What does the Bible say about the necessity of a Savior?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that we need a Savior because we are incapable of fulfilling the law perfectly and inheriting eternal life on our own.

According to Luke 10, the primary lesson of the parable of the Good Samaritan is the necessity of a Savior. This necessity arises from our inability to keep the law perfectly, as demonstrated by the lawyer's misguided question: 'What must I do to inherit eternal life?' The reality is, an inheritance cannot be earned through works; it must be received as a gift. Our works can never satisfy the perfect requirements of God's law. In Romans 11, we are reminded that salvation is by grace alone and not by works. Thus, we need Christ, who fulfilled all the law's requirements on our behalf, to be our Savior and provide reconciliation with God.
