What does the Bible say about self-examination in faith?

Answered in 5 sources

Self-examination is about assessing whether one truly rests in Jesus Christ for salvation, rather than measuring up by personal standards.

The Bible encourages believers to examine themselves to ensure they are in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). This examination is not about measuring one's personal righteousness but about recognizing whether one is resting solely in Christ for salvation. As the preacher pointed out, the true question is whether we are trusting Jesus for all our righteousness, as we inevitably fall short on our own. Self-examination should lead us to a deeper assurance in Christ’s sufficiency, especially when we recognize our need for mercy.
