I don't know exactly how to say
this because I didn't plan or prepare to say it, but while Mike was singing that
song, it occurred to me. Let me give you a word of counsel
and a word of advice. Hold on to the old traditions. Hold to the scriptures that you
have been taught and learned from a child. Paul said that
to Timothy, from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures
that are able to make thee wise unto salvation. Hold on to the
old hymns that you have been singing through the years. Hold
to the old form and landmarks. We don't need new ways to worship
God. We don't need new trends and
new traditions. I'm never blessed any more than
when we're singing Amazing Grace. I'm never blessed any more than
when we hear a special number that glorifies His majesty and
His grace and His love and His blood. The simple old songs. I don't need a concerto or a
cantata. I need something I can understand.
I need something that reminds me of where I came from and who
brought me from where I was and where he brought me to. You understand
what I'm saying? The world is going modern, and
I know we've got to change. In medicine, we learn new things.
We've got to change in various ways of instructing and teaching
our children education. We learn new things. I know that
we as far as food preparation and growing corn and wheat and
whatever. But there's no new message. There's
no new gospel. There's no new way of worshiping
God. Somebody recently said preaching is out of style. We need to change. We need input. We need sharing. We need to sit around a table
and get everybody's opinion. No, you don't either. You need
the old path. You need the way that God ordained
us to worship Him. I'm telling you something you
need to remember. And you young people, as you
grow up and get out and move away and go to other places,
look for a place where they sing those old hymns. Look for a place and a preacher.
who holds to the old landmarks, who will direct you in the worship
of God, the preaching of His Word. You see what I'm saying? It's important. It's so important. Folks are always looking for
something new, but I tell you, the older it is in the Gospel,
the newer it is. His love is ever new. His grace
is ever new. His mercy is evident. And I tell you this, wherever
you go and wherever you are, those things
will be blessed for the Spirit of God to come back to your mind,
back to your heart. They will. Way back 40 years ago, we met
just like we're meeting today. And I told Mike, that song he
sang just then, I heard him and his mom and her sister and Bill
Hoxton sing that 25 years ago, I guess, as a quartet. And it
blessed me this morning just as much as it blessed me then.
And if I'm here 25 years from now, I hope we're still singing
it. I hope we hadn't graduated. I hope we hadn't gotten too modern
for the old past. Is that understood what I'm saying?
It's important. You don't know just how important
it is. Don't know. All right. Revelation chapter
7. Revelation chapter 7. I want to read a scripture here
beginning with verse 9. Revelation 7 verse 9. And after this I beheld, and
lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations,
and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed
with white robes and palms in their And they cried with a loud
voice, saying, Salvation to our God. Salvation is of the Lord,
which sitteth upon the throne and unto the Lamb. And all the
angels stood round about the throne and about the elders and
the four beasts. And they all fell before the
throne on their faces and worshipped God, saying, Amen. the sevenfold praise, blessing,
and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might
be unto our God forever and ever. Amen. And one of the elders answered,
saying unto me, Who? It says what, but it means who
are these? Who are these people? which are
arrayed in white robes, and where do they come from? And I said,
Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are
they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed
their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore
are they before the throne of God. That's why they're before
the throne of God. They're before the throne of
God. They've washed their robes and made them white in the blood
of the Lamb. That's how they can be before the throne of God
and serve Him day and night in His temple. And he that sitteth
on the throne shall dwell with them. And they'll hunger no more,
and they won't thirst any more. And neither shall the sun light
on them nor any heat For the lamb which is in the midst of
the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains
of water, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."
That's one thing to read this scripture with the eye of the
scholar. And it's another, quite another
to read it with the eye of a believer. There was a great actor sitting
beside a friend in some sort of gathering, and for the invocation they had
invited an elderly minister to offer prayer and read some scripture.
And the old gentleman got up and quoted Psalm 23, the Lord
is my shepherd, I shall not walk. He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures, he leadeth me beside still waters, he restores my
soul. And when the old man finished
quoting that beautiful Psalm, there wasn't a dry eye in the
whole place. And the friend turned to the
actor and he said, I've heard you do that psalm many times,
but I've never seen that result. And the actor wisely replied,
the difference, my friend, is I know the psalm, he knows the shepherd. And that's the reason I say reading
this scripture, it's one thing to read it with the eye of a
poet who looks for beautiful things, clever things, earth-shaking
mysteries. It's quite another to read this
scripture as a traveler who's about to take the journey. Isn't that right? quite differently,
as one who's about to go the way of death and the way of judgment. I had a friend call me yesterday,
72 years old. He's a preacher, been preaching
a long time. He said, pray for me. I go in
the hospital Tuesday morning for surgery. I've never been
there before. I've never been operated on before.
