John 14:7-11
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
What does the Bible say about seeing God through Jesus?

The Bible teaches that to see Jesus is to see the Father, as they are one (John 14:9).

In John 14:9, Jesus declares, 'He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.' This emphasizes His divinity and the unity between the Son and the Father. Throughout Scripture, we find that the person of Jesus Christ is the full revelation of God's nature; to understand and know Christ is to understand and know the Father. This profound truth reassures believers of the closeness of God and the incarnate Savior. As stated in John 10:30, 'I and my Father are one,' solidifying the understanding that seeing Christ is tantamount to seeing God himself.

John 14:9, John 10:30

How do we know Jesus is God?

We know Jesus is God through His claims, works, and the affirmation of Scripture (John 14:11).

Jesus' statement in John 14:11, 'Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me,' points to His divine nature. The Bible continually affirms Jesus' equality with God through His claims, such as in John 8:58, where He states that before Abraham was, 'I am,' indicating His eternal existence and deity. Furthermore, His miracles and teachings showcase divine authority and power, substantiating His identity as God. The apostolic witness and Old Testament prophecies regarding the Messiah further confirm Jesus' divine identity, assuring believers that He is indeed God our Savior.

John 14:11, John 8:58

Why is understanding the Trinity important for Christians?

Understanding the Trinity helps Christians grasp God's nature and His relationship with humanity (1 John 1:5).

The Trinity, which comprises God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, is foundational to Christian faith, as it reveals the essence of who God is—a unified and relational being. As stated emphatically throughout Scripture, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct yet inseparable in their essence and purpose. Understanding the Trinity helps believers appreciate how God interacts with humanity, particularly in salvation. In John 17:22-23, Jesus prays for believers to be one as He and the Father are one, illustrating that this divine relationship is also extended to believers. This profound connection supports Christians in their faith and the unity of the church.

1 John 1:5, John 17:22-23

How does faith in Jesus relate to knowing God?

Faith in Jesus is essential for knowing God, as He is the exclusive revelation of the Father (John 14:7).

According to John 14:7, knowing Jesus is intrinsically connected to knowing the Father. Jesus teaches that true saving knowledge of God is accessible only through Him. He embodies the truth of God’s character and the very essence of eternal life, as stated in John 17:3, 'This is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.' Therefore, without faith in Jesus, one cannot truly know God, reinforcing the necessity of faith in one's relationship with the Creator.

