What does the Bible say about pride in success?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible cautions against pride and self-satisfaction, especially when successful; it reminds us that true humility is essential.

In Luke 10:17-20, the seventy disciples returned with joy over their successes, proclaiming that even demons were subject to them through Jesus' name. However, Jesus cautioned them against pride and undue exultation in their accomplishments, reminding them that their true joy should come from their names being written in heaven. This biblical account emphasizes that during times of success, Christians face the danger of becoming self-satisfied and prideful, thus losing sight of their reliance on God's grace.

As Paul noted in 1 Timothy 3:6, leaders in the Church must not be novices, lest they become proud and fall into condemnation. This demonstrates the importance of humility when experiencing God's blessings. True maturity involves recognizing that while success in ministry is desirable, it should never eclipse the need for dependence on God's grace, as pride can severely endanger a soul's spiritual well-being.
