How do we know Christ's atonement is true?

Answered in 12 sources

Christ's atonement is confirmed by scripture, where He is depicted as the ultimate sacrifice, fulfilling the requirements of the Law and providing total reconciliation with God.

The theological basis for affirming Christ's atonement stems from both Old Testament foreshadowing and New Testament fulfillment. Hebrews 9 highlights that Christ entered the heavenly Holy of Holies, offering His own blood as the perfect sacrifice. Unlike the repeated offerings of Old Testament priests, Christ's sacrifice was once and for all, effectively reconciling sinners to God (Romans 5:10). The completeness of this atonement assures us that it secures forgiveness for both Old Testament believers, who looked forward to the coming Messiah, and New Testament believers, who look back at His finished work on the cross.
