Luke 4:32-43
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

Now here's the message for this
morning. Luke chapter 4 from verse 32 down through verse 44,
bring out three thoughts, three gospel nuggets that we find here. I'm taking the title for the
message from what is recorded in verse 32. of Luke chapter
4. They were astonished at his doctrine,
for his word was with power. Now here's the title of the message,
His Word Was With Power. Could His word be anything else
but absolute power? When He speaks, He speaks not
just as a mere man. He speaks as one who is God Almighty,
manifest in the flesh. He said, I and my Father, we
are one. You've seen me, you've seen the
Father. I and the Father are one. Not only were His words
with power, but also His deeds, His actions were with power. Notice verse 36, They were all
amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this!
For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits,
and they obey Him. You see, He speaks as God Almighty. The Lord did not just say He
had all power in heaven and earth, and He did say that, but He demonstrated
that He indeed and alone has all power in heaven and earth. They were astonished at His doctrine,
that is, they were amazed at His teaching. The word doctrine
there is teaching. Oh, may we this morning be astonished. and amazed at the doctrine of
God. The doctrine of God concerning
the gospel of God, concerning the testimony of God, concerning
the Lord Jesus Christ. You see, the gospel of God, Romans
1, 1 tells us, the gospel of God is concerning the Lord Jesus
Christ. You see, the gospel of the Lord
Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation to everyone
that believes. Aren't you glad the gospel has
all power to save? It has to have all power because
I'm so sinful. I would never have salvation,
never have forgiveness without our God and Savior being the
Almighty Lord, the Almighty Redeemer, the God and Savior who saves
His people, the God and Redeemer who does not try to... God doesn't... Don't ever say God's trying to
save somebody. That's just not so. God doesn't
try to do anything. God does. I used to work with
a fellow, every time I'd go years ago when I would travel and work,
I'd go into this particular steel plant, I could name it. And you know how fellows on the
job, they have those hard hats and they put stickers and different
sayings and all these things? You probably have that on the
job, all those hard hat stickers. Coal miners are notorious for
that. They have all kinds of stickers. But this one fellow
had this sticker on his hard hat, it would say, Try Jesus. Just try him, see if he works
out for you. No, we believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now remember in our story here
in Luke chapter 4, remember the Lord was terribly mistreated,
brutally assaulted in His own hometown of Nazareth. They wanted
not only to end His ministry, and He just got started. They
not only wanted to end His ministry, but they also wanted to end His
life. When you pick somebody up by
the hand and the feet, and toss them over a cliff, head first,
You don't mean them anything but harm, do you? They wanted
to end his life. They had murder in their heart.
Murder in their heart. Such is the sad state of our
fallen, sinful nature, loving self and hating God. You see
a picture of what true humanity really is. And that's a picture
of us. There's none righteous, no not
one. We read the Lord never returned back to Nazareth again. He turned and walked away from
His home church, His home synagogue. He left them in that synagogue,
in that congregation of Jews, to perish in their own willful
unbelief. How dreadful is that state, to
be left alone by God. You see, the Lord says of those
Jews, they were ignorant of God, going about to establish their
own righteousness before God. And you know what He says about
that? Turn to Luke chapter 16 verse 15. Luke 16 verse 15. And these are the same folks
that wanted to end His ministry and end His life. and thought
they were justified in doing so." Luke 16, 15. Our Lord said,
"...you or they would justify yourselves before men, but God
knows your heart, for that which is highly esteemed among men
as an abomination in the sight of God. These men were ignorant
of themselves, they were ignorant of God, and going about to establish
their own righteousness by the deeds of the law. And by way
which we read, by the way which we read, by the deeds of the
law shall no flesh be justified in His sight. I trust you listened
to the radio program this morning. If you didn't, you can catch
a rerun I rerun Monday morning on Sermon Audio. And I loaded
up Sermon Audio in the morning first thing and you can download
it or you can even download it or listen to it or you can email
it to a friend. Say, well, I have a friend who'd
like, I'd like to have a friend, I'd like for them to listen to
