What does the Bible say about the purpose of God's law?

Answered in 10 sources

The purpose of God's law is to reveal our sinfulness and make us guilty before Him, leading us to seek grace in Christ.

The Bible teaches that the law, particularly the Ten Commandments, serves to stop every mouth and make all the world guilty before God (Romans 3:19). It is given to expose our inability to attain righteousness through our own efforts, showing us that we are indeed lost in our sin and need a Savior. The law cannot save; its role is to prepare us for grace by demonstrating our need for Christ. When we are made guilty in our conscience, we become aware of our need for God's mercy and grace, pushing us toward faith in Christ alone for salvation.
