John 9:24-25
Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
What does the Bible say about salvation?

The Bible teaches that salvation is found only in Jesus Christ, who fulfills all that is required for redemption.

Salvation, according to Scripture, is entirely the work of God and is accomplished through Jesus Christ. In John 5:24, we see that those who hear the words of Christ and believe in Him possess everlasting life, signifying that salvation is a gift extended by grace to those who have faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 further emphasizes that we are saved by grace through faith, and not by our own works. This divinely initiated process showcases the sovereignty of God, who ordains not only the means to salvation through the message of the gospel but also the recipients of His grace.

John 5:24, Ephesians 2:8-9

How do we know true faith is real?

True faith is evidenced by obedience to God's Word and a steadfast confession of Christ.

True faith is characterized by an obedient response to the Word of God, as demonstrated by the blind man in John 9. He acted on the command of Jesus to go and wash, showcasing that saving faith is not mere belief but results in action. This faith holds firm in the face of opposition, just as the blind man did when he confessed Christ before the Pharisees. Moreover, Romans 10:9 teaches that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. Hence, true faith transforms lives and leads to public acknowledgment of Christ as the only way to salvation.

John 9, Romans 10:9

Why is confessing faith important for Christians?

Confessing faith publicly affirms one's trust in Jesus and distinguishes believers in a fallen world.

Confession of faith is crucial for Christians, as it serves as a public declaration of allegiance to Christ, who commanded His followers to proclaim the gospel. In Matthew 10:32, Jesus states that those who confess Him before men will be acknowledged by Him before the Father, highlighting the significance of public identification with Him. In contrast, those who fear human judgment and fail to confess their faith may reflect a lack of genuine belief. Like the blind man in John 9, true believers are called to publicly identify with Christ and the gospel, showcasing the transformative power of His grace in their lives, regardless of societal pressures.