that message. You can email that message to
a friend. Now, three points today. First one is this, from this
text. Notice carefully that even the demon spirits had knowledge
of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Holy One of God. Do you see that
in verse 34? Saying, let us alone, that is
the man that was possessed with an unclean devil. And the devils
cried out, let us alone, what have we to do with thee? Thou Jesus of Nazareth, art thou
come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, you're
the Holy One of God." The devils came out of many and
also confessed that Jesus of Nazareth indeed is not only the
Holy One of God, look at Luke chapter 4 verse 41, The devils
also came out of many, crying out and saying, Thou art the
Christ, the Son of God. And He rebuking them, suffered
them not to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ." Now
who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He is the Holy One of God. Who
is the Lord Jesus Christ? He is the Messiah, the one sin
of God, to redeem His people from all their sin. These same
demon spirits, if you turn back to Matthew 8, verse 29, Matthew
8, verse 29, verse 28, we'll begin reading in Matthew 8, 28. And when he was come to the other
side in the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with
devils, coming out of the tomb, exceeding fear, so that no man
might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out,
saying, What have we to do with thee? Jesus, thou Son of God,
he's the Holy One, he's the Christ, he's the Son of God, art thou
come hither to torment us? They knew that they were subject
to judgment and eternal condemnation. Torment us. Before the time,
we read in Jude, the book of Jude, verse 6, the angels which
kept not their first estate, talking about the fallen angels,
the demon spirits, but left their own habitation, hath He reserved
an everlasting change under darkness unto the Judgment of that great
day, we see the demon spirit confessing that he is the Holy
One of God, that he is the Christ of God, and that he is the Son
of God. You remember from our study in
the book of James, where James said, Thou believest that there
is one God? You do well. The devils also
believe and tremble. Now, what can we learn from this?
This knowledge that they had was knowledge unaccompanied by
faith, hope, and love. They did believe, but they had
no love for the Lord Jesus Christ. They did believe, but they had
no hope of redemption. It was unaccompanied by love
to God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who possessed
it were miserable, fallen beings. They had knowledge, but no faith. They had knowledge, but no hope.
They had knowledge, but no love. They were possessed with a bitter
hatred both against God and man, even though they acknowledged
and confessed the Lord Jesus Christ is God. Now here's where
I want to help us this morning. A mere head knowledge of right
doctrine and true doctrine is not salvation. Now you can learn
all the doctrine, all the right doctrine. You can embrace all
the doctrines of grace. You can recite all the five points
of Calvinism and not miss a beat. And you can know all the five
points of Calvinism and miss Christ altogether. You see, salvation
is not just a doctrine. Salvation is in a person, the
Lord Jesus Christ. He that hath the Son hath life.
He that hath not the Son hath not life. So you can have right
knowledge and right doctrine, but my friend, I want His truth
placed in my heart that I might look to Him and love the Lord
Jesus Christ. You see, salvation is a spiritual
knowledge and a spiritual revelation and a saving interest accompanied
with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ and repentance toward God that makes us new creatures
in Christ Jesus. That which inspires us, His love
toward us. We love Him only because He first
loved us. Which inspires us. being new
creatures in Christ, inspires us to complete devotion, that
compels us to total sell-out and surrender, that inspires
us to genuine love for Christ and His people. Our Lord said,
without love, we are nothing. Love to Christ. Salvation is
knowing God as He's revealed in the person and work of the
Lord Jesus Christ. John 17, we read, This is eternal
life, that they might know Thee, the only true God, Jesus Christ,
whom God has sent. And the glory of God is revealed
and shines in the face of Thee, Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation
is not a matter of... Now listen to me carefully. Salvation
is not a matter of what I believe. You can believe all the right
doctrines. Salvation is not a matter of
what I believe, but rather it is a matter of whom I believe. Whom I believe determines my
doctrine. You see what I'm saying? Whom
I believe determines the doctrine of Christ and the doctrine of
God. Now let me show you Scripture.
