day will I make the
governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood. That
is, I will make my people and their leaders to be victorious
over their foes. Verse eight. In that day shall
the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. This day of grace
is a day of safety and security for we are defended by the hand
of our God. Verse 9. And it shall come to
pass in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations
that come up against Jerusalem. Again, judgment upon those who
oppose our God and oppose his people. Verse 11. In that day
Shall there be a great morning in Jerusalem as the morning of
the head of had red ribbon in the valley of Megiddo chapter
13 verse one. In that day, there should be
a fountain open to the house of David and the inhabitants
of Jerusalem for sin and uncleanness. And it shall come to pass in
that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will cut off the names
of the idols out of the land. I will rid my people of their
idolatry. Verse four. And it shall come
to pass in that day that the prophet shall be ashamed. Every
one of his vision, that is, God will destroy the false prophets
and their visions that will not be heard. People of God, though
deceived for a while, cannot be deceived forever. Verse four
of chapter 14. and his feet shall stand in that
day upon the Mount of Olives, shall stand where the olive press
is and the Spirit of God flows out. Verse six, and it shall
come to pass in that day that the light shall not be clear
nor dark. Chapter 14, verse eight, and
it shall come to pass or it shall be in that day that living water
shall go out from Jerusalem. Verse 9, and the Lord shall be
king over the earth. In that day, there shall be one
Lord and his name one. Verse 13, and it shall come to
pass in that day that a great tumult from the Lord shall be
among men, a time of great grace, but a time of great turmoil in
the earth. Verse 20, in that day, Shall there be upon the
bales of the horses holiness unto the Lord, rejoicing in God's
goodness, in God's glory, and in his holiness. Verse 21, down
to the last line. In that day there shall be no
more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts. God will
separate his people from the people of the earth and separate
the people of the earth from his people. Now this is the great
day of which all the prophets spoke. It was spoken of, we read
it in Isaiah, when the Lord reveals himself and doing wondrous things
for his own. As I said earlier, this great
day began with our saviors coming to the earth. And it continues
until the Lord Jesus shall lift his hand to heaven as Jehovah's
righteous servant, our great covenant surety, and declare
it is done. I am Alpha and Omega. In this day, God gathers his
people from the four corners of the earth unto himself. You
remember last Sunday morning, the last message of our conference,
Brother Mahan preached to us on in these last days. And one of the points in his
message was these last days are days of elect gathering. That's what God is doing in this
day. We do not fail to recognize God's
hand of judgment upon the nations. We do not fail to recognize God's
hand of judgment upon individuals. We do not fail to recognize God's
hand of judgment even in our own families, even in our own
lives. But we recognize clearly that
as God Almighty exercises judgment upon all that's opposed to him,
he is gathering his elect unto himself. In this day, God gathers
his people from all the nations of the earth by omnipotent, irresistible
mercy and graciously causes them to come to his son. Now, in our
text this morning, Zechariah chapter 12, beginning at verse
9, the prophet of God, by inspiration, tells us exactly how it is that
God gathers his elect. Now when we read beginning at
verse nine, understand that the paragraph marks and the verse
division, I'm sorry, the chapter and verse divisions in our translation
were put there by the translators. They are comfortable and easy
means by which we can memorize scripture or find passages of
scripture. But the chapter and verse divisions
are not inspired. When you read Zechariah 12, you
ought to read right on through into chapter 13, just as though
there were no division at all. Let's begin in verse 9. And it
shall come to pass in that day that I will seek to destroy all
the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon
the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the
spirit of grace and of supplications. that they shall look upon and
they shall look upon me whom they have pierced and they shall
mourn for him as one mourneth for his only son and shall be
in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for his
firstborn. And that day there shall be a
great morning in Jerusalem as the morning of Hadron Ribbon
in the valley of Megiddo and the land shall mourn every family
apart The family of the house of David apart and their wives
apart. The family of the house of Nathan
apart and their wives apart. The family of the house of Levi
apart and their wives apart. The family of Shimei apart and
their wives apart. All the families that remain,
every family apart and their wives apart. In that day, there
should be a fountain opened to the house of David. A fountain
open to those very people upon whom God pours out his spirit.
