Luke 2:25-35
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Luke chapter 2, I want to bring
you a message today from verse 25 down through verse 35. And I'm entitling the message
from verse 30 and verse 31. And the title will be, Salvation
which God has prepared. Simeon says, Lord let me depart
in peace according to thy word, for mine eyes have seen thy salvation
which thou hast prepared." Salvation that we enjoy is salvation that
has been prepared, planned, and purposed by God from all eternity. The cross of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and I mean by that Christ crucified, was not an afterthought of God
when Adam sinned against God. Before there was a sinner, there
was a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Before Adam sinned against
God, the Lord Jesus Christ stood as a surety, the mediator of
the everlasting covenant of grace. The Lord Jesus Christ stood as
our Savior before the foundation of the world. He stood as our
surety. He stood as our sacrifice for
our sin. We know that because of the record
of scripture. Revelation 13 verse 8 declares,
the Lord Jesus Christ is a lamb slain from the foundation of
the world. Again, we read in the preaching
of Peter at Pentecost, him being delivered by the determinate
counsel and foreknowledge of God. And then when Peter writes
about how we are redeemed, we are redeemed with the precious
blood of Christ, he is the lamb that is slain or foreordained
before the world began." You see, this is salvation that's
not an afterthought of God. It's not an afterthought. Well,
Adam messed up. Adam sinned. God doesn't say,
well, now what am I going to do? No. Before there was a sinner,
the Lord Jesus Christ stood as the Savior. There was salvation
already prepared for Adam and those in Christ. the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior,
our Mediator. Now let me set the table for
this message with this introduction. When Mary and Joseph brought
the Lord Jesus Christ into the temple, they brought him there
to present Mary's firstborn son unto the Lord to be used of the
Lord for holy purposes unto the Lord. Now this is verse 22. When the days of her purification
according to the law of Moses were accomplished, this is 40
days after the birth, according to the law, they brought him
to Jerusalem. They brought him to the temple
in Jerusalem to present him I love this, to present him to the Lord. This is the Lord being presented
to the Lord. Now wrap yourself around that
a while. Think about that for a moment or two. Simeon, we know,
was also brought there to meet, as it says in verse 25, and behold,
there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. Simeon
was also brought there to meet One who was called, in the book
of Daniel, three times in chapter 7, the Lord Jesus is referred
to as the Ancient of Days. The Ancient of Days. Who was
then, in this reading here, and at this time, was made flesh,
an infant of 40 days old. He's the Ancient of Days, and
yet he's an infant of days old. The scripture said of Christ,
a body has now prepared for the Lord Jesus Christ. What a marvel! The incarnation of God in human
flesh. The Word was made flesh. The
Word that was with God. The Word that was God. Without
controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest
in the flesh. What a marvel is the incarnation
of God in human flesh. Who is the Lord Jesus Christ?
He's God. Our Lord said, he that seen me
hath seen the Father. I am my Father, we are one. Is this necessary for our salvation? Absolutely. Without the Lord
Jesus Christ coming as the God-man mediator, he would have no body
to offer unto God as an offering for sin. Would he? He could not
bear our sin in his own body on the tree had he not a real
body. You say, well, how can God die
for the sin of his people? Well, God can't die, but the
God-man mediator did. Thank God he did. What a marvel
to think about the incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now,
this meeting that took place this day, it says in verse 25,
and behold, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name
was Simeon. Now how did he get there? Why
is he there? Did they just bump into one another?
Was it just a meeting of circumstances or happenstance or blind fate
or something? Luck? Chance? No, my friend. This meeting that happened this
day was ordered and ordained of God from all eternity, waiting
for this day. to come to pass. Just waiting
for this time when Simeon would have the privilege with eyes
given to him, not only eyes of faith, but real eyes, physical
eyes, to behold the Lord Jesus Christ. And all this comes to
pass by the sovereign providence of God, doesn't it? In this man Simeon, We see a
fit description of every believer is described for us right here
in Simeon. No doubt, Simeon was a sinner,
a sinner born in Adam, shaped in iniquity, with Adam's guilt,
Adam's sin, charged to him. Simeon was a sinner that was
justified before God. Well, how do I know that? Look
what it says. Simeon, the same man, was just. Now was he justified by the deeds
of the law? God never justified one sinner
by the deeds of the law. By the deeds of the law shall
no flesh be justified. You cannot be justified by any
of your doing. But the Lord says here of Simeon,
he was just. That means he was justified.