He said, I'm scared. I'm concerned. It's all new to
me. I've visited a lot of people who've had surgery. You get what I'm saying? I've
stood beside the bed of a lot of people who've had surgery.
I've never been there. So may the Spirit of God tear
away the veil which covers our eyes and our hearts and enable
us to experience, experience the grand realities that are
in these verses. There's comfort here. There's
instruction here. There's rest and peace here. I wish we didn't have to come
to the door of a place before we start investigating what's
on the other side of the door. But we're that way, aren't we? I wish we didn't have to lie
down with a rattle of death in our throats before we begin to
investigate what's on the other side. It doesn't have to be that way.
If God would give us as much wisdom in spiritual matters as
we exercise every day in these carnal matters. Let's see what John saw. He says
in verse 9 of Revelation 7, and after this, I beheld I beheld,
and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, a great
multitude, which no man could number." You know, here on earth,
John saw just a few believers. When he wrote this, he was alone
on an island to which he had been exiled by the wrath and
anger of the population and the majority. He was an apostle of Christ.
He's the one that was called the Beloved. He's the one that
rested on the breast of the Messiah. They didn't want to hear him.
The majority said, away with him. Exile him. Cast him out. Send him away somewhere. This
old man, 90 years old. Last surviving apostle. There
was ever one dead but John. And there he was. He didn't see
many believers. He wrote one time, we are of
God and the whole world lies in wickedness. He heard his master
say one time, few there be that find it. But here John said, I saw a great
multitude which no man can number. I don't know the number. The
Lord used a definite number to describe an indefinite number,
10,000 times 10,000, thousands and thousands, but I'll tell
you this, the new heaven and new earth is going to be inhabited
by a great multitude. As the stars of the sky, count
them, God said. You can't count them. As the
sands of the sea shower, count them, I can't count them. Don't ever judge the victory
and success of our Lord by your circles. Don't do it. I hear people say,
well, Lord, not doing much in this day. Don't kid yourself. Elijah thought that. He said,
I'm the only one left. They're going to kill me too.
God said, I got 7,000 men. Hadn't bowed their knee to Baal. You've never met. Oh, a great
multitude, a great multitude, which no man can number. Somebody
said to me the other day, boy, one person was converted in his
area, and he said, well, the Lord's still working. I said,
yeah, He's still working all over this world. What He does
where you are has no bearing on whether He's good or not good,
whether He's working or not working, has no bearing on it. Don't judge it that way. I saw
a great multitude, listen, of all nations, of all nations. Our Lord will
wear the crown of all nations." He said, every tribe, every kindred,
every tongue, and every nation. John said, when I looked out
over that multitude, I saw the blue-eyed German and the dark-eyed
Italian. I saw the red-headed, freckled-faced
Irishman, and I saw the dark-haired Negro. I saw people from every nation,
all nations. You know what he said? All kindreds,
all kinfolks, all people. All of them like Christ. But
you know they all retained their peculiarities and their distinctions.
You know what he said? I saw a great multitude and he
said they all weren't black headed, blue eyed. short or tall. They were all nations, all kindreds,
all colors, all people. Somebody wrote me the other day
a letter and said, my daughter and I was having a little argument. Said she insisted that we're
not going to be in heaven in glory like we are now. We're
not going to know each other. We're not going to retain any

We are not going to retain our handicaps and our infirmities
and our wrinkles and our gray hair and our weaknesses, but
we are going to retain our distinction. I fully intend on walking on

what I'm going to say when I see you. You're going to say, well,
hi, Henry. How are you? I know you well. That's right. If I'm not me in
glory, how am I going to praise him for saving me? If I'm not
me and have no memory of the earth, how am I going to say
unto him who loved me and washed me from my sins? When Moses and
Elijah appeared to the disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration,
they said, there's Moses and there's Elijah. Didn't they? Oh my goodness alive. All nations. I saw a great multitude,
John said. of all nations. My Australian
friends will be there. My Ivory Coast African friends
will be there. I fully expect Roberto and Carmelita
and Marta and Armando and Fondalia and Delia and all these folks.