John chapter 14. I'm going to bring the message today
from verse 7 down to verse 11 of John 14, verse 7 down to verse
11. I think we can get through these
verses okay. I'm taking the title from the
words the Lord declares in verse 9, the middle part of verse 9. of John 14. He that hath seen
me, the Lord declares to Philip, he that hath seen me hath seen
the Father. How sayest thou then, show us,
show us the Father? Now hold your place here and
turn back a couple pages to John chapter 10. How sayest thou then,
show us the Father? He that hath seen me hath seen
the Father. You remember from John chapter
10, verse 30, our Lord declares, I and my Father are one. We are one. Well, that was good
news, and that is good news, but then it says in John 10,
31, the Jew took up stones again to stone him. They didn't like
what they heard. They understood that He was saying
that I'm God. You've seen me, you've seen the
Father. And they got angry, they got upset. God's people rejoice
that He is God our Savior. Don't you? We do. I have complete
confidence of salvation accomplished because of who He is, the Lord,
our great God and Savior. Now, what a great and glorious
person saving faith looks unto. The strength of our faith, now
listen, the strength of our faith is not found in faith. The strength
of our faith is not found in faith. The strength of faith
is found in the object of faith, who is none other than the Lord
Jesus Christ. He is called, in Scripture, God
our Savior. Saving faith looks back to the
giver of faith. Christ is the author and finisher
of faith. That's why faith is called precious.
That's why faith is called the gift of God. Looking unto Jesus
Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith you see
saving faith How do I know if I have saving faith or not? You
may have just historical faith. You may have just emotional faith.
You may just have traditional faith the faith of God's elect
acknowledges Christ to be the true and living God and looks
exclusively to him for all of salvation now notice As I pointed
out earlier in the reading of this portion of Scripture, both
Thomas, Peter, Philip, and Judas, James, the brother of James,
in verse 22, all addressed him as Lord. You call me Lord and
Master and you say, well, for That's exactly what I am. They all asked the Lord Jesus
questions, and the Lord gave them His answer. Maybe not what
they expected to hear or wanted to hear, but an answer true to
the Word of God, and true to His character as God, You cannot
lie. We have a strong consolation
and comfort because everything that God has spoken is true.
It is impossible for God to lie. He who promised life and salvation
cannot lie. Everything he says is true. We
can believe what He says. It is true. Now, what a privilege
the Lord gives us here as He intimately and closely instructs
these dear apostles, as He teaches them in that day, He also teaches
us this morning. This lesson is relative to you
and me right now. Oh, for ears! Blessed of God
to hear Him. when the Lord was transfigured
before Peter, James, and John, and when He appeared in that
transfigured form in His person glistened like the sun, God the
Father speaks from heaven and said, this is my beloved son,
hear him. Oh, for ears to hear him, his
word and his truth. Now, are you ready to hear a
word from him? Are you ready to go to school
this morning and ask the Lord to be our teacher? I hope so. I hope you come here ready to
be a student submitting unto the Word of God. I want to teach
you this morning what the Lord taught them. I want us to learn
the lesson that the Lord teaches here. The Lord Jesus Christ had
just plainly and powerfully declared that there is no coming to God
to the Father's house apart from Him. You remember the last part
of verse 6? The Lord said, I'm the way, I'm the truth, I'm the
life. No man comes unto the Father but by me. That's pretty definite,
pretty clear. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
way, personified. Truth personified, life personified,
and I mean by that, His person, His person. Christ Himself, He
is the way. He is truth. He is life. This is every believer's only
hope of salvation. It's His person. It all gets
back relative to Him. It's looking to Him and Him alone. You see, to you who believe,
He is Precious to you who believe he is all together Lovely no
man. He says the last part of verse
6 no man comes unto the father, but by me verse 7 if you had
known me you should have known my father also and Henceforth,
you know him and henceforth from this time. You have seen him.
You know him and you have seen him And no man comes to the father
into the spiritual kingdom of salvation, into the Father's
house, the household of God, as sons of God, but by His sovereign
will, His sovereign mercy, by the sovereign grace of God alone. Don't turn, let me just read
it to you again. No man, we read this in Matthew 11 verse 27,
all things are delivered unto me of my father, and no man knoweth
the son but the father, neither knoweth any man the father save
the son, and he to whomsoever the son will reveal him. Now, I'll have you turn to this
one, turn to John chapter 6. No man comes to the Father but
by and through the blood and righteousness of the Lord Jesus
Christ. And no man can come to the Lord
Jesus Christ except the Father draw him. You see, we're shut
up to Him totally, aren't we? To the Father's mercy, to the
Son's redeeming work. John chapter 6 verse 44, no man,
there it is again, no man cometh, can come, no man has the ability
to come, the want to come, the desire to come, except the Father
which hath sent me, draw him, and I'll raise him up at the
last day. It is written in the prophets,
And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that
hath heard and learned of the Father, they come unto the Lord
Jesus Christ. Turn to John chapter 10. John
chapter 10 verse 9. You remember he said back here
in verse 9 of John 10, I am the door, by me if any man enter
