What does the Bible say about the call of God?

Answered in 16 sources

The Bible describes the call of God as both a general call to all people and an effectual call to the elect, ensuring that those whom God calls will come to Him.

The call of God, as outlined in Romans 8:30, involves two primary types: a general call that goes out to all mankind and an effectual call that is specific to God's elect. The general call, mentioned throughout Scripture, invites all to respond to the gospel, as seen in Romans 1 where all are without excuse because of the revelation in creation. However, most reject this general call. In contrast, the effectual call is a powerful invitation that not only calls but guarantees a response from those whom God has predestined. When God calls His chosen, they will inevitably come to faith in Christ, transcending their natural resistance to Him.