In John chapter 9, turn over
to verse 24 and 25, then again called they the blind, the man
that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise the
Pharisees said of the Lord Jesus Christ. We know that this man,
this man, this man is nothing but a sinner. Sinner. And the blind man answered and
said, whether he be sinful, I know not. But one thing I do know,
that whereas I was blind, now I see. I was blind, now I see. I'm entitling the message from
those words, one thing I know, one thing I No. One thing. Christ is everything
in salvation. Now, down in verse 13, they brought
to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. The neighbors and
the Pharisees all wanted to know how this blind beggar, who was
blind from his mother's womb, how he received his sight. They kept asking, the neighbors
did, how were you made to see? The Pharisees repeatedly asked
this same question, how is it that you were made to see? Every time he gave the exact
same answer. A man put clay on my eyes, he
told me to go wash, I washed and now I see. Now I see. Every time he was asked, he gave
the same direct, simple, single, powerful answer. And no one could
shake him. No one could convince him otherwise
that, well, you know, maybe you don't really see. Oh, no. No. I do see. I was blind. Now I see. No one could cause
him to change his testimony. He knew what happened. He experienced what happened,
and no one could move him. No one could shake him. That
is true of saving faith. This man believed the word and
the command of Christ when he was told, verse 7, the Lord said
to him, it wasn't a suggestion, it was a command of God, go wash
in the pool, which by interpretation is scent, the Lord Jesus Christ
is that scent one, the scent water of life. Our Lord said,
go wash And he went. Our Lord said, go, and he went.
That's what saving faith does. It's obedient to God. He obeyed
the Lord completely, fully, even though the Lord didn't tell him.
He didn't tell him. If you go wash, you'll see. He
didn't say that. He just said, go wash. And this
man believed the naked truth of God and went and washed. This is exactly what faith does. True faith. How true faith acts. It's obedient to the Word of
God because it believes God. Believes the truth of God. You
see, faith and conduct cannot be separated what great promises
gospel promises the Lord gives unto us all the promises of God
in him are yes and in him amen Peter called them exceeding great
and precious promises that by these ye might be partakers of
the divine nature the promises of God he's given us so many
precious great promises that we are to believe Look back over
here in John chapter 5 for just a minute. Back to John chapter
5. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
he that heareth my word, John 5, 24, he that heareth my word
and believeth on him that sent me has everlasting life. What a promise. Hear the Word
of God, believe the Word of God, and have everlasting life, and
shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto
life." Look over at John 6, verse 40. The exceeding great and precious
promises of God. He that believeth on the Son
hath life. John 6, verse 40. This is the
will of Him that sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son,
Spiritual eyes with eyes of faith that seeth the Son, and believeth
on him, may have everlasting life. And I'll raise him up at
the last day." What a great, exceeding great, and precious
promise that God has given unto us. Now, listen to these promises
we read in Scripture. The jailer asked the Apostle
Paul, What must I do to be saved? Do you remember what the Apostle
answered? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and thou shalt be saved. We read in Romans chapter 10,
Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Promises of God. The Word of
God. Believing the Gospel. Believing
the Gospel of the grace of God. You will be blessed abundantly. in Christ Jesus. Oh, for grace. Oh, for faith to believe God. Now, let's look for a moment
at this story here, beginning in verse 13. When this blind
man was healed by the Lord and came home to his family, came
home to his neighbors, and he walked in like he'd never walked
in before. And they said, what happened
to you? It doesn't even look like you. Oh, it's me. I now see you for the first time."
He walked home, a new man. Such is salvation. If any man
be in Christ, he's a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold,
all things become new. In our story this morning, we
see this marvel of God's grace And I pray the Lord will help
us to see this one more time. Why the neighbors, now in verse
13, why the neighbors brought this blind man who was healed
to the Pharisees, I'm not sure. I'm not sure why they did that.
Why the neighbors brought him is not clearly put forth. Why
they brought him to this religious council, what their motive was
is not said. Maybe they just wanted the approval
of the established religious leaders before they could really
accept what had taken place. Maybe they wanted their approval
of it. Or they maybe wanted this man
to confess the Lord Jesus Christ before the Pharisees that they
might have reason to exclude Him from their family, from their
fellowship. But we do know this. Why did
they do that? All things ordained of God. This man ended up before this
council, this court of the Pharisees that he might indeed glorify
God and point sinners to the Lord Jesus Christ. Now verse
14, it says, it was a Sabbath day when the blessed Savior,
the Lord Jesus, made clay. Open the eyes of this blind man. You know, this is the same one
That day he spit on the ground and made some clay in his hand
and dabbed it on that man's eyes but this is the same one who
created man out of the dust of the earth and Breathed into him
the breath of life the same one same Creator Same Almighty God. It was the Sabbath day when the
Lord Jesus made the clay and opened the eyes. The Lord on
purpose selected this day to do this miracle as He did on
many other occasions. Turn back to John chapter 5.
Just as He did with the man who had the withered hand. He healed
