What does the Bible say about sinless perfection?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that sinless perfection in this life is an illusion; even the Apostle John asserts that if we claim we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.

The concept of sinless perfection is criticized in Scripture, particularly in 1 John 1, where it is asserted that claiming to be without sin makes one a liar (1 John 1:8, 10). John emphasizes that all humans continue to struggle with sin and that this struggle is a part of the Christian experience. Rather than attaining total perfection, believers are to confess their sins and rely on the cleansing power of Christ's blood (1 John 1:7). This understanding is rooted in the Reformed perspective, which maintains that while we grow in holiness, full sanctification occurs only in the presence of God after death. Thus, the pursuit of sinless perfection during our earthly lives is a delusion.
