How do we know Christ's death was for us?

Answered in 3 sources

Christ's substitution for sinners is assured for those who believe in Him; His death satisfies God's justice fully.

The assurance that Christ's death was for us is intrinsically linked to our belief in Him. As asserted in Romans 5:6, ‘For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.’ This emphasizes that Christ died not for the righteous but for sinners who acknowledge their guilt. Moreover, as articulated in the sermon, if we genuinely believe and confess our sins, we can rest assured that He speaks to our hearts, declaring us free. God’s justice demands satisfaction, and this was perfectly achieved in Christ’s sacrifice. John Bunyan's allegory in 'Pilgrim's Progress' illustrates how faith in Christ leads to the release from burdens of sin, symbolizing the internal assurance believers experience upon trusting Him.