Turn over here to 2 Timothy. Can you find 2 Timothy? Chapter
1, 2 Timothy chapter 1. Now, I wouldn't belittle right
doctrine. Right doctrine is necessary.
But we only arrive at right doctrine through the right Christ of God.
The Gospel is called the doctrine of Christ, the doctrine of God. You see, you can preach all about
election, and you can know all the ins and outs of election,
But my friend, you must never forget that election is nothing
without Christ who is the elect. That's the point I'm trying to
make. Now, find 2 Timothy 1 verse 12. Paul says, I'm appointed
a preacher, an apostle, verse 11, a teacher of the Gentiles,
for the which cause I also suffer these things. Nevertheless, I'm
not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed. Now, Paul knew
what he believed. But what he believed was determined
by who he believed. For I know whom I have believed,
and I am persuaded that he is able, that's the doctrine of
God's sovereignty, that he is able to keep that which I have
committed unto him against that day. What have we committed unto
Him? Everything in salvation. That
is the doctrine of accomplished salvation. But it all comes from
Him. He is the Savior. He is the Christ. We arrive at right doctrine only
through the Lord Jesus Christ. We are told in Scripture, 2 Corinthians
13, 5, we are told to examine ourselves whether we be in the
faith. Prove your own selves, know ye
not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except
you be a reprobate. Christ in you is a hope of glory,
Colossians 1.27. Now, stay with me here on this
first point, some vital question. Does my knowledge of the gospel
and the knowledge of grace make me gracious to others? Well,
the gospel does if you're a new creature in Christ. Does my knowledge
of His sovereign mercy make me merciful to others? Does my knowledge
of His full atonement for my sin and forgiveness received
by His blood cause me and compel me to forgive others? You see,
Christ in you is a hope of glory. Who have sinned against me? Does
my knowledge of His full atonement for my sin and the forgiveness
we've received by His blood cause me and compel me to forgive others
who have sinned against me? Were it to love one another and
to forgive one another, even as God for Christ's sake has
forgiven us? Does my knowledge of Christ cause me to trust Him
at all times and to tell others? Of this One who is almighty to
save, we are to trust Him at all times, ye people. Pour out
your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Does
my knowledge of His will cause me to seek, to obey His will,
and to pray, Lord, not my will, but Thy will be done? You see,
it's just more than head knowledge of right doctrine. The gospel
of the Lord Jesus Christ, when He invades our heart, He invades
our mind, our will, our thoughts, our affections, the whole person
that we are. It affects all of us. And it's
Christ in you. It's just not learning some doctrine.
You can learn A, B, C, and 1, 2, 3, but it's much more than
that. It's knowing Him who is life
in salvation. Salvation is a total sell-out
and surrender to the Lordship of Christ as God and Savior.
As Saul of Tarsus, when he was whittled down and put in the
dust on his road to Damascus, his road of rebellion, he cried
out, Lord, what would you have me to do? Total surrender. Or as Isaiah said, Here am I,
Lord, send me. The Lord said, Whom shall I send,
and who will go forth? Isaiah 6 verse 8. And then said,
I, here am I, send me. Total sell-out, total surrender. So that's the first point. Salvation
is more than just... You see, these demon spirits,
they knew that He was the Son of God. They knew He was the
Christ of God. They knew He was the Holy One
of God. But were they saved? No. No. And I'm fearful that sometimes
people have the idea, well, we learn right doctrine. And I'm
not, again, I'm not belittling right doctrine. That right doctrine
is good. But we arrive at salvation and
doctrine of salvation through Christ. Christ and Him crucified. And here's a second point. The
Lord Jesus Christ is almighty to save. He is almighty to save. And we see that demonstrated
here. They were astonished at his doctrine,
for his word was with power, Down again in verse 36, what
a word is this, for with authority and power he commanded the unclean
spirits and they come out. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
Almighty Savior. He's not a peanut Savior. He's
not a weak-kneed Savior that, well, He wants to, but He can't,
you won't let Him. No, that's not the Savior that
we read of in Scripture. He's the Almighty Savior. If
you want to find, don't turn, if you don't want to, but if
you want to read with me, I'm going to turn and read Isaiah
63, 1. Isaiah 63, 1. Who is this that
cometh from Edom, with died garments of Basra, this that is glorious
in his apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength?