That means he was made righteous before God. God says so. He was
justified. He was a sinner saved by grace. The Lord justified him. This
is the only time we read about him in the record of Scripture.
He's just mentioned here one time. But we know this, he was
chosen of God from all eternity. to be justified in Christ. And He was. The foundation of
God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that
are His. This is true of every believer
in Christ. Before the foundation of the
world, God chose His people. Now listen to me. God chose His
people and justified them in Christ Jesus. Believers are eternally
justified in Christ, and in time they come to find out that it's
so. We are bound to give thanks to
God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God hath
from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification
of the Spirit, which leads us to believe the truth, whereunto
He called you by our gospel." You see, God purposed it from
eternity, and in time, it comes to pass. You don't just bump
into the gospel. God sent you the gospel. God
sent you a gospel preacher. And all this happens by God's
grace. The Lord justifies sinners by
his grace. Simeon here was a just man. were justified freely by His
grace through the redemption that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. It says the second thing about
him, and this is true of every believer, every believer is a
sinner justified before God by His grace through the redeeming
work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The second thing it says about
Simeon, he was devout, devoted, he was devout and waiting for
the comfort of Israel. Notice the reference there is
Isaiah 40 verse 1, where God said, Comfort ye, comfort ye
my people. And then he tells us about the pardon for sin we
have through Christ. He was devoted and sold out to
the glory of God in Christ Jesus. He was waiting upon the Messiah
to see the salvation that is of the Lord. He could say with
the Apostle Paul, I know whom I have believed, and persuaded
he is able to keep that which I have committed on him against
that day, waiting. It's a good thing, my friend,
to wait upon the Lord. It's a good thing to wait upon
the Lord. David said, my soul doth wait,
and in his word do I hope. And this is true of every believer.
justified in Christ, and believers are sold out and devoted to the
glory of God. The gospel of God concerning
the glory of God that shines in the face of the Lord Jesus
Christ. And then something else that
says of him, he was filled, or was full, or the Holy Ghost was
upon him, and it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit that
he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
He was justified in Christ, devoted totally and sold out to the glory
of God in the Lord Jesus Christ, and he was filled with the Holy
Spirit. Now this is also true of every believer. The Holy Spirit
takes the things of Christ and reveals them unto us. What is
the chief and paramount office of God the Holy Spirit? Did you
ever think about that? He takes the things of Christ
and shows them unto us. If you're taught of the Spirit
of God, and the Holy Spirit resides in you, and the Holy Spirit is
your teacher, you know what lesson He teaches? He teaches that salvation
is in Christ. And He teaches us that salvation
is all of Christ. The Lord said, when He, the Spirit
of truth, has come, He'll take the things of mine and show them
to you. And that's what is true of every
believer. The Holy Spirit takes the things
of Christ shows them unto us and brings us to the Lord Jesus
Christ in saving faith. Listen to this scripture, John
6, 44. Our Lord said, No man can come to me except the Father
which sent me. Draw him. And our Lord said,
As many as be led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of
God. No man can call Jesus Christ
Lord but by the Spirit of God. You see, it takes the work of
God the Holy Spirit in our heart to regenerate us, to quicken
us, to make us new creatures in Christ. And when that happens,
look at verse 26, it was revealed unto him. You see, that's the
revelation of the Holy Spirit is Christ. That's what the Holy
Spirit revealed unto us is the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, if you'll
turn to Matthew. Matthew 16. Matthew 16. How do I know if the Holy Spirit
is my teacher? Well, let me ask you this. What
do you think about the Lord Jesus Christ? Is He everything to you? Is He all your salvation? All
of your righteousness before God? Matthew 16, look at verse
13. Matthew 16, 13, When Jesus came
into the coast of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, Whom
do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? And they said, Some
say, Thou art John the Baptist. Some say, Thou art Elijah or
Jeremiah or one of the prophets. But He said unto them, But whom
say ye that I am? Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And the Lord
answered and said, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh
and blood hath not revealed this unto thee, but my Father which
is in heaven." You see, the revelation of God the Holy Spirit to our
heart is to see the beauty and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is true of every Every one
of God's elect, as it says here in verse 26, it was revealed
unto him by the Holy Spirit that he should not taste or experience
death before he had seen His salvation, His Savior, the Lord's
Christ. This is also true of every believer.