in, He shall be saved, and shall go in, that is into salvation,
into redemption, and out of, that is out of death, bondage,
and shall find plenty, find pasture, the green pastures of redemption
and salvation in Christ. He's able to save to the uttermost
all that come to God by Him. Now look at verse 7 again in
John 14. If you had known me, you should
have known my Father also. And from henceforth, or from
this time, you know Him, and you have seen Him." True saving
knowledge of God the Father cannot be obtained apart from true saving
knowledge of God the Son, who is God our Savior. They go together. Where you find one, you find
the other. He who believes one, believes
the other. He who sees the one, sees the
other. The knowledge of both are necessary
unto salvation. The more we learn of Christ,
the more we learn of God the Father. The more we learn of
the Father, the more we learn of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know
that's saying a whole lot. But let me see if I can show
it to you in the scripture. Turn to John 17. Where you find
faith in one, you find faith in the other. He is God, our
Savior. This is eternal life, John 17,
three. This is life eternal. That they
might know the only true God, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ. How do we know Him? As the true
God. How do we know Him? As Jesus
Christ, our Savior. He is God, our Savior. Now, hold your place there in
John chapter 14 and turn over here to 2 Corinthians Chapter
4. There is no coming unto God,
but by the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no knowing God the Father,
but by the Lord Jesus Christ. The revelation of God shines
in the face of Christ Jesus. In 2 Corinthians chapter 4, look
at verse 4, verse 3. 2 Corinthians 4 verse 3. But if our gospel be hid, it
is hid to them that are lost, and whom the God of this world
hath blinded the mind of them which believe not, lest the light
of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. Who
is he? He is the image of God. should
shine into them for we preach not ourselves but Christ Jesus
the Lord and ourselves your servant for his sake for God who commanded
the light to shine out of darkness has shined in our hearts to give
the light of the knowledge of the glory of God that shines
in the face of Jesus Christ. There is no coming to God apart
from Christ there is no knowing God apart from the Lord Jesus
Christ as God is revealed and manifested in him. He that hath seen me hath seen
the Father. Now Philip says unto him after
hearing that henceforth he said from this time ye know him and
have seen him and Philip said verse 8 Lord show us the Father. Show us the Father and we'll
be satisfied. Philip says unto the Lord of
glory, reveal unto us or show unto us and manifest unto us
the Father and will be satisfied. Show us his glory. Give us more. Philip, instead of believing
him, walking by faith, now seems to need to walk by sight. Show us a visible manifestation
of the glory of God, the Father, of God the Father, and we will
be satisfied. We will believe. Show us the
invisible God. Now this should seem strange
and odd to us for Philip to make such a request because God Almighty
was standing right in front of him. This should seem strange
and odd to us for Philip to make such a request but such is the
weakness of our own sinful flesh it is but dust. God must reveal
himself unto us. I tell you how many times this
weakness of our flesh is manifested unto us. And we still have a
problem with this old man. We still have a problem with
this old nature. We have the same problem that Philip had.
Instead of walking by faith, instead of resting in his sweet
and precious promises found in the Word of God, we, like Philip,
start looking for signs. signs, tokens, some special feeling. Rather than believing what is
already given, rather than believing what is already written, we start
looking for signs and tokens and feelings and somehow to get
a measure of assurance or comfort from these things. Our Lord said
back in John chapter 4, remember, He said to those Pharisees, He
said, except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe. Turn back to Matthew chapter
12, and look at this a minute. Matthew chapter 12. Show us the
Father, show us the Son, give us some evidence. What? He just walked with the Lord
for three years, and he's seen so many miracle after miracle,
and yet he says, give us some evidence of who you are? Doesn't that astound you? But
such is the weakness of our own sinful flesh. And because of
that, we start seeking, instead of a walking by faith, we start
seeking evidence of physical things, emotional things. Traditional
thing, instead of walking by faith. Now, Matthew chapter 12,
look at verse 38. Then certain of the scribes and
Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Now, show us a sign. Now, this is so rampant in religious
circles, especially among what we call the Pentecostal people.
They're always looking for some kind of outward sign. But he
answered and said unto them, an evil. "...and adulterous generations
seeketh after sign. There shall no sign be given
to it but the sign of the prophet Jonah." What is that sign? The gospel. For Jonah was three
days and three nights in the whale's belly. So shall the Son
of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
Talking about his resurrection glory. And the men of Nineveh
shall rise in judgment with this generation and shall condemn
it because they repented at the preaching of Jonah as he preached
the gospel. Behold, he said, a greater Then
Jonah is here. You've seen me, you've seen the
Father. Now hold your place there in
John chapter 14, and let me turn and read this to you. You're
familiar with this scripture found in 1 Corinthians chapter
1. The Lord says of those Jews again, those religious lost,
the Jews require a sign, the Greeks seek after wisdom, but
we preach Christ crucified unto the Jews, a stumbling block unto