A fountain open to the house of David and to the inhabitants
of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. Now here's the first
thing. This gospel day, this day of
grace is a day of mercy and salvation to God's elect. But it is also
a day of constant judgment upon the reprobate. Let it be heard and understood.
This day, September 9, 2007, in this place is a day of mercy
and grace to God's elect. And it is a day of judgment to
the reprobate. The gospel will either melt your
heart and bring you to repentance, or it will harden your heart
in divine judgment. The same sun that melts the wax
hardens the clay, and so it is with the preaching of the gospel.
It shall come to pass in that day, God says, that I will seek
to destroy all the nations that come up against Jerusalem. Now,
if you care to read at your leisure, and I urge you to do so, two
reference passages, Ezekiel chapter 38, verse 1, going all the way
through to the last verse of chapter 39, and Revelation chapter
16. Those two passages describe what
men speak of often as the Battle of Armageddon. The Battle of
Armageddon, however, is not what fools in the religious world
think. It is not the gathering of all the nations of the earth
against Jerusalem and Israel, that physical nation and that
physical city and that physical people in the last day. People
everywhere vainly imagine that every time something happens
in Israel, Armageddon is coming. Armageddon is coming. Let me
tell you something. Armageddon began back in the
book of Genesis when Cain murdered his brother Abel. And it has
continued and only increased and will continue and only increase
throughout the ages of this earth. And it is more severe, more tumultuous
this day than it has ever been. And I fear we have seen nothing
yet. Armageddon is a spiritual warfare,
a warfare between Christ and all who oppose him, between Christ
and Satan, between Christ and the enemies of his church and
his people, a warfare between the people of God and all the
nations of the earth. That includes political leaders
and religious leaders worldwide. When the river Euphrates is spoken
of as drying up, it represents all the nations of the earth.
And as every time the nations of the earth have trouble, economic,
political strife, they point fingers of accusation against
God's people and oppose God's people, leading the nations against
God's people wherever they are gathered. They are those who
are the cause of all evil as far as the nations of this world
are concerned. And I repeat, I'm not just talking about presidents
and senators and congressmen. I'm not just talking about kings
and princes. I'm talking about the kings and princes of the
earth, the rulers of the earth who are inspired in their opposition
to the cause of Christ by religious people who do not know God. Religious people who pretend
to be the servants of God but are constantly opposed to him.
Well, do those things have any application to us in our day?
Clearly they do. John speaks specifically of the
charismatic movement in our day. In Revelation 16, 14, he speaks
of the spirits of devils working miracles. Devils working miracles. Well, Brother Don, you can't
possibly mean that all those who are involved in this worldwide
sweeping Pentecostal nonsense are devils. I wouldn't say that
for the world. God said that. You see, God says,
I will seek to destroy. And when God seeks to destroy,
He destroys. It is He who declares, I will
bring them up against my people. This is not any accident with
Him. It is He who declares, I will destroy them. Now, turn to 2
Thessalonians 2. And let me show you how that
in the midst of judgment, God performs mercy. causing his word
to be a saver of life unto life, or a saver of death unto death.
Life for those who believe, who are born of his spirit, and death
for those who harden themselves against his word. 2 Thessalonians
2, verse 7. The mystery of iniquity doth
already work, only he who now letteth will let. He who now
restrains will continue to restrain until it be taken out of the
way. That is the spirit of God will step aside and Satan is
loosed for a little season to deceive the nations. And that
wicked, then shall that wicked be revealed whom the Lord shall
consume with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with
the brightness of his coming. Even him who's coming is after
the working of Satan. Now watch this. With all power
and signs and lying wonders. Bobby's talking about Antichrist.
But Antichrist doesn't appear in a devil's costume with a long
tail and pitchforks breathing fire with 666 written across
his forehead. That's not it. That's not it.
