How do we know God is near during difficult times?

Answered in 1 source

God’s nearness during trials is assured in Scripture, as He promises to be with His people even in their darkest moments.

Though it may often feel like God is distant in times of trial, Scripture reassures believers of His constant presence. For instance, in Isaiah 41:10, God commands us not to fear because He is with us, promising to strengthen and help us. This reflects the reality that God is intimately involved in our lives, especially during difficult periods. The assurance that He never leaves us nor forsakes us is echoed in Hebrews 13:5. Furthermore, in moments of pain and suffering, even when we feel alone, God assures us through His Word and the work of the Holy Spirit that He is near and attentive to our cries for help. We are reminded in Psalm 34:18 that 'The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.' This demonstrates God’s comforting presence amidst tribulations.
