How can we purify ourselves according to Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

We purify ourselves by confessing sins, believing the Gospel, and coming humbly before God (James 4:8).

Scripture outlines several key steps for believers in the process of purification. James 4:8 instructs us to 'draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleans your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.' This verse encapsulates that purification involves both an inward and outward action. The process begins with confession of sin, acknowledging our transgressions before God, which is complemented by a heartfelt belief in the Gospel that assures us of His redemptive work. Humility before God then allows us to receive His grace, fully recognizing that our true cleansing comes from Him. Moreover, as we believe the Gospel, we find that it continually cleanses and strengthens us in our walk of faith.