I that speak in righteousness mighty to save." That is talking
about none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, the elect of God,
the One who has come to save His people. The Lord Jesus Christ
is almighty to save. He demonstrates His power over
the demon spirits. He rebukes them. And what happens? They obey Him. He rebuked the
fever in Peter's mother-in-law, and immediately she was healed,
so much so that she ministered to them. He laid his hands on
the sick, it says in verse 40. He laid his hands on the sick,
Luke chapter 4 verse 40, and healed every one of them. He
demonstrated beyond doubt that He is the Christ of God that
has come to heal His people and to set the captive free. You
remember in Luke chapter 4, look at verse 18. He demonstrates
that He is the mighty Savior come to save His people. Luke
4.18, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed
me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captive, recovering
of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And He closed the
book. gave it to the minister, and
sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue
were fastened on him. And he began to say, This day
is this scripture fulfilled in your ear. He is the mighty Savior
to save his people from their sin. Our blessed Redeemer has
all power to redeem sinners. raise them from the dead, and
make them new creatures in Christ Jesus. Our God and Savior has
total and all authority, all power, because He is the sovereign
God. Notice verse 36 one more time. Luke chapter 4, They were all
amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this!
For with authority and power He commanded the unclean spirits,
And they come out. Our God and our Savior has total
and all authority and all power because He is the sovereign God. You add those three things up,
authority, power, and His command, and it adds up to He's the sovereign
of the universe, the God of all the earth. Whatsoever the Lord
please, that's what He did in heaven and earth, seas, and all
deep places. The One we worship is indeed
Almighty God. He is God our Savior. The Lord
Jesus Christ has absolute authority and power to accomplish our salvation. If He does not, if He's not Almighty
to save, this sinner has no hope. Because I'm so wicked, I'm so
guilty, I'm so awful, if He's not the Almighty Savior, I have
no hope, but thank God He is the Almighty Savior. He is able
to save to the uttermost all that come to God by Him seeing
He ever live to make intercession for us. Now I want to look at
six scriptures that demonstrate to us that everything the Lord
did, He did with absolute authority and power. In His death, everything
He did, He did with absolute authority and power. Now, turn
to John chapter 10. Here's the first one. In his
death, everything surrounding his death, And in His death,
He did with absolute authority and power. John chapter 10, look
at verse 15. As the Father knoweth me, even
so know I the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep,
other sheep I have which are not of this fold, them also I
must bring. They shall hear my voice, they
shall be one fold and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love
me, because I lay down my life that I might take it again. Now
watch it, verse 18. No man takes it from me, but
I lay it down of myself. I have power. I have power to
lay it down. I have power to take it again.