Deceivable. So much so that were it possible,
even the elect of God would be deceived. Comes with all power
and signs and lying wonders. Verse 10, and with all deceivableness
of unrighteousness in them that perish. Why? Because they received
not the love of the truth that they might be saved. And for
this cause. Did you see that? God shall send
them strong delusion. that they should believe a lie,
that they all might be damned who believe not the truth but
had pleasure in unrighteousness. But, oh, what a glorious word. How come you're not wrapped up
in that nonsense? How come you haven't been deceived
with will worship? Antichrist setting himself up
in the house of God demanding that men worship him as God.
And that's what men do all over the world every Sunday morning,
Sunday night, and every time churches gather around the world.
They set up man as though he were God and demand that man
be worshipped. Paul calls it will worship. And that's what all free will
works religion is. You were there. And God called you out of darkness
into his marvelous light. How come? But we are bound to
give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of the
Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvage. Dive into it. How come you're not still rolling
in the aisles with United Baptist all over the place? because God
from the beginning chose you and called you by his grace. All right, look at verse 10 of
our text. Zechariah 12, 10. The prophet
moves from judgment to mercy and declares how repentance is
wrought and chosen redeemed sinners by God, the Holy Spirit. Our
Savior said, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
You must repent, or you must go to hell. No alternative. But
before any sinner can or will repent, repentance must be wrought
in him by God the Holy Spirit. All things connected with salvation
in the experience of grace. Those things men are responsible
to do. Repent. Believe on the Son of
God. Look and live. All those things
are things you must do or you must perish. But they are things
utterly out of the realm of possibility with you. You cannot repent. You cannot look to Christ. You
cannot come to Christ. It doesn't lie within the realm
of possibility unless God works it in you. Oh, thank God for
he who worketh in you to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Look at this. Zechariah chapter 12 verse 10. And I will pour upon the house
of David Upon my chosen people, my covenant
people, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, my elect church,
the spirit of grace and supplications, when the Lord Jesus came and
accomplished redemption for us as the prophet declared he would
by the sacrifice of himself in chapter 9. Ascending up on high,
He poured out His Spirit upon all flesh so that people were
born of His Spirit suddenly by the sweeping power of His grace.
He pours upon them the Spirit of grace. And when the Spirit
of grace comes, He is the Spirit of supplications. And they shall
look upon me whom they have pierced. I will pour out my spirit, a
spirit of grace, causing supplication. And when he pours out his spirit,
they upon whom the spirit is poured shall look, look unto
me and be saved. They shall look upon me whom
they have pierced. And they shall mourn for him
as one mourneth for his only son. and shall be in bitterness
for him as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Had the prophet
of God, Zechariah, given us no other word from God, had he given
us no other promise of God, had he been raised up by God just
to declare this one thing, we would have reason forever to
thank God for the ministry of that man. Oh, what a word of
grace. Repentance is the result of Holy
Spirit conviction. And Holy Spirit conviction is
the result of Christ being revealed in us in the day of grace and
salvation. Turn to that very familiar passage
in John 16 that describes this matter of Holy Spirit conviction. John chapter 16. How often have you heard folks
say, well, the Holy Spirit convicted me, I ought not wear shorts.
No, he didn't. No, he didn't. The Holy Spirit
convicted me, I ought not wear makeup. No, he didn't. You look
better with it. No, he didn't. The Holy Spirit
convicted me, I ought not watch television. No, he didn't. No,
he didn't. That was religion that did that.
That was religious outward righteousness that did that, not the Spirit
of God. Holy Spirit conviction has to do with three specific
things. Only three specific things. Now, if you choose not to wear
shorts, that's fine. If you choose not to wear makeup, that's fine.
If you choose not to watch television, that's fine. If you choose not
to have a glass of wine with your steak, that's fine. If you
choose not to smoke tobacco, that's fine. But don't call it
Holy Spirit conviction. It ain't so. It ain't so. John
16, verse 7. Our Lord Jesus says, nevertheless,
I tell you the truth. It is expedient for you, necessary,
needful for you that I go away. For if I go not away, Zechariah
chapter 12 verse 10 can't be fulfilled. The comforter will not come.