Every one of God's elect, they will not depart this life without
seeing the Lord Jesus Christ with eyes of faith and embracing
Him in their heart. You see, saving faith is a gift
of God. Saving faith always looks to
the Lord Jesus Christ, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher
of our faith. All of God's elect will be brought
to Christ in saving faith. They will embrace the Lord Jesus
Christ as all of their salvation and this will happen before they
taste death. We read in 2 Peter 3, 9 that
God is not willing that any should perish, talking about his elect,
but that they should all come to repentance in Christ Jesus. Now look at verse 27 in our text.
And Simeon came by the Spirit, being led by the Spirit. God's
people are led by the Spirit, and they're led into the temple. And Christ is our temple. And
when the parents brought in the child, Jesus, to do for him after
the custom of the law, then took he him up in his arms and blessed
God and said, I'm ready to die. I'm ready to die. Mine eyes have
seen thy salvation. Sidney was led and guided by
the Spirit of God into the temple of the Lord, and there he had
a personal acquaintance and a personal meeting with his Savior, the
Lord Jesus Christ. Now listen to me. This is not
far-fetched. Now listen to me. When we are
led by the Spirit of the Lord into the house of worship, to
worship God in spirit and in truth, we also meet the Savior
personally. The Lord Jesus Christ. The Father
seeketh such to worship Him in spirit and in truth. When we're
led by the Spirit of the Lord into the house of the Lord to
worship God in spirit and truth, we also meet personally with
the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, I can make good on that.
Matthew 18, 20. He said, where two or three are
gathered in my name, I'm in the midst. Is the Lord Jesus Christ? Here with us today, I don't see
him, I don't feel him, I believe his word. He said, where two
or three are gathered in my name, that's where I am. You see, we meet Him in His Word,
don't we? That's what this Word is all
about. We meet Him in the Word. He said
to those Jews, you are they which search the Scriptures, but they
are they that testify of Me. We have already read many Scriptures
this day about the Lord Jesus Christ, how He was manifested
to take away our sin, manifested to destroy the works of the devil,
manifested to abolish death. We have met the Lord today in
His Word. Secondly, we have met Him when
the gospel of God is preached. What is it all about? The gospel
of God is all about and concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. We have
met Him in the preached Word. We're preaching Christ and Him
crucified. And thirdly, we meet Him in one
another. We meet Him in one another. For
we read in scripture, we've been made sons of God. Behold what manner of love the
Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called sons of God.
You see, Christ in you, Christ in you is a hope of glory. You see, when we meet one another
as sons of God and Christ dwelling in us, we meet the Lord Jesus
Christ. That's so. You say, well, that's
hard and difficult. Well, it's just so. It's just
so. It's just true. We meet Him in
His Word, we meet Him in the Gospel, and we meet Him in one
another as the sons of God. Now, notice this, verse 28. He
took Him up in His arms. I can just imagine this. Forty-day-old
baby. That's not very old. Six weeks
old. Took Him up in His arms. I just
got my mind that he presses him to his chest. Precious. This
is my precious savior. To you who believe he is precious. Took him up in his arms. And
then he did something that every believer does. When we take the
Lord Jesus Christ, lay hold of Him by faith, lay hold of Him
with the arms of faith, we bless God, don't we? We praise God. As David said, Bless the Lord,
O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul. This is what every believer does
by faith. We take the Lord Jesus Christ
with arms of faith, lay hold upon Him, embrace Him in our
soul, rejoice in confident hope that salvation is of the Lord.
