What does the Bible say about being righteous before God?

Biblical righteousness is not something we achieve through our own works, but is imparted to us through our union with Christ. As found in 2 Corinthians 5:21, 'For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.' This emphasizes that our righteousness is entirely based on the perfect obedience and atoning sacrifice of Jesus. We cannot attain righteousness on our own, as Romans 3:10 points out, 'There is none righteous, no, not one.'