him on that Sabbath day to show that He was Lord of the Sabbath.
You remember back in John chapter 5, the man that lay for 38 years
at the pool of Bethesda, verse 6, when the Lord saw him, John
5 verse 6, and knew that he had now been a long time in that
case. Crippled, impotent, couldn't
walk. He said unto him, wilt thou be
made whole? The impotent man answered and said, I have no
man when the water is troubled to put me in the pool, but while
I'm coming another step down. And Jesus said to him, Rise,
take up thy bed and walk. And immediately he was made whole
and took up his bed and walked. And it was on the Sabbath day.
that the Lord had cured this man. The Jews therefore said
to him, that was cured. It's the Sabbath day. It's not
right to carry your bed. This man had never walked before.
Now he's walking by the command of God. And the Pharisees were
upset. Just like the man who had the
withered hand that was healed. They went out when the Lord said,
stretch forth your hand. Well, he couldn't. But he did. That's faith. and it was restored whole like
the other. You remember what it said next?
And they went out and held a council how they might destroy him. Tells you something about our
rotten nature, doesn't it? The Lord Jesus Christ healed
those whom He healed on the Sabbath day to demonstrate that He is
Lord of the Sabbath, to demonstrate that He came to fulfill the law
of God for us. Look at verse 15. Then, John
9, 15, then again the Pharisees also ask him how he had received
his sight. How this happened to you? And
he said unto them, O he put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and
I do see. This man was not intimidated
by these Pharisees, but rather he was not ashamed to own what
was done. He plainly said, this one whom
you hate, this one whom you despise, He made me whole. I now see. Likewise, saving faith, as this
man was not ashamed to own the Lord Jesus Christ. This man named
Jesus, He identified Him. Even though at the time He didn't
fully understand all things, yet He knew something. This man
that you hate, this Nazarene whom you despise, Jesus of Nazareth,
this man put clay on my eyes, and now I see. I see. Likewise, saving faith, the faith
of God's elect is not ashamed to own the gospel of the Lord
Jesus Christ. If you're ashamed of this gospel
of God's saving sovereign grace, there's only one reason. You
don't believe it. Those things you believe and
hold dear to your heart, you're not ashamed to own publicly. Even before this religious crowd,
this religious crowd of these Pharisees here, they had, oh,
they had a death grip on the people. If you didn't toe the
line, they'd throw you out. That meant excommunication, not
only from the synagogue, but from your family. This man, knowing
what would happen, confessing the Lord Jesus Christ, didn't
back down. And saving faith does not back down. It stands for
the gospel. Look at verse 16. They said to
him, then said some of the Pharisees, this man, speaking of the God-man
mediator, this man, look at this statement here. This man is not
of God. This man is not of God. He can't
be. He can't be of God because he
doesn't do what we think he should do. He doesn't keep our Sabbath
the way that we do. He doesn't toe the line the way
we think he should. Because he doesn't keep the Sabbath
day. This man can't be of God. Others
said, how can this man that is a sinner do such miracles? Now look at the last part of
verse 16, and there was a division among them. A division among
the Pharisees concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. Some of them
ignored the miracle and said the Lord Jesus Christ is nothing
but a great vile sinner. They even said, do you remember
back over here in John chapter 8 verse 48? Then answered the
Jews and said unto him, Say we not well? Thou art a Samaritan,
and you are demon possessed. Some of them ignored the miracle. Some of those despised the Lord
Jesus Christ and said, He's nothing but a great sinner. Others said,
maybe Nicodemus, maybe Joseph of Arimathea. They said, if this
man is a sinner or a Sabbath-breaker, how could he do such miracles?
Remember what Nicodemus said of him in John chapter 3? We
know you're a teacher come from God, for no man can do these
miracles except God be with him. And there was a division because
of him. Turn back over to John chapter
7, look at verse 43. We've seen this before. John
7, 43. Verse 40 said, Many of the people,
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth, this
is that prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. Some said, shall Christ come
out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said that
Christ cometh at the seat of David, out of the town of Bethlehem,
where David was? So there was a division among
the people because of him. Now look over to John chapter
10. A division. A division because
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord said in John 10 verse
18, No man take it from me, that is my life. I have power to lay
it down. I have power to take it again.
No man takes it from me. I have power of God, given of
God to lay it down and power to take it again. This commandment
have I received in my Father. There was a division therefore
again. among the Jews for this saying,
and many of them said, he hath a devil and is mad. Why do you
hear him? Others said, these are not the
words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of
the blind? And there was a division again
because of him. You see, the gospel of the Lord
Jesus Christ divides sheep from the goats. The gospel of the
Lord Jesus Christ, when it's set forth, it unites the hearts
of God's people together. They rejoice together in the
gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The other crowd, do you know
what it does? Divides them. They get upset. They choose upsides
and they fight against God and against God's gospel. This gospel
of the Lord Jesus Christ rallies the hearts of God's people. There
was a division, again, because of Him. Now, watch this. The Lord's people are united