You see, we are the true Israel which worship God in the Spirit,
that rejoice in Christ Jesus, and we have no confidence in
the flesh. We have a good hope only through
grace. through the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ. You see, that's also a description
of every believer. Verse 29, Lord, I'm ready to
die. When is a sinner ready to die?
Are you ready to die? When is a sinner ready to die?
When he's seen the Lord Jesus Christ as all of his salvation. I'm ready to die. I'm ready to
die. Lord, now let Thy servant depart
in peace. According to Your Word, I've
seen my salvation. I've seen Thy salvation. Simeon declared that now he's
ready to depart and be with the Lord. He said, Lord, let me depart
in peace. That's how a believer dies. He
dies in peace. You know why? because he has
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. He made peace for
us with his own blood. He reconciled us unto God. A
man is never ready to die who does not believe the gospel.
But everyone who believes the gospel, we can say he was ready
to go. And I love this word here. He
doesn't say, Lord, let us now thy servant die. He didn't say that. He said,
I'm going to depart. There's a difference. There is
a difference. You remember the scripture, if
you can find it with me, 2 Timothy 4, when Paul was sitting on death
row in prison in Rome about ready to have the executioner march
him to the gallows and take his head off with a Roman sword.
You remember what he said? 2 Timothy 4 verse 6, For I am now
ready to be offered, time of my departure is at hand. Paul, where are you going? I
know where his body went. It went back to the dust. But
where did Paul go? My departure is at hand. I fought
a good fight. I finished my course. I've kept
the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up
for me a crown of righteousness. A crown of righteousness, crowned
with righteousness. Blessed is the man whom the Lord
imputeth righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day, not to me only, but to all them also
that love his appearing. When is a sinner ready to die?
When that sinner by faith has seen the Lord Jesus Christ as
all of his salvation, as all of his righteousness. You see,
death for the believer is not punishment. Death for the believer
is graduation day. It's to depart and to be with
the Lord forever, which is far better. Death for the believer
is coronation day. You see, the Lord Jesus Christ,
by His death, has removed the fear of death for us. The Lord
Jesus Christ has changed the character of death for the believer.
To be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord.
The Lord has removed the sting of sin for us. He has changed
the character of death for us. And the Lord says in Revelation
14, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. They're blessed. The apostle again said, for me
to live is Christ and to die is gain. You see, Simeon didn't
die. He graduated. He departed from
this life to be with the Lord forever. The Apostle said that
in 2 Corinthians 5. To be absent from this body is
to be present with the Lord. I believe that. That's what the
Lord says in Psalm 116. You know what He says of death?
He said it's precious. Precious in the sight of the
Lord is the death of His saints. It's a precious homecoming. It's
an answer to the Lord's prayer in John 17, 24. Father, I will
that all you've given me be with me where I am, that they may
behold my glory. That's what happens when a believer
dies. He goes immediately into the presence of the Lord. The
Lord said to that dying thief who believed the gospel, Lord,
remember me when you enter into your kingdom. And the Lord said,
today, you're going to be with me in paradise. What a glorious
thing death is for a believer. And Simeon said, I don't dread
death. It's graduation. It's to put
off this old, someone described it this way, a dear preacher
friend of mine. You remember when you were a
kid and they used to have those old, those old shoes, leather
shoes that were hard and stiff and I mean you put your foot
in that old shoe and it would, I mean it just hurt. You'd walk
in it, you'd go to school that first day of school and you'd
have on that old hard leather shoe and by the end of the day
you had blisters all over your feet. Remember that? Oh, I hated
those shoes. And then you get home that evening
and you take that shoe off. Oh, man, that feels so good. That's what death is to a believer.
It's like taking this flesh, that old hard shoe, taking it
off and just, oh, it feels so good. To be with the Lord. To be with the Lord. Now, here's
the ground and confidence of his hope. Verse 30, I've seen
thy salvation. I've seen thy salvation. Here's the ground and confidence
of Simeon's faith. Salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. And this again is every believer's
confidence. You have no confidence in the
flesh. Do you? Well, you know, I've been a pretty
good worker. I've been a good husband. I've
been a good father. Well, I'm glad you have been.