I'm going to say, glad to see you again. We're together forever. You know that. I know that. That's
so. All nations. Go into all the world and preach
the gospel to every creature. All nations, all kindred. My
Lord is going to have a people from every tribe. Let me tell
you something. You remember when you see it
come to pass that I told you, there will be more people in
glory than there will be in hell. You remember I said that now.
January, I can't see anymore. January the 3rd, 1993. 7 minutes to 11 o'clock this morning,
I said, my Lord, it's going to have more people that will ever
be condemned. Because every baby, every handicapped moron, person,
every child, every infant that's ever died will be enclosed. Every
one of them. That is one of the ways he'll
have somebody from every tribe and every nation and every kindred
under heaven. Because the gospel hasn't gone
to every tribe. I ran into a tribe in the Ivory
Coast that I don't believe anybody ever preached to them. They're
still just like they were back down to 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 years
ago. None of them wore anything but
something around their waist here, and they still dug out
canoes out of tree trunks and still speared fish out there
below where they lived and smoked them in their horrible smoking
vats. I walked right through the place,
scared to death, but I walked through it. You talk about out of place.
But they're going to be there. They're going to be there. That
woman that had twelve children and eleven of them died, all
eleven of them are going to be there. That's right. All that my Father giveth me
will come to me. All of them. Of the sheep I have
which are not of this foal, this tribe, this kindred, this nation,
they are my must bring. They are going to hear my voice.
There will be one shepherd, one foal. Read on. I saw what John said.
I saw a great multitude of all nations, kindred, and people,
and tongues. And they stood before the throne. What? They stood before the throne
of God. You know what throne this is?
The throne of justice. The throne of holiness. The throne
of righteousness. The awful throne of God. He dwells
in a light to which no man can approach. Sons of Adam, fallen
creatures, sinners, chief of sinners of every nation are going
to stand. David said, who shall ascend
into heaven? Who shall stand in His holy presence? Who? They will. John said, I
saw them. The ungodly shall not stand in
the way of judgment. Oh yes. Wait a minute now. He's dead. I saw them. John said, I saw
that great, you can't number it, of every tribe, kindred,
nation, tongue, and they weren't slinking over there, slipping
around the back alley somewhere. They weren't hiding back under
in the rear somewhere. They weren't like even the public
in the temple who would not so much as lift his eyes or come
down to the front. They were standing in front of
God's throne. Well, how do they stand there?
Oh, I'll tell you. Here's the key. And before the
Lamb. And before the Lamb. They're
complete in Him. They're holy in Him. They're
righteous in Him. They stand there because He's
standing there. That's how come they're there.
Tom? They're in Him. They're there
in Him. They're there in Him. Look back
at chapter 5. Here's the key, chapter 5, look at here. Chapter 5 said, verse 1, I saw
in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written
within, and on the back side sealed with seven seals. And
I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy
to open this book? And it loosed the seals out and
nobody, no man, in heaven, in earth, neither under the earth,
was able to open the book even to look upon. This is the purpose
of God. This book contains the will of
God, the purpose of God, the kingdom of God, the names of
God's people, of all nations, tribes, kindreds, and people
under heaven. Who's going to open it? Who's
going to bring to pass the will of God, the purpose of God, in
in opposition to evil and Satan and sin and death. And I went
much, verse 4, because no man was found worth it, no man, to
open the book or to read the book, neither to look there.
And one of the elders said, don't we, the show's not over, don't
we? Just because there's no creature
able to approach God, or take the book, or accomplish the purpose
of God, or do the will of God, or fulfill the holiness of God,
there is one! He is the Lion of the tribe of
Judah. He is the Root of David. He hath prevailed to open the
book and to loose the seven seals. Now behold, lo, in the midst
of the throne, where did he come from? Off the throne. He is God. This Lion of Judah, this Seed
of David, this Lamb of God is God Himself. He came from the
throne, in the midst of the throne. And a lamb as it had been slain,
having seven horns and seven eyes, all powerful. Horn is His
power, eyes is His omniscience. which are the seven spirits of
God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book
right out of the right hand of him that sat on the throne. Gracious
sakes alive. The Bible says man can't look on
God and live. This one did. This is the God
man. He took it right out of his hand.
