How do we know that Jesus' sacrifice was for our sins?

Answered in 3 sources

The sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice is affirmed in Scripture, which indicates that He bore our sins and satisfied divine justice.

The assurance of Jesus' sacrifice being for our sins is rooted in the biblical doctrine of substitutionary atonement. Scripture makes clear that Christ took upon Himself the sin of the world and endured the wrath of God on our behalf (1 Peter 2:24). This fulfillment of divine justice allows believers to stand justified without fear of condemnation (Romans 8:1). When Jesus prayed in the garden for this cup to pass, He was affirming His role as the substitute who would fulfill the requirements laid out from eternity for our redemption.