the Greeks, foolishness unto them which are called both Jews
and Greeks. Christ, the power of God, Christ,
the wisdom of God, Christ, the revelation of God, Christ, the
righteousness of God, the sanctification that comes from God. Now there's
the question. Philip said to the Lord, show
us the father and we'll be satisfied. So what's the Lord gonna say?
Let's consider his answer in verse nine. And the Lord said
unto him, have I been so long time with you and yet you don't
know me? You don't know me that I'm the
father, that I am God? Philip, he saith unto him, He
that hath seen me hath seen the Father. How sayest thou then,
Show us the Father? Now what's being said here? The
Lord answers Philip's question. He could have said unto him,
You sure are dumb. I mean, you're really ignorant.
The Lord could have really rebuked him. But how longsuffering and
how gentle the Lord is. He could have said, you're a
real dummy, but instead the Lord is seeking to help him and to
teach him, to give him understanding and giving wisdom and unto us
as well this morning. Philip, you've been with me for
three, more than three years. Philip, you've listened to my
teaching as he taught. And many said, no man ever spake
like that man. His words have power and authority. Philip, you've listened to me
for three years. Philip, you've seen countless
miracles that I've done. Philip, you watched me call a
dead man, Lazarus, out of the tomb. You watched me give life
to two other dead bodies, raise them from the dead. You watched
me feed 5,000 people. with five loaves and two fishes.
He watched me give sight to the blind. You saw me make the cripple
walk. You saw me command the weather.
You remember he said, peace be still, and the storm stopped. You saw me turn the water into
wine. You saw me cleanse the lepers.
And yet you saying to me, show us who God is? Do you understand
what's being said here? Philip, you've seen all these
things and you don't know that I am God Almighty incarnate in
the flesh. He that hath seen me hath seen
the Father. I and my Father are one. The
Word that was with God and the Word that was God was made flesh
and dwelt among us. Philip, why do you ask to see
what you already see right now? I am God. He that hath seen me
hath seen the Father. He that hath seen me hath seen
God." That's what he's saying. How can you say, show us God,
show us the Father? In the Lord Jesus Christ we have
the final complete revelation of the redemptive glory of God
revealed in no other than in His person. His person. The glory of God, we read it
a moment ago, the glory of God shines where? In the face of
the Lord Jesus Christ. What a grand and glorious statement
the Lord Jesus Christ makes concerning His deity, who He is. I and Father are one. I am in the Father and the Father
in me. I am in the Father, and the Father
in me." Now, look at verse 10. Believest thou not that I am
in the Father, and the Father in me? Here we see the Lord exposes
Philip's problem, doesn't he? Believest thou not? What was Philip's problem? Unbelief.
Unbelief. Believest thou not?" And the
Lord makes this grand and glorious statement concerning His deity,
who He is, I am in the Father, I am in the Father, and the Father
is in me. Now here's what unbelief does. Low thoughts, unbelief breeds
low thoughts of who he is. Unbelief breeds low thoughts
of who he is. Unbelief and low thoughts of
him breeds doubt, fear, bondage, unbelief. True and right thoughts
of him, about him, who he is, what he's done, fosters and gives
us More faith in Him. Stronger faith in Him. Well,
faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Low thoughts
of the Lord Jesus Christ always breeds unbelief, doubt, and fear. High thoughts of Him. You see,
our problem is we think too much of ourselves and we think too
low of Him. The opposite is true. We should
think low thoughts of self, O wretched man that I am, and high thoughts
of Him. Glory, His glory, His truth. Now, the Lord is declaring here
unto these apostles and unto us His oneness with the Father. His unity with the Father. Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. In the Trinity of His sacred
person, He is one, inseparable. Inseparable. The oneness with
the Father. Now let me show you this in John
chapter 5. Turn back to John chapter 5. The unity and oneness with the
Father. In John chapter 5. Look at verse
19, John 5, 19. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father
do. And what things however he doeth, these also doeth the Son
likewise. For the Father loveth the Son,
and showeth all things that himself doeth. And he will show him greater
works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father raises
up the dead, and quickeneth them, even so the Son quickeneth whom
he will. The Father judged no man, but hath committed all judgment
unto the Son. Now look at verse 23. That all
men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He
that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father, which hath sent
me. You see that oneness and unity
was through the Father through the Son. Again, let's read another scripture
over here in John chapter 8. John chapter 8, verse 54. John
8, 54. John 8, 54. The Lord said, If I honor myself,
my honor is nothing. It is my Father that honors me,
of whom you say that He is your God. Yet you have not known Him,
but I know Him. If I should say I know him not,
I shall be a liar like unto you, but I know him, and I keep his
sayings. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he
saw and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him,
Thou art not yet fifty years old, hast thou seen Abraham?
And the Lord said, truly, truly, I send you before Abraham was,
I am. And the same response, they took
up stones again to stone him. So what's he declaring here?
He's declaring plainly that he is God, that he is one with the
Father. They're inseparable. Now turn
to John chapter 12. We've seen this again. I am my