He says, I'll fulfill your will, I'll fulfill your purpose, I'll
buy your people, I'll purchase the people, I'll accomplish your
kingdom, I'll go down to the earth and become a man made of
woman made under the law, I'll do all that you commanded men
to do, I'll fulfill it and I'll bring it back and hand it back
to you, the kingdom. Every one of them bought and
paid for, purchased and called and made willing in the day of
my power. I won't lose a woman. He took that book out of his
hand when he had taken the book. When he did, that's when the
four beasts and the four and twenty elders fell down before
the Lamb. Every one of them with harps
and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the
saints, and they sung a new song and said, the heart worthy to
take the book, to open the seals. Why? Because you were slain and
hath redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, tongue,
and people, and nation, and you've made us Where did I start on this? John
said, I saw that multitude standing before the throne, and I said,
how'd they get there? What are they doing there? How
come they can stand there? And he said, you've made us able. You've made us kings unto our
God, kings and priests, and we'll reign on this earth. I tried. It wasn't because they
were baptized and joined the church. They didn't stand before
the throne, stand before the throne, because they turned over
a new leaf and quit doing this and quit doing that. They didn't
stand before God's throne because they were smarter than somebody
else. They were the preacher or even a missionary. They even
left their home, traveled afar and showed that. They stood there. Look, here it is. Clothed with
white robes. What did John see? He saw their
dress. clothed with white robes and
palms in their hands. My friends, if God were to bring
an ungodly, unrighteous man into heaven before his throne, the
presence of God would annihilate him. That's right. I hear people say, well, we're
all going to heaven. I was watching, you know, I love
sports. I'm a Kentucky Wildcat. an Alabama
crimson titer. And I heard him yesterday talking
about wherever Bayer is, that he was looking with satisfaction
on what happened yesterday. Let me tell you something. And
I know we like to refer to heaven and everybody there, but let
me tell you something. If God were to allow, and you young
people listen to me, this being truth, this being scriptural,
if God were to allow me, you, or any human being into heaven,
unwashed, unsanctified, unredeemed, in our natural state, the very
presence of God would annihilate us. You see, we are mistaken
to think that God has got to put out some kind of effort to
destroy us. His very presence will destroy
us. In order to stand before God,
we have got to be made like God. Isn't that correct? How good
does a man have to be to go to heaven? As good as God. Well,
preaching, no man is as good as God. Not in himself, but that's
why Christ came. He died the just for the unjust
to bring us to God. That's what I'm saying. He died
the just for the unjust to bring us to God. He is our sanctification. He is our righteousness. He is
our redemption. Because he obeyed the law, then
I obeyed the law. Because he had no sin, I have
no sin. In him I have no sin. You see
that? Darkness is dispelled before
the sun. And evil in the presence of God
would be annihilated. Ice melts when it's put in the
fire. And my nature, and my thoughts,
and my heart cannot come into God's presence. Like this ice is melted by the
heat, I'd be just consumed away. You understand what I'm saying?
And that's the reason we talk about being in Christ, and of
Christ, and believe on Christ, and rest in Christ. That's the
sum of the whole thing. He makes us righteous. He was
made a woman under the law that we might be made the righteousness
of God in Him. Do you see that? That's the key. They stood before the throne. What was their dress? White robes. White robes. What is white? Holy.