But if I depart, if I depart, if I send back to my father having
accomplished redemption, I will send him unto you. And when he
is come, when he is come, he will reprove the world, not the
whole world, I believe when the world says,
well, it means everybody. Well, find me a place anywhere
in time where the whole world been convinced of any of this.
No. He's talking about his elect
in the four corners of the world. His elect scattered through all
the world of every nation, kindred, tribe, and tongue. And this is
what he will do. He will prove the word is absolutely
convinced. Larry Brown, if God the Holy
Spirit had been poured out on you, he's convinced you of some
things. And he keeps convincing you of
sin. Of sin. Why? Because they believe not on me.
You who believe not, I tell you when you will come to see your
sin. When God the Holy Spirit takes
away your unbelief. Not until then, not until then.
He will reprove his people in every corner of the earth of
righteousness. Now, what's the next word? Because I go to my father and you see
me no more. What did the prophet say Emmanuel
would do when he came? What did the prophet say Messiah
would do when he came? What did the prophet declare
that Christ the Redeemer would do when he came? He will bring
in everlasting righteousness. Now here's the proof that righteousness
has been brought in by my obedience and blood. I'm going back to
my father and I couldn't go back if I hadn't fulfilled all I came
to do. End of judgment. Oh, when the Holy Spirit comes,
he's going to convince you that one of these days you're going
to stand before the great white throne judgment. No, you were
born convinced of that. Read the first chapter of Romans.
Every human being ever drew breath on this earth was made to know
by creation and by conscience that God Almighty will call him
into judgment. What's this mean? Convince them
of judgment. because the prince of this world
is judged. He said, now is the prince of
this world cast out. The Lord Jesus came down here
to overthrow the power of Satan, to destroy the works of the devil,
and here he says it's done. The Holy Spirit comes and convinces
sinners that Jesus Christ has borne all the wrath and judgment
of God due to their sins. And when the sinner is convinced
that Christ has taken away judgment, he sings and rejoices. There
is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.
Back in Zechariah, this gift of God, the Holy Spirit, is the
sure result Christ accomplished redemption. Every sinner redeemed
by Christ from the curse of the law shall receive the promise
God made to Abraham of the blessing of his grace by the gift of the
Holy Spirit. Paul says so in Galatians chapter
3. True repentance is said here in Zechariah 12 10 to be mourning. True repentance and true mourning
for sin always has a distinct and constant reference to the
Lord Jesus Christ. Many of you have mourned for sin because
you've been exposed. You got caught. We didn't go
to church much when I was growing up, but every time I got in enough
trouble, That mother thought I needed to get a dose of religion.
She'd get the Bible out and read about fire and brimstone, and
we'd go to church. She'd try to scare the devil
out of me. And sometimes it worked for a little while, for a little
while. First year I was here in Danville, all the churches
got together and had a movie. I mean, all of them, all of them,
the whole bunch, folks who wore backward collars and folks who
didn't. Pentecostals and papists, everybody got together, had a
movie called The Burning Hail. Terrible. Terrible. And everybody
got saved. Go find them now. No. No. Folks just get exposed and
they're terrified. That's not repentance. If I oppose
my sin, hate my sin, simply because of judgment and hell, I haven't
repented at all. I merely regret the fact that
God is just and my sin is there. But if I see my sin as a hateful
offense against God, if I see my sin as that which
pierced the Son of God, if I see my sin is that for which the
Son of God died in my stead, then my heart is truly broken
and I truly repent. Lord, let me weep for naught
but sin. and after none but thee, then
I would, oh, that I might a constant weeper be, a broken and contrite
heart, oh, God, thou wilt not despise." But this is not a one-time thing. I meet with people all the time
who have the notion Once they've made a profession of faith, once
they've baptized, joined the church, that's all over with.
Now, we've got that settled. Let's move on to something else.
