What does the Bible say about generosity?

Answered in 13 sources

The Bible teaches that generosity is an expression of love and dependence on God, as seen in the example of Barnabas in Acts.

In Acts 4:36-37, we see Barnabas, who sold his land and generously laid the proceeds at the apostles' feet. This act is indicative of true generosity that arises from love, not obligation. Barnabas was moved by the grace of the gospel to give up everything, demonstrating his complete dependence on Christ. The contrast with Ananias highlights the difference between giving out of love and seeking to buy favor through appearances. True generosity flows from a heart transformed by the gospel, and it is an encouragement to other believers to trust God with all that they have.
