How do we know that Jesus' suffering was voluntary?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus' suffering was voluntary as He chose to serve humbly, unlike Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers.

The difference between Joseph's experience and that of Christ illustrates the voluntary nature of Jesus’ suffering. While Joseph was made a servant through betrayal, Jesus willingly took on the role of a servant, as echoed in Philippians 2, where He did not grasp His equality with God but emptied Himself. This self-emptying was a conscious act of love and obedience to the Father, highlighting Christ’s purpose in the eternal covenant of grace. His choice to embrace suffering for our sake demonstrates His love and commitment to redeem humanity.