That's why it's described in the Song of Solomon, my beloved,
it's white. White. God says, though your
sins be as scarlet, I'll make them white. Though they be red like crimson,
I'll make them white as wool. So these people stand before
Him in white robes. Now wait. All of them had the
same thing on, the same dress. Stay with me now. They were different
ages. That is, they died at different ages. They were from different
nations. They knew Christ different lengths
of times. They did different service. But they were all dressed just
alike. No difference. I see, and it's alright, I don't
have any objection, but I see the different graduations and
I see the young people out, they're graduating, they're going to
play in black robes. Here's a man who's got a maroon
stripe and a yellow stripe. You know, that means something. That means he's higher, he's
been studying longer and educated more fully and all this than
those out there. But when they stand before the
throne, there won't be any white robe trimmed in red. There won't
be any white robe trimmed in gold. There won't be any white
robe trimmed in nothing. Because you can't get above a
white robe. That's about as high as you can get. And I'll tell
you, if you've been as low as some of us know we are, to wear
that robe will be about as high as you want to get. You'd just
be thankful to have that robe. And what to have? They had palms
in their hands. What is a palm? It's a sign of victory. When
the conquering king came into town, after, into the city, after
defeating the enemies, the people on both sides of the street had
these big palm branches. Palms of victory. Isn't that
right? When our Lord rode into Jerusalem, they scattered the
palm branches. They said, Hail Hosanna to Him
that comes in the name of the Lord. And all this, you with
me? John said, I saw. What did John
say? Multitudes. Nobody can know. of every tribe, kindred, nation,
tongue under heaven. And they literally actually stood. They didn't fall and fall backward
and faint and slip out. They stood before God's throne
unashamed. Unashamed. Because they were
robed with the right robe. There was no flaw, no stain,
no spot. And they had a palm of victory.
Palms of victory. All the conquerors bring their
palms to the Lamb in the midst of the throne. And they proclaim
with joyful psalms, I overcame through the blood alone. Well, what did John hear? He
heard them say something. Verse 10, "...they all cried
with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God! Salvation is of the
Lord, which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb." They
give God all the glory. Every voice. Let me tell you something. If
a fellow or lady is going to sing that song in glory, they
learn it right down here. That's the reason I said earlier,
these old rock foundations, hymns of glory to God, are not going
to change. They'll sing the same song up
there, unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in
His own blood. That's right. Now, down here
on earth, there may be folks that don't believe in His sovereign
grace, but everybody there does. That's right. There may be religious
people down here that don't believe salvation is of the Lord, but
up there everybody knows it's of the Lord. Down here on earth
there may be people who do not believe in His electing love,
but up there there's nobody who doesn't believe in Him. They
all know unto Him who loved us. We love Him because He loved
us. That's right. What I'm preaching here is what
they're singing up there. On earth there may be people
who go about to establish their own righteousness, but up there,
not a one. Not a one. Not one in this whole
multitude speaks of what He did, what He gave, where He went,
and His success. Not a one. Every one of them
praise the Lamb. There may be many who have no
use for His perfect obedience and shed blood. On earth there
may be those who doubt the efficacy and necessity of His blood, but
not there. Not there. No, not there. Not a woman. On earth there may be many mediators. Up there there's just one. Is
that right? There's one God, there's one
mediator between God and man, and that's the man Christ Jesus.
Have it whatever way you wish to have it. But the message up
there is the message that I'm preaching right here. And what people believe, that
whole multitude, that whole multitude, And they sang a seven-fold praise. Listen. Seven-fold praise, verse
12. And they say, listen, verse 12. Blessing, seven-fold praise. Blessing to God who's the source
of all blessing. Glory to God whose name is glory. the glory
of his divine attributes, especially in his goodness and love. Wisdom? He's all wisdom. Wisdom is seen
in his redemptive work. Thanksgiving? For all that he
does and gives in his free grace. Honor? It's due unto him, prophet,
priest, and king. Father? Power? He chose us, He redeemed us,
He called us, He kept us by His power. Brought us out of the
grave by His power. And might, that is strength,
rock of ages cleft for me. Let me hide myself in thee. Amen. Unto God be all this sevenfold
praise forever and ever. What does amen mean? Young people,
what does amen mean? When somebody says amen, what
does that mean? So be it. So be it. When these men, when
somebody is preaching up here and God is on the throne, I say,
Amen. So be it. So be it. Who else belongs there? So be
it. And one of the elders, let me
close this now, what John saw, what John heard, and what John
learned. What did he learn? Well, he learned
something about their past and something about their future.
This great multitude. All dressed alike. All in the
likeness of Christ. All before the throne. They gave
God all the glory for what they were and what they had. What they were and what they
had. What John learned. One of the elders said to me, Verse 13, who are these who will
raid in these white roads? Who are these? Who are these
people from all over? This is the biggest crowd ever
assembled. Biggest crowd ever assembled
anywhere. Who are they? And where did they
come from? And he said, you know. And he
said, yeah, I know. Everybody knows this. Who knows God? Who knows the gospel? Their past
and their future. What is their past? Well, let
me tell you something. All of us came from different
backgrounds. All of us have a different history,
a different life story. It would be interesting for one
of these times to go over this whole congregation and ask people
to stand and give their history. Where they were born and when
and to whom. their childhood, how they grew up in this place
or that place, where they went to school, what work they do.
