How do we know that the righteousness of Christ is our basis for acceptance?

Answered in 1 source

The righteousness of Christ is the foundation of our acceptance before God, as we cannot rely on our own works for salvation.

In historic Reformed theology, it is emphasized that true Christians look to the merit and righteousness of Christ as the basis for their acceptance with God. Romans 3:22 declares that the righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Important to understand is that our efforts or moral achievements cannot contribute to our standing before God. Instead, we rely solely on Christ's perfect life, His death and resurrection, which earns for us the forgiveness of sins and right standing before the Father. Philippians 3:8-9 beautifully articulates this, as Paul counts all things as loss for the excellency of knowing Christ and seeks to be found in Him, not having a righteousness of his own but that which comes through faith.
