How do we know faith in Christ is genuine?

Answered in 8 sources

Genuine faith is a heart faith that involves not just intellectual assent but deep affection and reliance on Christ.

Genuine faith is distinguished from mere intellectual understanding by its depth and affection. In Romans 10:9-10, the significance of believing in the heart and confessing Christ is presented as central to salvation. Heart faith involves a transformation of the affections, not just an acceptance of facts about Jesus. As expressed in the sermon, even demons believe intellectually (James 2:19), yet they lack the transformative experience that comes from a heart devoted to Christ. Therefore, real faith produces love for God and a desire for His glory, reflecting true belief that goes beyond mere knowledge.