This is all interesting. There's a lot of different things
about it. But these people have two things in common, every blessed
one of them. Every single one of them have
two things in common. Number one, verse 14, they washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. That's for sure. Every single one of them. You
say, what about those babies you were talking about a while
ago? They're God's elect. And they have a new nature in Christ,
and they've been redeemed by Christ. His blood was shed for
them, and they're washed in the blood of the Lamb, and they know
it. And you and me and everybody, these people have one thing happened
in their past. They were washed in the blood
of the Lamb. Now, I know preachers have different
All these preachers all over the world, they have people raise
their hand, they have them come down to the front, they have
them sign cards, they baptize you, all these things. Salvation
is by the blood of Christ. That's how all of them were saved. Their roads were washed white
in the blood of the Lamb. Whether it happened in a barn
somewhere, or it happened on the road somewhere, or it happened
in a home somewhere, it doesn't matter. It's between you and
God. It's not between you and me and God. I'm no mediator.
It's between you and God. If you can ever come to that
place, Lord, I am a sinner and I know it. I was born a sinner.
I find rebellion in my heart and soul and mind. I'm not like
you. I want to be. I want to be a
child of God. I want to be saved. I want my
sins forgiven. I want my name written in the
Book of Life. I want to have some kind of rest
and hope and peace of life eternal. Trust Him! You don't have to
sin for a soul winner. Preacher. He'll just mess you
up. Most of them will. Look to Christ. Believe on Christ. But I don't understand all of
it. I don't either. But I will someday. I understand
some things. I understand I'm a sinner. I
understand I'm lost. I understand I can't save myself.
I understand God's holy. I understand I'm going to die.
I understand I've got to stand before God even in judgment or
acceptance. And there's no use you giving
me a bunch of rules to live by. It's just like New Year's resolutions. I try. I gum it up before the
New Year is a day old. But my Lord, He delights to show mercy. You
rest in Him and trust in Him and believe in Him. Don't believe
in me, believe in Him. I've got to believe in Him too.
Come to Christ. They washed their robes and bathed
them white. What's the next thing about them?
They all came out of great tribulation. That's not THE great tribulation. That's tribulation. In other
words, all these folks up there, and all these folks right here,
they all got different histories, but they all washed their robes
and made them white in the blood. And everybody here has come through
trouble and trial and sorrow.

About Henry Mahan

Henry T. Mahan was born in Birmingham, Alabama in August 1926. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served as a signalman on an L.S.T. in the Pacific during World War II. In 1946, he married his wife Doris, and the Lord blessed them with four children.

At the age of 21, he entered the pastoral ministry and gained broad experience as a pastor, teacher, conference speaker, and evangelist. In 1950, through the preaching of evangelist Rolfe Barnard, God was pleased to establish Henry in sovereign free grace teaching. At that time, he was serving as an assistant pastor at Pollard Baptist Church (off of Blackburn ave.) in Ashland, Kentucky.

In 1955, Thirteenth Street Baptist Church was formed in Ashland, Kentucky, and Henry was called to be its pastor. He faithfully served that congregation for more than 50 years, continuing in the same message throughout his ministry. His preaching was centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified, in full accord with the Scriptures. He consistently proclaimed God’s sovereign purpose in salvation and the glory of Christ in redeeming sinners through His blood and righteousness.

Henry T. Mahan also traveled widely, preaching in conferences and churches across the United States and beyond. His ministry was marked by a clear and unwavering emphasis on Christ, not the preacher, but the One preached. Those who heard him recognized that his sermons honored the Savior and exalted the name of the Lord Jesus Christ above all.

Henry T. Mahan served as pastor and teacher of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland, Kentucky for over half a century. His life and ministry were devoted to proclaiming the sovereign grace of God and directing sinners to the finished work of Christ. He entered into the presence of the Lord in 2019, leaving behind a lasting testimony to the gospel he faithfully preached.