together around Him, who He is, God Almighty. What He has done. What He has done. He accomplished
all of salvation for His covenant people. There's no division here.
As to who the Lord Jesus Christ is. And to what He accomplished
for us. He did obtain for us eternal
redemption with His own blood. Now look at verse 17. They say
to the blind man again. What do you say of Him? What
do you think of Him? What do you say of Him, verse
17? That He opened thine eyes. And He said, well He has to be
a prophet. He has to be a prophet of God.
The Pharisees try another plan of attack. Not being able to
convince the blind man that Christ was a sinner and could do no
miracles, they ask him about the Lord's person. What do you
say of him? What do you say of him? Of him? Look at verse 30 for a minute
in John 9. The man answered and said unto
them, wherein is a marvelous thing that ye know not from whence
he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. This man didn't know
all things. He's gonna know more a little
bit later on, but he certainly knew more than these Pharisees
knew. This blind beggar, ignorant, uneducated, he knew that the
Lord Jesus Christ, at least to a minimum, must be sin of God,
must be one who speaks for God, must be God's prophet sent to
God's people. And He is. The Lord gave this
man such a great and true answer. He is that prophet. He is the
prophet of God. He is the one sent of God. The
Lord Jesus Christ is that prophet of God, sent of God, to tell
us the way of salvation. You remember we've seen this
before. Turn back to John chapter 4. John chapter 4 verse 19. You remember the woman at the
well who needed the water of life? And it says the Lord must needs
go through Samaria to meet this woman. And it says here in John
chapter 4 verse 17, the woman answered, the Lord said in verse
16, go call thy husband and come hither. The woman answered and
said, I have no husband. And the Lord said to her, Thou
hast well said, Thou hast no husband, thou hast had five husbands,
and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband, and that ye
have truly said. And the woman said unto him,
I perceive your prophet, you know all things, your prophet,
your prophet, son of God. Now again, turn to John chapter
6, verse 14. when he had fed the 5,000 with
few fish and a few loaves of bread, and they took up fragments,
and everybody was filled. Then the Lord fed the 5,000. Then, verse 14, those men, when
they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a
truth, that prophet. He's that prophet. that should
come into this world. And again, they said he's the
prophet of God. Turn to John 7, verse 40. We
read this a moment ago. Many of the people, therefore,
when they heard that saying, heard this saying, said, if it's
true, this is that prophet. This is that prophet when he
said, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. And they said, he is that prophet. He is that one sent of God, the
prophet of God. Remember the Lord said on many
times, the words I speak unto you. They don't originate with
me, that is my humanity. The things I speak unto you are
those things that the Father has given me to speak. He sent
me, He told me what to say, what to speak. God's truth. Aren't
you glad for God's prophets? sent unto us to tell us the way
of salvation in Christ Jesus. He is that prophet. He is that
priest. He is that King sent of God.
God hath in these last days spoken unto us by that prophet that
Moses said, that God said unto Moses, rather, I will raise up
a prophet from among the people, and he shall speak all my purpose,
all my will, and Those who refuse to hear that prophet, God said,
I'll require it at their hand. The Lord Jesus Christ did manifest
who He really is by these deeds that He performed. Turn over
here to Matthew chapter 11, just a minute. He must be a prophet. He speaks
for God. He does the works of God. He
must be God's prophet. In Matthew chapter 11, look at
verse 2. When John the Baptist was cast
into prison, and when John had heard in prison the works of
Christ, he sent two of his disciples unto him, and said unto him,
Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? And
the Lord answered and said unto them, Go and show John again
those things which you do hear and see. Matthew 11 verse 5,
the works that he did manifest that he is that prophet, that
he is that king, he is that Redeemer, that Savior. The blind receive
their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf here,
the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them,
blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me." Now this
is exactly what God has done for us. He's given us eyes to
see. He's given us feet to run to
Him. He's cleansed us from the leprosy
of sin. He's given us ears to hear Him.
He's raised us from the spiritual grave and made us new creatures
in Christ Jesus. He's nigh unto them that are
poor and needy. The gospel has been preached
to us. Blessed is that man who is not offended in this gospel
of God's grace. Now, back to the story of John
chapter 9. This man said, well, he's a prophet.
He's sent of God. He has God's message. He does
God's bidding, God's business. Look at verse 18. In verse 18, down through verse
22, we see this conversation between the Pharisees and this
man's parents. The Jews did not believe concerning
him that he'd been blind, born blind, and received his sight
until they called his parents, the parents of him that received
his sight. They asked them saying, is this
your son whom you say was, was he really born blind? How then
is it that he sees? His parents answered them, said,
we know that this is our son. And we know that, yes, he was
really, he's never seen, he's been blind from his birth, but
by what means he now sees, we don't know. Or who hath opened
his eyes, we're just ignorant. We know it is our son. But how
all this happened, how all this came to pass, we don't want to
know. We know not he's of age, ask
him." These words spake his parents because they feared, they feared
these Jews. For the Jews had already put
out an agreement and made it public. Maybe they posted it
