How do we know Jesus' necessity to suffer is true?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus' suffering is necessary for atonement, as outlined in Mark 8:31 and throughout scripture.

In Mark 8:31, Jesus begins to teach His disciples that 'the Son of Man must suffer many things.' This 'must' underscores the necessity of His suffering and death for our sins. In historic Reformed theology, we understand that His suffering was not arbitrary; it was ordained by God to fulfill the covenant of redemption. He took upon Himself our sins, making atonement through His sacrifice. As stated in Hebrews 9:22, 'without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.' Thus, His suffering is essential for the salvation of His people.
