How do we know that humanity is incapable of saving itself?

Answered in 1 source

Humanity is described as spiritually dead and unable to seek God on its own.

The Bible clearly reveals that all humanity is spiritually incapacitated due to sin, as articulated in Ephesians 2:1-3. We are dead in our trespasses and sins, and this state of spiritual deadness means that no one can seek God or do any good by their own efforts. Isaiah 64:6 further emphasizes that all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. The paralytic's inability to walk not only illustrates physical incapacity but serves as a metaphor for spiritual helplessness in our quest for salvation. Therefore, faith and repentance must be supplied by God Himself, as expressed in John 6:44, where Jesus states that no one can come to Him unless the Father draws them.