This commandment have I received of my Father. Him being delivered
by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, they took
with wicked hands and they crucified the Lord Jesus Christ, But they
did what God determined before to be done. No one took his life. He had power to lay it down,
and he had power to take it again. You see, everything in his death,
in accomplishing our atonement for our sin, he did with absolute
power. Here's the second thing. Turn
to John 17. I quoted this a moment ago, and
we'll read it here in John 17. In giving His salvation, He has
all power to save sinners. John 17. Look at verse 1, "...these
words spake Jesus, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said
to the Father, Father, Thou has come, glorify Thy Son, that Thy
Son also may glorify Thee. As Thou hast given Him power
over all flesh, that He should give eternal life..." All power
over all flesh, "...that He should give eternal life to as many
as thou hast given him, and this is life eternal, that they might
know thee the only true God, Jesus Christ, whom thou hast
sent. I have glorified Thee on the
earth. I have finished the work You gave Me to do." He has all
power in His death, making atonement for our sin. He has all power
in giving us salvation by His grace, and in forgiving sin. Let's turn back to that earlier
reference in Matthew chapter 9. Does He have power to forgive
sin? The blood of Jesus Christ, God's
Son, cleanses us from all our sin. Does he have power to forgive
sin? Matthew chapter 9. You remember the Lord said, Son,
be of good cheer, thy sin be forgiven. Well, the Pharisees
got quite upset and said to the Lord Jesus Christ was a blasphemer. And the Lord knowing their thoughts,
Matthew 9 verse 4, Why do you think evil in your heart? For
whether it is easier to say, Thy sin be forgiven thee, Or
to say, Arise and walk, but that ye may know that the Son of Man
hath power on earth to forgive sins. Then he said to the sick
man that was paralyzed, Arise, take up thy bed, and go into
thy house. And he arose and departed. But
when the multitude saw it, they marveled and glorified God, which
hath given such power. unto this one Son of God, the
God-Man Mediator." You see, everything we look at concerning the gospel
that is the power of God unto salvation in His death, in giving
us salvation and life in Christ, in forgiving our sin, He has
all power, and in keeping us. How about in keeping us? Does
He save us and then just shove us out and say, well, now do
the best you can? Thank God that's not the case. Turn over here
to 1 Peter 1. You see, He says, I give My sheep
eternal life, and they shall never perish. My sheep hear My
voice, I know them, and they follow Me. This is 1 Peter 1. He has all power to save us,
all power to put away our sin, and thank God He has all power
to keep us. 1 Peter 1, verse 3, Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to
His abundant mercy hath begotten us again to a living hope by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance
incorruptible and defiled, that fadeth not away, reserved in
heaven for you, who are kept by the..." What's that word? Power. By the power of who? By the power of God. If God doesn't
keep me, I'm a goner. He not only saves me, but He
keeps me by His power. Kept by power, power of God,
through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed at this
last day. Now, can you find Jude, the little
book of Jude, right before the revelation? He's able, verse
24, Now unto him that is able, to keep you from falling, and
to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with
exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory, majesty,
dominion, and power, both now and forever." You see, the Kingdom
of God is not in word only, but in power. Aren't you glad He
has all power? And in believing the Gospel.
In believing the gospel, turn to Ephesians chapter 1. We only
believe the gospel of God by the working of His mighty power. Ephesians chapter 1 verse 18, "...the eyes of your
understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the
hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His
inheritance in the saints, what is exceeding greatness of His
power to usward who believe according to the working of His mighty
power." What kind of mighty power does it take to cause us to believe
the gospel? "...which He wrought in Christ,
when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right
hand in heavenly places, far above all principality, and power,
and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not
only in this world, but that which is to come." He has all
power to cause us to believe the gospel. You remember the
scripture, Psalm 110, Thy people shall be willing, Thy people
shall be willing in the day of His power. Now, you see what's
being said here? He has all power to save His
people. Power to put away our sin, power
to give us life, power to forgive our sin, power to keep us, power
to cause us to believe, and power to make us willing in the day
of His power. make us willing to bow and submit
unto Him, His way and His will. Now, I told you I had three points
this morning, right? Now here's the last one. Here's
the last one. We see also something else in
these verses taught that's very important. Look back at verse 31. Luke chapter
4, He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He taught
them on the Sabbath day. And they were astonished at his
doctrine, for his word was with power. What was he doing? He
was teaching them right doctrine, right teaching. Again, in this
same chapter, look at verse 43 and verse 44. He said unto them,
I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also, for
therefore am I sent. And he preached in the synagogues,
the assembly of the Jews, the synagogue of Galilee. Now, here's the third thing.
we see the importance placed upon preaching of the gospel
of the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught them in the synagogue,
and then he said, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities. You remember what he said in
Luke chapter 2 verse 49? He said that I must be about
my Father's business. And then what he said here in
verse 18 of this same chapter, where it said, the Spirit of
the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor. The Lord Jesus Christ was a preacher,
a preacher of the gospel. The Lord Jesus Christ was sent
from God with the gospel truth. He was a preacher of the Gospel.
