How are we made children of God?

According to Ephesians 1:5, we have been predestined to adoption as children by Jesus Christ to Himself. This means that our status as children of God is not of our own doing, but is a result of God's choice and action in our lives. We do not become children of God through works or personal merit, but by grace alone, through faith in Christ.
