What does it mean to be justified before God?

Answered in 17 sources

Being justified before God means being declared not guilty and declared righteous based on Christ's imputed righteousness (Romans 5:1).

Justification is a legal term that describes the act of God declaring a sinner not guilty and counting them as righteous. According to Romans 5:1, we are justified by faith, which means that through belief in Jesus Christ and His atoning work, we are acquitted from the penalty of our sins. This justification is permanent and unalterable because it is based on Christ's righteousness being credited to us, not on our performance. Therefore, every believer can rest assured of their standing before God, as they are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, the perfect fulfillment of the law.