Oh, no. Even when Christ is clearly seen
and truly believed, when pardon is greatly enjoyed, mourning
for sin is only deepened and increased. All right. Here's the third thing. Verses
11, 12, and 13. Verse 10 tells us this repentance
is the work of God the Holy Spirit in us. Verses 11, 12, 13, and
14 tell us that it is an intensely personal thing. Many, many, many
vainly imagine that grace runs in bloodlines. That, you know, we're covenant
families. And we bring our children to
the preacher or priest and have a little water sloshed on their
heads when they're babies and we stand as sponsors for them. And somebody asks you to be a
godfather for their child. Be anything but a godfather for
a child. Who's going to be a godfather
for me? I'm going to raise him to worship God. I want to raise
him to believe God. I'm going to stand in the stead
of God for him. What blasphemy? What blasphemy? Nobody's ever been brought into
union with Christ in the experience of grace because his daddy or
his mama were believers. Nobody. Nobody. Many vainly imagine that salvation
comes whenever You have a great revival and the churches all
get together. You have a religious campaign
or some famous evangelist comes to town and has some rock and
roll stars and country western singers to kind of get the crowd
pumped up. And then at the end of the service,
you get folks stationed in a certain place and everybody kind of starts
urging folks to walk down the front and just caught up in the
moment of excitement. Then we got saved. Nobody. Nobody. It is all an empty delusion. Either that or I don't know God.
It's just that simple. Either that or I have no idea
what God's grace is or what this book teaches. No, no. But Pastor, didn't God save 3,000
on the day of Pentecost? He does. He certainly did and
he may yet today. But it won't be because of bloodlines
or because you're related to somebody in a covenant family
way or because you attended some mass revival and got caught up
in the moment of religious excitement. Even on the day of Pentecost,
those 3,000 who were converted, each one repented for himself. Each one believed for himself. Each one came to Christ for himself. Each one confessed Christ for
himself. Here in Zechariah 11, or 12,
verse 11. And that day, there shall be
a great morning in Jerusalem, as the morning of Hadadrimmon
in the valley of Megeddon. and the land shall mourn, and
every family apart, the family of the house of David apart,
and their wives, the family of the house of Nathan apart, and
their wives apart, the family of the house of Levi apart, and
their wives apart, the family of the house of Shimei apart,
and their wives apart, and all the families that remain, every
family apart, and their wives apart. The mourning spoken of
here has one special characteristic. One special characteristic. One special characteristic. It
is intensely personal. Intensely personal. It's the
result of God working in you personally. And you seeking God
personally. You must be born again. You must repent. You must believe. You must come to Christ. You
must trust the Savior. Nobody can do this for you. The key word in these four verses
is apart. Now watch this. The whole land
is spoken of as mourning. All gods elect. Every one of
them going to mourn. But each one apart. Sometimes
whole families mourn. Sometimes whole families. Doesn't
often happen, but sometimes whole families. I baptize you, your
wife, and several of your children, just one right after the other.
But each one apart. Each one apart. The family of
the rich and the influential, like the royal family of the
House of David mourns, but each one apart. The family of the
prophet may mourn like the house of Levi, but each one apart. The priest family, the family
of those who teach others. Here I am, one who teaches you
the things of God, like the priest of the Old Testament. Lindsay
stands right here, Sunday after Sunday, teaching you the things
of God. But if the house repents, each
one Lindsay must do so apart for themselves. Apart. The families
of common laboring men, like Shemai, and his family may mourn,
but each one apart. And those nearest and dearest
to us, our wives may be granted the blessed mourning spoken of
here, this mourning of repentance, but each one apart. I can't mourn for that lady,
and she can't for me. I can't repent for her and she
can't for me. I can't repent for my children
and they can't for me. Each one apart. The fact is when
God deals with his people in grace, read the scriptures, read
illustration after illustration. He always deals with them apart. He said in Hosea chapter two,
I will allure you into the wilderness and speak comfortably to you.
