What can we learn from the distinction between authorship and purposing of sin?

Answered in 1 source

This distinction clarifies that God does not create sin but allows it in His sovereign plan.

The difference between 'authorship' and 'purposing' is foundational for understanding sin in Reformed theology. God is not the author of sin—He does not create it or infuse it into His creatures. Instead, He purposed for sin to come into being in His divine plan. This distinction illustrates that while God has foreknowledge of sin and willed its allowance for the sake of His greater glory and redemptive plan, He remains completely free of any moral culpability associated with it. Hence, sin arises from human choice, underscoring individual accountability, while God’s sovereignty reigns in guiding all things toward His ultimate purpose.
