What does the Bible say about the emptiness of the creature?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that apart from God, all earthly pursuits lead to emptiness and dissatisfaction.

The Bible consistently highlights the futility of pursuing things outside of God. Ecclesiastes 1:2 proclaims, 'Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.’ This concept emphasizes that worldly pleasures and achievements ultimately leave one feeling unfulfilled. John Newton captures this theme by expressing that true satisfaction comes only from God and that other avenues lead to a 'vanity in science' and 'an emptiness in creatures.' When we recognize our desires that can only be satisfied by God, we begin to understand the depth of our need for Him.