Father, I am one, he says in John 10 verse 30. Now look at
John chapter 12. John chapter 12 verse John 12 44 the Lord cried out
and said he that believeth on me Believeth not on me, but on
him that sent me again. We see that unity and oneness
of the father he that hath He and he that seeth me seeth him
that sent me Oneness with the father now turn back to John
14 and The Lord our God is one Lord. It says that Deuteronomy
chapter 6 verse 4. The Lord our God is one Lord,
yet manifest in three distinct separate persons. Now turn to
1 John, 1 John chapter 5. Here, O Israel, the Lord our
God is one God. That's true, that's so. Manifested
in three distinct persons, God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit. One God, manifest in three persons. Look what it says in 1 John 5,
verse 7. There are three that bear record
in heaven, the Father, the Word, notice that's capital, referring
to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, and these three are
one." One. One in three, three in one. And
there are three that bear witness in the earth, the Spirit, the
water, the blood, referring to His atoning work, blood and water
came out of His side, and these three agree in one. God the Father,
God the Son, God the Holy Spirit accomplished our salvation. Now look back to the text again. John 14 verse 10. Believest thou
not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? You see,
the word that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the
Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. He speaks through
me. Never a man spake like this man.
Now turn one page back to John 12 verse 49. John 12 verse 49. The words the Lord spoke, He
spoke as God. The works that He did, He performed
as God manifests in the flesh. John 12 49 for I have not spoken
of myself but my father the father which has sent me he gave me
commandment what I should say and what I should speak and I
know that his commandment is life everlasting whatsoever I
speak therefore even as the father said unto me that's what I speak
you see the oneness and unity with the father son and Holy
Spirit what is true of one is true of the other Character. Purpose. Character. Holy. Purpose. Eternal. Will. Sovereign. Now look at verse 11. We'll close
with verse 11. And the Lord says, here's the
remedy, Philip. Here's the remedy. Look at verse
11. Believe Me. That's it. Believe Me. Believe Me. Believe
Me. That I am in the Father, and
the Father in me, or else believe me for the very work that I do."
No man spake like that man. No man did the things that the
Lord Jesus Christ performed. The Lord also gives us the remedy
for doubt, fear, and unbelief. Believe Him. Trust Him. Rest in Him. We can say without
any reservation, Sinner, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and
thou shalt be saved with an everlasting salvation. Believe Him, who He
is, what He's done, why, Listen to this scripture. I'll
just read it to you. John 5 verse 24. Verily, verily, I say unto
you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent
me, has everlasting life, shall not come into condemnation, but
is passed from death unto life. What a privilege it is to hear
the word of God and to believe Him, to rest in Him. And if you do, it's because He's
given you life. Again, the Lord repeats that
blessed doctrine of His eternal deity and union and oneness with
the Father. This is how we started. Turn
back to John chapter 1. John chapter 1. Believe me, He says, that I'm
in the Father and the Father in me. John chapter 1, remember? Verse 1. In the beginning, was
the Word, capital W, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. The same was in the beginning
with God. All things were made by Him. Without Him was not anything
made that was made. You see, turn over here to Colossians
chapter 1. Colossians chapter 1. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
image of the invisible God. He is a manifestation of God. Look at Colossians chapter 1
verse 14. "...in whom we have redemption
through his blood, even the forgiveness of sin, who is the image of the
invisible God." Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He's the image
of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by Him
are all things created that are in heaven, that are in earth,
visible, invisible, whether it be thrones or dominions, principalities
or powers. All things were created by Him.
He's God. Who can create? None but God. All things were created by him
and for him. He is before all things. By him
all things consist, all things are held together. He is the
head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead, that in all things he must have the preeminence,
the glory, for it pleased the Father that in him should all
fullness dwell. I look at Colossians chapter
2, verse 9. For in him dwells all the fullness
of the Godhead in a body. Who is the Lord Jesus Christ?
What do we believe when we trust Him? We trust Him as our God
and Savior. In Him dwells all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him, which is
the head of all principalities and power. He is the express
image of the invisible God. It says over here in Hebrews,
don't turn, let me just read it to you, in Hebrews chapter
1, "...who being the brightness of His glory, the express image
of His person, upholding all things by the word of His power,
when He by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand
of the Majesty on high." Now, I want you to turn to this Scripture.
Turn to Matthew chapter 1. Matthew chapter 1. Believe me, Philip, that I am
in the Father and the Father in me. Believe me for what I
do, who I am. Okay, who is he? What does he
do? Okay, you got it? Matthew chapter
1. It's recorded, and this is fulfillment
of Scripture from Isaiah 7, 14. Behold, the virgin shall conceive
and be with child, and thou shalt call his name Immanuel, God with
us. And then in Isaiah 9, 6, remember
it said, For unto us a child is born, a son is given, his