on the walls of a synagogue. Maybe they had posters printed
and passed them out all over town. The Jews had already agreed
that if any man did confess that he was the Christ, the anointed,
the Messiah, the one sin of God, he'd be put out. Put out. This was a fearful thing to the
Jews to be put out of their hope, put out of their refuge, to put
out of what they thought was their righteousness, to be put
out, to be shoved away, to be cast out. You know what's the
best thing that can happen? The best thing happened to this
man because the Lord found him when he was cast down. I can
identify with that man because that's exactly what happened
to me. When the Lord crossed my path with the gospel and saved
me, justified me in Christ, when I denied before my parents, before
all the religious bunch which I grew up in, Mormonism, you
know what they did? They excommunicated me. And the Lord found me and healed
me and made me a new creature in Christ Jesus. I want to look
at a couple of statements here. In verse 21, and then in verse
22, the word in verse 21, I want to look at for a moment, what
means? What means? What means? And then in verse 22, confess. Confess. Now what means? Now
here's what led me to think about that word. Turn to Acts chapter
4. What means? You know God uses means. And this particular story, it
was mud in the eye. The means that God ordained,
mud in the eye. Now we would think, well those
were useless means. Those are senseless means. Not
if God ordained it. Not if God blessed it. In Acts
chapter 4, we find here Peter and John, before this same council
of the Pharisees, maybe the Sanhedrin council. And John and Peter had
just, by the power of God, you remember there was a beggar at
the temple who said, give me some alms, I need some money.
And Peter said, silver and gold I don't have, but such as I have
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, rise up and walk. And
that man went leaping and praising God. And you know what? It got
him in trouble. And when these Pharisees heard
that this man had been healed in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ, they said, verse 7 of Acts 4, when they had set them
in the midst, they asked, by what power or by what name have
you done this? Boy, same thing, isn't it? Then
Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, You rulers of
the people and elders of Israel, if we this day be examined of
the good deed done to this impotent man, helpless man, by what means,
there it is, by what means he's made whole, be it known unto
you, to you all, all the people of Israel, that by the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Now, do you know what they could have
said? They could have said here, and telling the truth, they could
have said, the God of Israel raised up this man, and that
would have been true, but they confessed the Lord Jesus Christ,
you see? By the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God, you see, that was the
issue. It was Christ crucified. Whom God raised from the dead.
Even by Him, by Him, does this man stand here before you complete
whole. This is that stone which was
said of not of you builders, which has become the head of
the corner, neither is there salvation in any other name,
for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby
we must be saved." That's the means. But what means He's made
whole? The Lord Jesus Christ. The means
God has ordained to accomplish His purpose will certainly glorify
Him in all things. God has ordained the means to
arrive at that end. Christ crucified. God is determined
to glorify people. He's predestinated them to be
just like Christ. But He's also predestinated the
means to arrive at that end. Christ must be crucified. The
gospel must be preached. God will call out His people
with the preaching of the gospel. And then it says here, they would
not confess Him because they feared. They feared. Now turn to John chapter 12 and
let's read this. They feared the Jews. They feared
the religious people. We see the same thing going on
today. Look at John chapter 12. Verse 42. Nevertheless, among
the chief rulers, that's the Pharisees, also many of them
said they believed on Him, but because of the Pharisees, they
did not confess Him. They would not confess Him lest
they should be put out of the synagogue. Look at the next verse. John 12, 43, you got it there?
Underscore this. For they loved the praise of
men more than the praise of God. They would not confess the Lord
Jesus Christ to be all of salvation, because they feared the Jews,
and they loved the praise of men more than the glory of God. In Proverbs 29 it says, "...the
fear of man bringeth a snare. But whoso putteth his trust in
the Lord shall be safe in him." The true faith, the faith of
God's elect, is not afraid to confess publicly and to be identified
openly where the gospel of God's grace is preached. What we really
believe is what we delight to confess in. In Matthew chapter
10, if you want to jot this down, we won't turn there, let me quote
it to you. In Matthew chapter 10 verse 32, our Lord said, Whosoever
therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess before
my Father which is in heaven. And then he said in Mark 8, those
who are ashamed of me in this day, I'll be ashamed of them
in that day. Depart from me, I never knew
you." You see, confessing Christ is a blessing that the saints
of God enjoy. Publicly identifying with the
Lord in believers' baptism, publicly identifying and confessing the
Lord Jesus Christ where the gospel is preached. I remember back,
this is 30 years ago, when the Lord was pleased to reveal himself
to me in the gospel. And when we left the synagogue
of the Pharisees, where we were, and we went to where the gospel
of God's grace was preached, some fellow named Mahan, of all
people, Mahan. And the synagogue of the Pharisees,
of which we left, works religion, when they asked me, Well, Tom,
where are you going now? What happened to you? I said,
I found a man over here, son of God, who's preaching God's
gospel over here at 13th Street Baptist Church. His name is Henry
