How does sin affect our speech according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Sin contaminates our speech, leading to words that can harm others and undermine our witness.

The Bible articulates that sin has a profound impact on our speech, as exemplified in James 3:6-8, where the tongue is likened to a restless evil full of deadly poison. This reflects the idea that our words can be vessels of wickedness, propagating falsehoods and causing division. Moreover, the uncontrolled tongue reveals the underlying condition of our hearts, as out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Paul encourages believers to let their speech be gracious and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6), proving that as Christians, our speech should reflect our transformed nature and bear witness to God's grace rather than our sinful inclinations.
