How do we know the importance of truthfulness in communication?

Answered in 1 source

Truthfulness is essential in communication as it reflects God’s character and builds trust among believers.

Truthfulness in communication is vital for Christians as it aligns with the nature of God, who is Himself the embodiment of truth. In James 5:12, we are instructed to let our 'Yes' be yes and our 'No' be no. This means that our general language should be free from deception and insincerity. When we speak truthfully, we not only reflect God's holiness but also foster relationships built on trust. The act of swearing oaths can become problematic when it stems from a habit of dishonesty; therefore, maintaining integrity in our words negates the need for oaths altogether. The Apostle Paul states this clearly when he mentions that his words should be consistently affirmative (2 Corinthians 1:18-19).
