What does the Bible say about the church?

Answered in 6 sources

The Bible teaches that the church is the body of Christ, established and maintained by Him, not merely an organization.

The church is described as the body of Christ in Scripture, fundamentally organized by the Spirit of God rather than by mere human efforts. Various passages indicate that churches are given order by the Spirit, but they do not stand on organizational structures. Christ Himself declared, 'I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it' (Matthew 16:18). This shows that a true church must be founded in Jesus Christ and sustained by Him. Additionally, we see historical examples from the seven churches mentioned in Revelation, which highlight that all churches face challenges and have finite lifespans. Their existence relies on their adherence to Christ’s foundational teachings and the active faith of their members.
