How do we know grace is irresistible?

Answered in 5 sources

Grace is irresistible because it is an effectual work of God that changes the hearts of His chosen, leading them to faith in Christ.

Irresistible grace refers to the divine influence that effectively leads the elect to accept the gospel and come to Christ. This theology is supported by scripture such as Psalm 110, which states, 'I will make them willing in the day of my power.' God's grace is not merely an invitation that can be refused but a powerful, transforming work that enables sinners to turn to Him. The assurance of irresistible grace also reflects the nature of God’s sovereignty; when He chooses to save, He ensures that His will is accomplished. Therefore, the believer's coming to Christ is not due to their own decision but is the result of God's gracious intervention in their lives.