name shall be called, and the government shall be upon his
shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,
the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father. Okay, and here's the
fulfillment, Matthew 1, 21. And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shalt call his name Jesus, that's who He is, Savior,
for He shall save His people from their sin. That's what He did. He is what
He's called. Verse 22, Now all this was done,
that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken, of the Lord by the
prophet, that is, Isaiah, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with
child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his
name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, what does that say? God with
us. He's God our Savior. And because
He's God our Savior, He cannot fail. Now, turn back to John
14. we see with clarity from the
Word of God the oneness and unity between the Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. They are one. They work in unison. They work together. They work
all the purpose of God together to the glory of God. Now, how
is all that oneness and union between the Trinity of their
sacred persons, how is all that relative to me as a believer. What is that? I mean, I've stated
the doctrine. How is that relative to me and
how can we make application to our own heart? Well, let me show
you. Turn over here to John 17. John
17. Look, verse 19. John 17, verse 19. How is all that a blessing to
me right now? This unity and this oneness.
Okay, look at John 17 verse 19. You got it? And for their sakes
I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through
the truth. Neither pray I for these alone,
but for them also which shall believe on me through your preaching,
through your word, the gospel, that they all may be one. What?
that they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and
I in thee, that they also may be one in us. So how's that relative
to us? We're one in Christ Jesus. Read on, that the world may believe
that thou hast sent me, and the glory which thou gavest me. John
17, 22, now look at this carefully. I've given them that they may
be one as we are one. Did you get a hold of that? That
we may be one, that they may be one as we are one. Read one
more, verse 23. I in them, thou in me, that they
may be made perfect in one. Perfect, perfect. that the world
may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou
hast loved me." You see the unity and oneness the believer has
with the Lord Jesus Christ. That's what all this means to
me. Now let me have you turn to one
more scripture. Turn over here to 1 John chapter
4. 1 John chapter 4 this time. 1 John chapter 4. You see, Christ in you, Christ
in you is a hope of glory, isn't it? Not you in the church, that's
not the hope of glory. Not you in religion, that's not
the hope of glory. Christ in you. Now if Christ
is in you, who else is in you? The Father and the Spirit. You
see, you get one, you get them all. Christ in you is a hope
of glory. No wonder the apostles said,
Oh, they may win Christ and be found in him. Now, I want you
to see this scripture. 1 John 4, 17. You got it? 1 John 4, 17. Herein is our love made perfect,
that we may have boldness in the day of judgment. Boldness
in the day of judgment before the throne of God? Boldness?
Liberty? Because, as he is, So are we
in this world. You see what he's saying? What's
true of the head is true of the body. What's true of the son
is true of his church. He loved the church and gave
himself for it. There's that oneness and unity
we have with... He said, I give my sheep eternal
life and they'll never perish. No man can pluck them out of
my hand. You see, our life is hid with Christ in God. in inseparable union. You see
how this oneness is a blessing unto us? What's true of the head
is true of the body. As Christ is the Son of God by
nature, the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
truth, we are sons of God by the blessed adoption of grace. As the Lord Jesus Christ is loved
by the Father with an everlasting, unchanging love, So we loved
of God in Christ, behold, what manner of love the Father hath
bestowed upon us, that we should be called sons of God. As Christ
our forerunner is entered into glory and seated and enthroned,
so is every believer right now in glory, seated in the heavenlies,
in the Lord Jesus Christ, because of our union and oneness with
Him. You see what this is saying?
Over in, I told you that was the last scripture, but if you
want to turn and read this, I won't object, Ephesians chapter 2. You see there is a reality of
this oneness and this unity between the Godhead and between the Lord
Jesus Christ and His church. So much so, what is true of one
is true of the other. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 4,
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith
he loved us, even when we were dead in sin, that shuts out any
merit, doesn't it? He loved me when I was dead in
sin. I couldn't offer anything, couldn't bring anything. But
God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love were with, he
loved us. Now get a hold of that. He loved
us. Even when we were dead in sin,
at quicken us together with Christ, it's by grace that you are saved.
Now watch verse six. raised us up together, and made
us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus, that in the
ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace
and his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. What is true of
one, what's true of the head is true of the body. In him was
all the fullness of a Godhead bodily, As I said earlier, and
in Him, we stand complete. Believe me, He says in John 14,
11, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me. And believe
me, because of all that I have done, He's accomplished salvation
for us. Well, what a blessed, blessed,
blessed truth we have. What a blessed, blessed God we
have in Christ Jesus.
