What does the Bible say about being dead in sin?

Answered in 18 sources

The Bible teaches that unconverted men are spiritually dead in their sins, lacking the life of God and being unable to perform any acts acceptable to Him.

According to Ephesians 2:1, unconverted individuals are described as being dead in their trespasses and sins, emphasizing a total removal of spiritual life. This state of spiritual death parallels natural death, where a dead person cannot act or perceive; similarly, those dead in sin are utterly incapable of holy obedience unless quickened by the Holy Spirit. Just as a body devoid of the soul cannot function, a soul separated from God's grace is incapable of spiritual acts.