But my friend, salvation is in Christ. Salvation is not in those
things. Salvation is of the Lord and
salvation is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Mine eyes have seen thy
salvation. He that hath the Son hath life.
That leads me to say this. Now listen to me carefully. Salvation
that we so desperately need, every one of us, young and old.
Salvation is in a person. A person. Salvation is not in
a place. Salvation is not in a pool. Salvation
is not in a position. Salvation is not in a persuasion.
Salvation is not in a church. Salvation is not in a confession.
Salvation is in a person. the Lord Jesus Christ. He is
salvation. Christ Himself, He is the Savior. Now, I can make good on that
if you'll find Ephesians chapter 2 verse 19. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 19. For through Him we both have
access by one Spirit unto the Father. Verse 19 of Ephesians
2, Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners, but
fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God,
and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
What is the foundation of the apostles and prophets and every
believer? Jesus Christ Himself. being the chief cornerstone. God said, Behold, I lay in Zion
for a foundation of stone, a tridestone, a precious cornerstone. Salvation,
I've said this for years in the 22 plus years I've been here,
and those who preceded me here have said the same thing. Salvation
is in the Lord. Salvation is in a person. Now,
we must make this point clear in our day Because it's been
so widely denied in our day. They say, well, come and join
our church. It's salvation. No, it's not, my friend. Salvation
not in any church. Salvation in Christ. Neither
is there salvation in any other. There's no other name under heaven
given among men whereby we must be saved. The Lord Jesus in John
14 said, I am the way. The truth, the life, the Lord
said, I am, I am that I am. And then he said in John 10,
I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.
And then in John 11, the Lord said, I am the resurrection and
the life, he that believeth on me shall never die. but shall
have the life of light in Christ. Now, this salvation is of the
Lord, that every believer by a revelation of God's Spirit,
by the grace of God, verse 31, Luke 2, verse 31, which thou
hast prepared. before the face of all people."
When did God prepare our salvation? When did God prepare the believer's
salvation? From all eternity. Now listen
to this scripture. I quote this all the time. 2
Timothy 1.9. I hope I can quote it today.
It's God who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according
to our works, but according to God's own purpose and grace,
given us in Christ Jesus before the foundation of the world."
When did God justify and save His people in Christ before the
foundation of the world? God has prepared salvation for
His covenant people. Call His name Jesus, He shall
save His people from their sin. This salvation of the Lord is
purpose, purposed of God. You can find this because we
were just there a moment ago. Ephesians again, chapter 1. Ephesians
chapter 1. As many as were ordained to eternal
life believe the gospel. Acts 13, 48. Look at Ephesians
chapter 1, verse 11. in whom we also obtained an inheritance,
being predestinated according to the purpose of Him, who worketh
all things after the counsel of His will, that we should be
to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ." Now,
one page, Ephesians chapter 3, read with me, verse 7, Ephesians
3, 7, wherefore Paul said, I made a minister according to the gift
of the grace of God, given unto me by the effects of working
of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints,
is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the
unsearchable riches of Christ, to make all men see what is the
fellowship of the mystery, which hath been from the beginning
of the world, hath been hid in God, who created all things by
Christ. Read on, verse 10, "...to the
intent that now unto principalities and powers and heavenly places
might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,"
now watch it, "...according to the eternal purpose which He
purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord." God saves sinners on purpose,
and it's a purpose that's been prepared and ordained of God
from all eternity. That's our hope, salvation that's
been prepared and purposed and revealed unto us. Verse 32, back
in our text, Luke 2, 32, a light to lighten us. and the glory
of God's people, Israel. A light to lighten Gentiles and
the glory of His people, His elect. The Lord our God commands
the light of the gospel to shine in our hearts. That's how we're
enlightened. By nature we're in the dark,
born in the dark. The scriptures say we love darkness
rather than the light because our deeds are evil. God must
command the light to shine in our heart to give us the glory,