Mahan. And the next word out of their
mouth was this, Oh, Mahan, we've heard of him. And we camped right
there until the Lord sent me here. What a blessing. What a blessing to identify with
the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing the Lord Jesus
Christ. As the Apostle Paul said, I'm
not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, but the power of God
unto salvation to everyone that believes. Do you remember from
Psalm 32, David said, I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and my iniquity
have I not hid? I said, I will confess my transgression
unto the Lord, and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. And then
in Acts 24, I had this on the radio a couple weeks ago, this
I confess unto thee. And this was that same counsel
to Pharisee. This I confess unto thee, the
way which you call heresy, the way I worship God. Believing
all things which are written in the law and the prophets concerning
the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1 John 4, 15, whosoever shall
confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and
he in God. Oh, confessing, confessing our
blessed Savior. What a privilege to be identified
with Him, to own Him publicly, before our family, before our
friends. Remember from our study in 1 Samuel 2, verse 30, our
Lord said, those who honor Me, I will honor them. Those that despise Me, I will
lightly esteem. Now, in closing, let me give
you this. In verse 24 and verse 25. Again, the Pharisees, they weren't
done with this man. His parents said, he's of age. They kind of, they disowned him,
didn't they? He's of age, you ask him. Yeah,
he's our son, but wait a minute. We don't really want anything
to do with him right now. And then again called, They, the man that was blind,
and said unto him, Will you give God the glory? He did. This man did. Give God the praise. We know that this man that said
that healed you, that you said healed you, we know this man, we think he's a sinner, a sinful
man. And he answered the blind man
and said, Whether he be a sinner, I know not. One thing I do know,
I was blind, and now I see. I was blind, now I see. The Pharisees could not deny
that a notable miracle had taken place, but in one last effort
to discredit the Lord, they said to this man, Will you
honor God? This man did. And they couldn't
stand it. They couldn't take it. We know
this man's a sinner, speaking of the God-man mediator. This
man, they said of him, is nothing but an imposter. They called
him a wine-dibber. They called him a gluttonous
man. They called him a friend of publicans and sinners. They even said this man does
what he does in the name of Beelzebub. The prince of devils. This man
demon possessed. They did everything they could
to shake this man. To discredit the Lord Jesus Christ. To move this man from his testimony. This man's a sinner. He couldn't
have made you see. How do you explain this? I see. Look at verse 25. One thing I
know, one thing I know, I was blind and now I see. God gave this man courage and
grace to stand his ground in the face of fierce, mean, ugly
opposition. He said, like Luther, of old
Martin Luther, here I stand, I can do no other. Like the Apostle
Paul said, stand fast in liberty wherewith Christ has set us free. He would not move, He would not
compromise, He would not deny, but boldly declare, I was blind. Now I see. Every believer can
identify with this amazing statement of grace. There may be many things
in Scripture that we don't fully understand. fully comprehend. Most believers are not accomplished
theologians. But they are believers who have
been taught of God. Those who have learned of the
Father, those who have been taught of God, come to the Lord Jesus
Christ. Every believer can identify with
the Apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul said, we know
in part, we preach in part, for now we see through a glass darkly,
But we do know. There's a lot of things we don't
know. There's a lot of things we don't fully comprehend. But
there's one thing we do know. I'm a great sinner. And the Lord
Jesus Christ is a great Savior of sinners. We do know that the
Lord Jesus Christ saves sinners by His purpose and grace. We
do know as believers that we are not redeemed with corruptible
things, but we are redeemed, how? With the precious blood
sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. His blood puts away all our sins. We do know that. We do know that
the Lord Jesus Christ died for the ungodly. Are you ungodly? Are you a sinner? We do know
that God committed His love toward us, and that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. We do know that. We do know,
as believers, that our only hope of salvation is the Lord Jesus
Christ. We have no other hope, neither
is there salvation in any other. We know that, don't we? We're
convinced of that. Salvation's of the Lord. We do
know that God saves sinners by His free and sovereign grace.
We do know that He crossed our path. We do know that He commanded
the light to shine in our hearts. We do know that He made us new
creatures in Christ Jesus. We do know that He has given
us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, that
we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This
is the true God and eternal life. One thing I do know, I'm a great
sinner, and the Lord Jesus Christ is a greater Savior. We do know
that God has given us eyes to see His glory. We do know that
He's given us ears to hear Him speak. Our Lord said in Matthew
13, Blessed are your ears, for they hear. Are your eyes, for
they see." That's the blessed man. We do know that God has
given us a heart to love Him. A heart to love Him. We love
Him because He first loved us. We do know that God has given
us faith. Oh, for a faith that will not
shrink, but rather saving faith, that looks unto the Lord Jesus
Christ. One thing I know, I was blind. That's what Newton came to when
God was pleased to save him. When he wrote that song, Amazing
Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, now I'm found,
was blind. Blind. Now, now I see.