God will bless the preaching of the Word. Let us always make
great use of the means that God has ordained to call out His
people. It pleased God by the preaching
of the Gospel to call out His people. Find 2 Timothy one more
time, chapter 4. 2 Timothy, chapter 4. This charge that Paul, the apostle,
speaking with the authority of God by inspiration of Scripture,
instructs the church, 2 Timothy 4, verse 1, I charge thee therefore
before God and the Lord Jesus Christ who shall judge the living
and the dead, the quick and the dead, at the appearing of his
kingdom, I charge thee to preach the Word, preach Christ. Be instant, in season, out of
season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they
will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall
they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears, they shall
turn their ears away from the truth and shall be turned unto
fables." There is a necessity of preaching, preaching, preaching,
Christ and Him crucified. Christ and Him crucified. Let
us beware of those that would belittle the preaching of the
gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as not necessary. Now, is it
necessary? God said it is. Turn to Romans
chapter 10. Let us beware of those who belittle
or make light of preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus
Christ. I know in most churches today,
preaching has been relegated to the scrap heap. That's why
nobody believes the Gospel anymore. The problem is not in the pew,
the problem is in the pulpit. The problem is right here. If men would preach the Gospel
of God's grace, preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the
Lord would bless that to the salvation of His people. Look
what it says here in Romans 10, verse 13. Whosoever shall call
upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now, on the name of
the Lord, how shall they call on Him in whom they have not
believed? How shall they believe in Him
of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without
a preacher? You cannot believe what you have
not heard. That's impossible. How shall
they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful
are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, that bring
glad tidings of good, that saith the Lord reigneth." And that's
what it says in Isaiah 52.7. Now listen to me in closing. I've got just a few comments.
The church, and I mean by that the local congregation, is never
stronger than the pulpit. never stronger than the preacher.
When the church is strong, it's because the preaching is strong
and true and right. The mere fact that the eternal
Son of God undertook the office of a preacher should satisfy
us, should satisfy us that preaching is one of the most valuable means
of grace that God has ordained to call out his elect, to feed
us with the word of truth, To comfort us in a time of trial,
one of the principal engines employed while on this earth,
we should do likewise, make much of preaching. And that is exactly
what we do right here. It's Zebulon, isn't it? We meet. We've been meeting here, started
at 11.15 and now it is 12.17 and we've taken up the most part
of this hour doing what? Preaching from the Word, I've
turned and I've read you word for word, line upon line. Let us make much of the preaching,
God will bless it. He'll bless the preaching of
the Word, teaching each line of Holy Scripture. That's why
we go book by book, verse by verse, word by word. Because
everything God has given to us is to be preached and to be declared. Our Lord said, go into all the
world and preach the gospel to every creature, everyone. And He said in Matthew 28, He
said, all power is given to me in heaven and earth. Now go therefore
and preach the gospel, knowing I have all power. I go preaching
the gospel. And I'm not a bit concerned about
who's going to believe it and who's going to reject it. I'm
not a bit concerned about that. I have nothing to do with that.
I simply declare the gospel, and that repeating what God has
already said, and He drives it home to the heart of His people.
He said, My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow
Me. One preacher years ago said, when we're done preaching Christ,
we had better be done with preaching. We are determined, as the Apostle
Paul, determined to preach nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
One of the greatest blessings God has given to His church are
faithful, God-called, God-sent preachers. What is a preacher? A beggar telling other beggars. where bread is found. If you
walk into my study, there's a picture in there of an old, wrinkled
up preacher. His name was Scott Richardson.
And at the bottom of that picture, there is a quotation. If I can
remember what it said, a preacher is a nobody who tells everybody
about somebody who can save anybody.
