What does the Bible say about the existence of evil?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that all things, including evil, exist by God's sovereign decree and serve His purpose.

The presence of evil in the world is a perplexing issue, but Scripture reassures us that all things, including evil, are under God's absolute control. Isaiah 45:5-7 declares that God creates both light and darkness, peace and evil. This serves to show that nothing happens outside of His divine will. Additionally, Romans 11:33 highlights the depths of God's wisdom and knowledge, which surpass human understanding. Thus, the existence of evil is neither an accident nor beyond God's control; rather, it serves His inscrutable purposes, ultimately contributing to His glory and the good of His elect.