to shine the glory of God in our heart that we might see the
face of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's what happens when God
saves a sinner. He turns on the light. in our
darkened heart, in our ignorant heart, and it shows us that in
salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ is everything. And when that
happens, we glorify God in the salvation of His people. I like
to lighten Gentiles, and the glory of the people is real. The Lord said, I am the light
of the world. He that followeth Me shall not
walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. We read in
Isaiah 42 verse 6, I the Lord have called thee in righteousness
and will hold thy hand and keep thee and give thee for a covenant
of the people for a light of the Gentiles. David said, the
Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear now? Verse 33 in our text, Luke two
verse 33 and Joseph. And Mary marveled. Now they're standing there watching
and listening to Simeon and Simeon has the babe in his arms speaking
these things and they're just marveling at these things. The
good news of the gospel is indeed a marvel unto us, is it not? We read in Psalm 118, this is
the Lord's doing and it's marvelous in our eyes. It's still marvelous
to every believer. The gospel and the good news
of the gospel never gets old. Never gets old. It's new every
morning. It is a marvel that the Lord
could love the unlovely, make us object of His love. God commended
His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us. It's a marvel that the Lord could die for the ungodly
and justify them by His grace. It is a marvel still that the
Lord Jesus Christ would raise us from the dead and make us
new creatures in Christ Jesus. Isn't that a marvelous thing?
It's still marvelous. Now, in closing, notice this,
verse 34 and 35. Simeon blessed them and said
to Mary, his mother, Behold, this holy thing, this God-man
mediator, this Son of God is set, established, for the stumbling
of many. You remember to the Jews, the
gospel is a stumbling stone, a rock of a fence. They said,
away with him, crucify him, we have no king but Caesar. And
again, this same child is set for the rising of many. He's going to take many and make
them just like Christ. And for a sign which shall be
spoken against, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
This child, this gospel and the message of the Lord Jesus Christ
and Him crucified. This gospel is a blessing to
many, to His people, as many as were ordained to eternal life.
Many are raised from the dead and given life in Christ. To
many, the gospel is a saver of life unto life. Christ crucified
is the power of God, the wisdom of God, the glory of God. But
this same gospel is a sign which will be spoken
against. This same gospel is a stumbling
stone, a rock of offense, a saber of death, unto death to many
others. The same gospel of Christ, that
the power of God and salvation will be loved by many and will
be hated by many. It says there, which shall be
spoken against. Spoken against. In Acts 22, when
Paul made his last defense for the gospel, they said to him,
we know that everywhere this gospel that you preach is spoken
against. And it was, in their day and
in our day. All through the book of Acts,
the apostles we see who preached the gospel were persecuted, hated,
and stoned. All the apostles died for the
testimony of the gospel of Christ. Many of the Reformers were burned
to the stake because they would not compromise the gospel of
the Lord Jesus Christ. shall be a sign which shall be
spoken against. We need not expect any better
treatment in our day. Pain and persecution will always
follow those who dare preach salvation by Christ alone, grace
alone, faith alone, to the glory of God alone. The apostle assures
us by God the Holy Spirit, all that will live godly in Christ
Jesus shall suffer persecution. It's given on the behalf of Christ
for you not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his
sake. The gospel of Christ will reveal
the hearts of many. You see that? The last phrase,
the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ will reveal the hearts
of many. The hearts of many will be revealed.
The sheep will hear it and follow Him. The goats will always reject
it to their own condemnation. We'll not have this man to reign
over us. Now my question is this, what
think ye of Christ? You see, the gospel reveals what's
in your heart. What is your attitude and your
thoughts toward the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified? What
think ye of Christ? Can you say with Simeon, mine
eyes have seen thy salvation, or can you say with David in
Psalm Rather, 2 Samuel 23, that the Lord Jesus Christ is all
my salvation, all my hope, and all my desire. I trust that it
is. And if it's not, I pray God would
give you different thoughts. Change your heart, your mind,
your thinking.
