How do we know if we have the Holy Spirit?

Answered in 7 sources

We can know we have the Holy Spirit if we genuinely confess Jesus as Lord and believe in His successful work of salvation.

According to 1 Corinthians 12:3, having the Holy Spirit is evidenced by one's confession that Jesus is Lord. This isn't merely verbal acknowledgment; it reflects a deep-seated belief in the efficacy of Christ's work. If someone can confidently say Jesus is Lord and believe that His atoning work guarantees salvation for all whom He represents, this is a strong indicator of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Thus, self-examination of one’s belief in Christ's lordship and His redemptive work is vital in determining if one possesses the Holy Spirit.
