How do we know God's love is free?

Answered in 1 source

God's love is free because it is given without any merit or cost to us, as He loves us despite our sinful nature.

The concept of God's love being free is beautifully articulated in Hosea 14, where it says, 'I will love them freely, for mine anger is turned away from him.' This underscores the reality that God's love and grace are not based on what we can offer but are entirely gifts from Him. We are bankrupt in our spiritual condition, unable to pay for our healing or favor with God. Yet, He offers His love freely, inviting us to partake in His goodness without price, reminding us of Isaiah 55:1, which states, 'Come ye, buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.' This is the heart of the gospel message, proclaiming that God's love is given to unworthy sinners as an act of His sovereign grace.
