How do we know we have eternal life according to the Bible?

Answered in 4 sources

We know we have eternal life by believing in the name of the Son of God and through the assurance given by the Holy Spirit.

The assurance of eternal life is deeply rooted in our belief in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As stated in 1 John 5:13, John writes to those who believe in Him, confirming that they may know they have eternal life. This knowledge comes not from our works but from the confidence that God has provided through His grace. The Holy Spirit bears witness in our hearts, affirming our status as God's children and reminding us of the promises that we have in Christ, assuring us that our faith is secured in His finished work (Ephesians 1:13-14). Therefore, our assurance of eternal life is a combination of belief, the testimony of scripture, and the inward work of the Holy Spirit.