He came to have mercy upon that woman taken in adultery, called
in the very act the Pharisees wanted to kill her. The Lord
Jesus arranged the whole thing in his sovereign providence so
that he could shut everybody out except her and him. Just her and him. Oh, son of
God, take some here this day. as you took the blind man brought
to you by the hand and leave them away, just you and the chosen
sinner. He comes, saw the Tarsus on his
way with a whole troop of folks persecuting the church. And the
Lord Jesus stopped him dead in his tracks, threw him down on
the ground, a light shone from heaven, a voice spoke from heaven.
And everybody around him knew something was going on, but nobody
had a clue what was going on. It was just mass confusion to
everybody else. Saul heard his voice and saw his glory. What multitudes there were gathered
around the cross. Roman soldiers, Jews, Gentiles,
priests and prostitutes. The whole crowd gathered around
watching him, mocking him, laughing at him. And the Lord Jesus pulled one
sinner apart and said, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Every sinner convinced of his sin finds himself utterly alone
before God. Have you ever been there? Just
you and God. Just you and God. Every sinner convinced of his
sin feels a need to be alone with his God and Savior. None can enter into his soul's
bitterness. He has a secret bitterness hidden
away in his soul called sin that cannot be revealed to any but
God his Savior whom he's pierced. People come to me sometimes and
want to confess sin. And I say, shh, shh, shh. I don't
want to hear it. I don't want to hear it. I don't
need to hear it. And it won't do you any good
to tell me, go talk to God. Go talk to God. You must come to Christ yourself
personally. You must repent yourself personally. You must mourn for your sin yourself
personally and alone. A third person, any third person,
be that person, parent, peer, preacher, or priest, is but an
intrusion. And if another one enters in,
you'll never come. Here's fourth thing. Watch this.
As soon as Christ is revealed, As soon as you look on him whom
you have pierced and find yourself mourning for him as your soul
is in bitterness because of him, as soon as you're convinced of
sin, of righteousness and judgment, as soon as you know your guilt
before God, your filth, as soon as you taste the corruption that
is yours, in that day, verse 13, There should be a fountain
open, open to you and open for sin and uncleanness. How can I express what I want
to say except by personal experience? There came a day in my life when knowing my guilt and my
desperate need of grace, terrified of divine judgment, I tried and
tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and
tried and tried and tried to believe on the Son of God. And
I had folks try to tell me I did believe. And I knew I didn't
believe. And I couldn't believe. Until one day, God, the Holy
Spirit, by the word of His grace, revealed Christ in me. And I found myself in bitterness
for all that I am, looking to Him. And the fountain was open. Why, believing was the easiest
thing I've ever heard tell of. Most simple thing. Believing
Christ was the most delightful thing. I didn't need instruction
from anybody. I could see Him. I believed Him. I could hear Him. I obeyed Him.
Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I'll
give you rest. The fountain opened for sin, because I'm guilty. And he by his sacrifice has taken
away my guilt and for uncleanness because I'm foul and polluted. And he by his grace has washed
me with his spirit in the precious fountain of his blood. And the
fountain, once opened, remains open for all who need it. Oh, now I see the cleansing wave,
the fountain deep and wide. Jesus, my Lord, mighty to save,
points to his wounded side. I see the dear Redeemer raised.
I hear the speaking blood. It speaks, my spirit is amazed
and quickened by its flood. I rise to walk in God's own light
above the world and see it with heart renewed and garments white
and Christ enthroned within. the cleansing stream, I see,
I see, I pledge, and oh, it cleanseth me. Oh, praise the Lord, it cleanseth
me. It cleanseth me. It cleanseth
me. Oh, may God do that for you.
About Don Fortner
Don Fortner (1950-2020) served as teacher and pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Danville, Kentucky.
Pristine Grace functions as a digital library of preaching and teaching from many different men and ministries. I maintain a broad collection for research, study, and listening, and the presence of any preacher or message here should not be taken as a blanket endorsement of every doctrinal position expressed.
I publish my own convictions openly and without hesitation throughout this site and in my own preaching and writing. This archive is not a denominational clearinghouse. My aim in maintaining it is to preserve historic and contemporary preaching, encourage careful study, and above all direct readers and listeners to the person and work of Christ.
