How do we know that Jesus wept over sin?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus wept not only because of loss but because of the sin and unbelief that leads to death.

In the account of Lazarus, as narrated in John 11, we see Jesus deeply troubled and moved to tears. His weeping illustrates His compassion and sorrow over the effects of sin—death and the unbelief of those around Him. Jesus understood that sin leads to spiritual death, and His reaction signifies both His empathy for humanity and a profound acknowledgment of sin’s devastating impact. This is confirmed by His words and actions, which demonstrate that His mission was to combat the very separation caused by sin.
