How do we know good works do not save us?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture clearly states that salvation is a gift of grace, not a result of our works, to prevent anyone from boasting.

The assurance that good works do not save us is rooted firmly in the biblical doctrine of justification by faith alone. In Ephesians 2:9, the apostle Paul emphasizes that salvation is not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Additionally, Romans 4:4 states that for the one who works, their wages are counted as a debt rather than grace. Thus, if salvation could be earned through good works, it would negate the grace of God. Believers must understand that good works are not the means of salvation but the fruit that results from genuine faith in Christ. They are the evidence of a transformed life and a heart that has been changed by God’s grace.
