How do we know self is nothing before God?

Answered in 1 source

We find our true nothingness before God when we encounter His holiness, recognizing that we are sinners completely reliant on His grace.

The recognition of our own nothingness in the sight of God is a profound aspect of the Christian faith. Jacob, when wrestling with God, realized he was a 'supplanter'—a deceiver, which is a reflection of human sinfulness. In God's presence, as one truly sees the holiness and greatness of God, they also come to understand their utter inability and sinful nature (Psalm 39:5-6). Our inherent worthlessness is not mere self-deprecation, but a crucial understanding that all good comes from God alone, and without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). This recognition leads to humility and dependence, which are essential for true faith.
